Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If you want a game that is actually set during Christmas—not just a snowy level or a December event—start with Spider-Man: Miles Morales, The Division, or the SNES version of Batman Returns. Each places its story in the holiday season, but the mood ranges from festive New York action to a bleak post-attack shooter and a Christmas-season beat ’em up. For stories centered directly on Santa or Christmas, see the separate picks below.
Games whose stories are set during Christmas
These recommendations meet the strict setting test: Christmas-season details are part of the game’s world or story, rather than content that appears only because of the calendar or a temporary update.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Set in a decorated, wintry New York during the holiday season, this action-adventure is the strongest fit if you want Christmas atmosphere alongside a superhero story. GameSpot describes the entire game as taking place during the holiday season. GameSpot’s Christmas-setting list supports the seasonal setting.
The Division
The original The Division is a darker choice: a post-apocalyptic squad shooter set in the weeks leading up to Christmas, following a terrorist attack on Black Friday. Its holiday timing shapes the backdrop, but its tone is tense rather than cozy. GameSpot identifies the game’s pre-Christmas setting in the same overview of games set during Christmas.

Batman Returns (SNES)
The SNES version of Batman Returns is a holiday-season beat ’em up, with snowy Gotham streets and Christmas trees visible in shop windows. This recommendation is specifically for the SNES edition; the cited description does not establish the same details for every version of the game. GameSpot’s list describes the SNES setting.
Games where Christmas itself is the main theme
These are adjacent recommendations: Christmas is central to the premise or play structure, rather than simply the time of year in which an otherwise ordinary story happens.

If your priority is a familiar game genre with Christmas woven into its setting, choose one of the first three. If you want Santa, a Christmas-themed adventure, or an activity for a group, pick from the second list and use the platform details to narrow it down. Store catalogs can vary by region, so check the relevant storefront for current availability and edition information.

A seasonal update can make an existing game feel festive without changing its permanent setting. Roblox’s 2024 Winter Spotlight announcement, for example, covered 24 featured experiences with holiday stories, winter maps, gift quests, and festive modes; it said the experiences would be “decking the halls” until January 2. That was a time-limited 2024 event announcement, not evidence that those experiences remain festive in 2026 or are normally set at Christmas. See Roblox’s Winter Spotlight announcement.
Best Value
- IMMERSE IN A CHRISTMAS TRADITION: Follow the story or enjoy fun minigames. There’s something for everyone to bring holiday cheer.
- BECOME A SCOUT ELF: Complete your training and help Santa figure out who’s on his Nice List.
- PLAY MINIGAMES FILLED WITH MAGIC: Put your skills to the test by solving puzzles, matching cards, sorting ornaments and making your way through mazes.
- COLLECT TO SPARKLE & SHINE: Run, jump, and swing through levels building your Christmas Spirit Counter. If you miss them, you can always go back.
- DESIGN YOUR ELF HERO: Create the perfect holiday outfit with sparkling seasonal accessories.
For a strict Christmas-season setting, look for the holiday period to be part of the story or world itself. Snow alone, a winter stage, or a recurring event that appears only at certain dates is a different kind of recommendation.
