King of Dragon Pass is the closest game to Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind: it uses the same Glorantha setting and asks you to keep a clan alive through resource shortages, diplomacy, mythic decisions and long-running consequences. For a direct continuation, play Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out. If you want to create your own Gloranthan stories around a table, choose RuneQuest, a collaborative tabletop role-playing game rather than a solo strategy title.
These recommendations fit because they share the five traits that make Six Ages distinctive: community management, branching narrative choices, gods and spirits that affect practical decisions, a campaign that can span generations, and stories that emerge from repeated small judgments rather than one linear plot.

What makes Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind unusual?
Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind calls itself a “storybook strategy game” set in Glorantha, the world also used by King of Dragon Pass. It combines interactive fiction with turn-based management: you decide how a clan uses land, handles neighbors, interprets religious obligations and responds to dangers, then deal with consequences that may not become visible for decades.
The Steam listing describes more than 400 interactive story scenes. Those scenes are not isolated short stories; they accumulate into a multi-generational account of survival and inter-clan alliances. You design a clan, improve pastures, explore, trade, raid, negotiate with other communities and send expeditions into the Otherworld. Relations with rival gods and their followers can determine whether an apparently sensible policy succeeds, fails or creates a problem for a later generation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Campaigns support multiple difficulty levels and multiple endings. That combination matters when choosing an alternative: a game can resemble the setting but still feel wrong if it lacks the pressure of managing a community, or it can offer excellent branching stories without the religious and economic systems that make each decision costly.
The App Store describes the game as combining interactive stories and turn-based strategy. It lists a June 28, 2018 launch, while the Steam listing gives October 17, 2019 as its release date for that platform. Those are platform-specific dates, not contradictory claims about two different games.
How the closest alternatives compare
| Game | Glorantha continuity | Community or clan management | Branching narrative | Myth, gods and spirits | Format | Best reason to choose it |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| King of Dragon Pass | Same world; spiritual predecessor | Clan and tribe leadership | High; event-driven and open-ended | Central to decisions | Solo video game | Closest overall match |
| Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out | Direct continuation in a later era | Continues the series’ community focus | High; same choice-led approach | Gloranthan mythology remains central | Solo video game | Obvious next game after the first |
| RuneQuest | Glorantha tabletop setting | Party and settlement decisions are player-created | Created collaboratively rather than selected from authored scenes | Built into character beliefs and the setting | Tabletop role-playing | Make your own mythic campaign with a group |
The comparison is about structure and experience, not a claim that these products have identical rules. King of Dragon Pass offers the nearest mechanical and thematic fit; Six Ages 2 preserves the particular storytelling formula; RuneQuest changes the medium so that players and a game master author the events together.

1. King of Dragon Pass: the closest overall match
Why it feels familiar
The official Steam description identifies Six Ages as the spiritual successor to the acclaimed King of Dragon Pass. Both games place you in Glorantha and make clan leadership the core activity. You are not simply improving an individual hero. You are balancing food, land, labor, reputation, alliances and religious expectations for a whole community.

That shared foundation makes this the strongest recommendation for someone who wants the same kind of decision pressure. A pasture decision can affect supplies; a diplomatic gesture can alter a relationship; a raid may solve an immediate shortage while creating a feud. The important question is rarely “Which combat unit wins?” It is “What can our people afford, what do our traditions require, and what risk can we leave to the next generation?”
Where it differs
King of Dragon Pass is an earlier game, so its presentation and interface should be approached as part of its design rather than expected to match Six Ages feature for feature. The recommendation is based on the shared setting, clan-and-tribe management, mythic decision-making and open-ended campaign structure described by the official listing.
Choose it when you want to understand the lineage behind Six Ages, or when you prefer a campaign whose identity emerges from repeated council decisions rather than a conventional mission map. It is especially suitable for players who enjoy recording which elders, treaties and grudges shaped their settlement over time.

