The same summary reports that some defenders regard the game as deliberate parody. Those are competing interpretations, not a settled finding that the game is inherently racist or harmless.

Steam currently shows 80% positive English reviews from 2,732 reviews. That is a live storefront snapshot from 2026, not a permanent quality score, a safety certification or a measurement of representation. The practical question is therefore not whether one label fits everyone, but which parts of the experience you want to keep and which you want to remove.
What “safer alternative” should mean
There is no independent safety rating, demographic study or authoritative industry comparison that ranks these games against one another. “Safer” has to be defined by the concern you are trying to avoid.
- Less gang-stereotype exposure: choose a game whose central conflict is not rival gangs in a real U.S. city.

Why it matches the parts of Hood Warfare 2 you may enjoy
Steam describes PAYDAY 2 as an “action-packed, four-player co-op shooter.” Its listed tags include co-op, FPS, heist, multiplayer, online co-op, stealth, gun customization, tactical, PvE and single-player. That gives it the strongest overlap with a player who mainly wants first-person gunplay, teamwork, loadout decisions and repeatable missions.
Instead of rival gangs fighting for territory, the original PAYDAY crew carries out a crime spree in Washington, D.C. The change matters if your objection is the use of gang stereotypes or a real American city as the backdrop for parody. Heists also provide an objective structure: a team can plan, enter quietly, adapt when an alarm sounds and coordinate an escape. That is a different fantasy from a match built around controlling a neighborhood or mall.
What it does not solve
PAYDAY 2 is not a violence-free option. Firearms, robbery and criminal role-play remain the core of the game. If your concern is guns, criminal behavior or online pressure rather than the specific Chicago gang framing, PAYDAY 2 may not feel safer. Its four-player structure also puts you in communication with other players unless you choose solo or controlled sessions.

Forza Horizon 5 preserves several broad reasons people enjoy a chaotic multiplayer game: a large social world, competition, progression, challenges and customization. Steam describes an open-world driving experience set in Mexico with online PvP, online co-op, cross-platform multiplayer, a campaign and social activities. You can compete with friends, pursue goals at your own pace and build a personal vehicle collection instead of a firearm loadout.
What changes completely
This is not an FPS and does not provide gunplay, bot firefights or crime missions. The central activity is racing and driving. Its lower-violence profile comes from removing firearms and the gang-war framing, not from recreating Hood Warfare 2’s combat in another form. Players who specifically want first-person shooting should select PAYDAY 2 instead.

- Choose Forza Horizon 5 when you want social competition without firearms.

Those features make it thematically adjacent to Hood Warfare 2, but similarity is not evidence of a safer presentation.
Do not treat HOOD WAR as an official Hood Warfare 2 version, sequel or approved alternative. When it might fit
Consider it only if you want to explore a separate Roblox experience with friends and are prepared to review its current settings together. Use private-server controls where available, keep voice chat off for players who do not need it, and use Roblox’s account, privacy and reporting tools. Multiplayer, chat and moderation: practical safeguards
Changing games does not automatically remove online risks. Hood Warfare 2 lists online PvP and in-game chat. HOOD WAR explicitly mentions voice chat. PAYDAY 2 and Forza Horizon 5 both support online multiplayer, so the people you meet and the communication tools available remain relevant.
Before joining a public session
- Read the current game and platform privacy menus, including who can invite you, message you or join your session.
- Decide whether voice chat is necessary. Disable it or use a friends-only channel if the game and platform allow that.
- Learn the mute, block and report commands before a match starts.

If your favorite part is the gunplay
Start with PAYDAY 2. Build a small group, decide whether you prefer stealth or loud missions, and treat loadout customization as the replacement for Hood Warfare 2’s weapon-tuning loop. Expect the pacing to be objective-driven rather than a sequence of territory matches.

If your favorite part is the social world
Start with Forza Horizon 5. Invite the same friends, set shared driving or challenge goals and use its online PvP or co-op activities to preserve the group routine. The substitute is competition and exploration, not firefights.
If your favorite part is the setting’s street aesthetic
Be cautious with thematically similar games such as HOOD WAR. Similar imagery can reproduce the concern that led you to look for an alternative. Review the current description, screenshots, chat options and reporting tools with your group before deciding.
