Neither is a Fable substitute in every respect: the former is the closer fit for spell-filled open-world adventure, while the latter leans into companions, relationships, and consequential decisions.
As of October 4, 2026, the US PlayStation Store lists the new Fable for PS5 with a release date of February 23, 2027. The date may change, so check the live PlayStation Store listing before making plans. An earlier PlayStation Blog announcement gave an Autumn 2026 window.

What makes a PS5 game feel like Fable?
Fable brings together open-world exploration, action combat, fantasy, player expression, and a playful comic tone. Its official PlayStation description calls it an open-world action RPG where choices shape the journey, and highlights melee, ranged, and magical combat alongside relationships with villagers, reputation, and optional activities such as buying a home or running a shop. The January 2026 announcement also emphasized NPC routines and evolving opinions, dry British wit, and what it called “playful moral chaos.”
That combination is unusually specific. The two recommendations below match different parts of it; neither game’s official feature description establishes Fable’s particular mix of British humor and reputation-driven village life.

Hogwarts Legacy: choose it for magical open-world exploration
Hogwarts Legacy is the clearest pick if you want to roam a colorful fantasy setting, learn spells, and encounter magical creatures. Its PS5 edition is a single-player open-world action RPG set in the Wizarding World. You explore Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest, and the surrounding areas; customize your character; learn spells; brew potions; and meet magical beasts. PlayStation’s description says players ultimately decide the fate of the wizarding world.
The overlap with Fable is primarily the sense of exploring a magical world and shaping a fantasy character—not an established match for Fable’s morality or reputation systems. The PS5 edition was released on February 10, 2023. PlayStation lists offline play as enabled. Dragon Age: The Veilguard: choose it for companions and consequential choices
If the appeal of Fable for you is making decisions and forming relationships, Dragon Age: The Veilguard offers a stronger companion-focused alternative. This single-player fantasy RPG features seven companions with their own stories. You can befriend and romance them, choose who joins battles, and make decisions that affect companion development and the fate of Thedas.

For more exact expectations, PlayStation describes the upcoming Fable as an open-world action RPG where choices shape the journey. Game director Ralph Fulton said that small actions could become stories townsfolk “remember, judge, and gossip about.” Neither recommendation’s cited official description promises that same village-reputation loop or Fable’s dry British wit.