- Players who want the nearest possible substitute rather than a different genre.
- Readers most interested in clan politics, resource pressure and diplomacy.
- Anyone who enjoys campaigns that can develop differently through event choices instead of following a fixed sequence.
2. Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out: the direct continuation
Why it is the safest follow-up
The App Store presents Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out as the continuation to play after completing Ride Like the Wind. It keeps the same developers’ choice-driven approach and returns to Gloranthan mythology, so you do not need to trade away the combination of interactive stories and turn-based strategy that defined the first game.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
This is the right recommendation when your question is really “What should I play after Six Ages?” rather than “What other strategy genres might I enjoy?” The later-era setting gives the series room to move forward while preserving its interest in collective survival, religious obligations and decisions whose results unfold over time.
What to expect from the change in era
A continuation is not merely a new set of interchangeable events. A later historical period changes the context in which a clan interprets danger, chooses allies and understands the gods. The exact campaign scope and scene count are not specified in the cited App Store description, so it is more accurate to recommend the sequel for continuity of setting and design philosophy than to promise a particular number of scenarios or endings.
Who should choose it?
- Players who have finished the first game and want another Gloranthan campaign.
- People who value authored interactive scenes more than an entirely player-invented story.
- Anyone who wants the same balance of management, exploration, diplomacy and myth without learning a different rules system.
3. RuneQuest: a tabletop route into Glorantha
What changes when the story moves to the table?
RuneQuest is a tabletop role-playing route into Glorantha, not a computer strategy game. Instead of selecting from a finite library of authored encounters, a group creates characters, pursues goals and responds to situations moderated by a game master. The result can be more personal and improvisational, but it requires other people, preparation and a willingness to make decisions without a visible campaign interface.
This format is a strong fit for the mythic side of Six Ages. Players can decide what their characters believe, how they honor a god, which clan obligations they accept and what price they will pay for supernatural help. A group can focus on a single settlement, a traveling band or a wider political struggle, depending on the campaign the participants want to build.

What it does not replace
RuneQuest does not reproduce the first game’s resource-management screen, turn structure or built-in multi-generational timeline. Its depth comes from conversation and player authorship rather than from an event engine. If you mainly want to optimize pasture, trade and raiding choices alone, this is a change of activity, not a direct substitute.
Edition and purchasing qualification
The cited Steam description names RuneQuest as one of the rich narrative experiences set in Glorantha. A current core rulebook is therefore a sensible tabletop recommendation, but the exact edition, current price and Amazon availability are not established here. Check the publisher’s current product information and your local retailer before buying, because tabletop editions and stock can change.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Other Glorantha names worth investigating
The same official Steam description also mentions HeroQuest and God Wars as Glorantha experiences. They are useful search leads for readers who want to explore the setting further, but the available product information does not establish enough current detail to rank either above the three recommendations.
Treat those names as invitations to verify the specific edition or release you find. A title associated with Glorantha may emphasize role-playing, board-game systems, fiction or another format rather than the clan-survival structure that defines Six Ages.

Choose by the experience you want
If continuity matters most
Pick Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out. It is the only recommendation presented as a direct continuation, so it minimizes the adjustment in setting, tone and decision style.
If management and diplomacy matter most
Start with King of Dragon Pass. Its shared Gloranthan foundation and emphasis on clan and tribe leadership make it the most natural alternative for players who remember council disputes, resource shortages and the consequences of dealing with neighboring communities.
If mythic role-playing matters most
Choose RuneQuest if you have a group and want to author the story together. It moves the branching decisions from a computer’s event list into the players’ conversations, character choices and negotiated interpretation of the setting.

What to look for in any game marketed as “like Six Ages”
Genre labels such as “strategy” and “mythology” are too broad on their own. Use these checks before assuming a title will satisfy the same audience:
- Community scale: Do you guide a clan, tribe or settlement, or only one character?
- Consequences over time: Can an action alter future generations, alliances or available options?
- Economic decisions: Are food, land, trade, labor or other communal resources meaningful constraints?
- Religious systems: Do gods, spirits and rituals affect practical outcomes, rather than serving only as decoration?
- Branching structure: Are there multiple viable endings or campaign paths?
- Exploration beyond combat: Can diplomacy, trade, ritual or investigation solve problems?
- Format: Is it a solo digital game, a cooperative board game or a tabletop campaign?
A game that passes only the mythology test may still feel unlike Six Ages. The distinctive appeal comes from the interaction of all seven: practical survival decisions become more difficult because they are also political, spiritual and historical choices.
Recommended order for a new player
- Play Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind first if you have not experienced its clan, exploration and religious systems. Its more than 400 scenes show the full storybook-strategy formula.
- Move to Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out when you want continuity and another campaign in the same mythic world.
- Try King of Dragon Pass when you want to trace the series’ spiritual predecessor and explore a closely related clan-management structure.
- Choose RuneQuest when you are ready to exchange solo event selection for collaborative, player-authored storytelling.
That order is not a quality ranking. It follows the amount of change between experiences: direct continuation first, closest related computer game second, and tabletop reinterpretation when you want the setting without the same software-driven structure.
