Noita lets you craft spells while exploring a simulated world; Mages of Mystralia builds them from runes; Morrowind offers traditional RPG spellmaking; and Magicka focuses on combining elements on the fly. Here are six sourced examples, with the kind of spell creation each offers. They are not all equivalent to writing a custom spell recipe and saving it.
Spell creation can mean several different things
Some games let you assemble a spell from components in a menu. Others let you combine elements during combat, or customize spells as part of tactical planning. The distinction matters: if you want to make a spell ahead of time and use it as a custom recipe, a live-combination game may not be what you mean.
- Crafting or spellmaking: assemble or customize spells from available parts or learned effects.
- Live combination: combine magical elements as you play, rather than saving a finished spell in a conventional spellmaking menu.
- Rune-based design: connect runes with different properties to shape a spell’s behavior.
Games with player-shaped magic
Noita — craft spells in a simulated world
Noita is the clearest fit here for experimental spell crafting. Nolla Games describes it as a magical action roguelite in which players create spells while exploring a world where every pixel is physically simulated. The appeal is the connection between crafted magic and a destructible, reactive environment. The available description does not establish specific spell recipes or guarantee particular outcomes, so treat it as an invitation to experiment rather than a promise of any one build.
Mages of Mystralia — build spells from runes
In Mages of Mystralia, players combine runes with magical properties to design spells for combat and environmental puzzles. That makes it a strong choice if you want spell construction to serve both fighting and problem-solving. Steam lists its release date as May 18, 2017. The store page advertises “millions” of combinations; that is the page’s promotional claim, not an independently verified count.

Morrowind — traditional RPG spellmaking
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is a broader, open-ended single-player RPG, not a game built solely around spell construction. Its manual describes a spellmaking service where characters combine learned effects into new spells. That makes it the most traditional role-playing-game example in this list: you develop a character and use spellmaking as one part of a larger adventure. The cited sources establish the service, but not the complete range or balance of possible custom builds.
Magicka — combine elements in real time
Magicka emphasizes a dynamic system based on combining elements. It is better understood as live spell combination than as a conventional menu for saving custom spells. Choose it if the appeal is improvising magical combinations in the moment.

Magicka 2 — experiment with many combinations
Magicka 2 continues the dynamic, element-combination approach. Paradox describes thousands of spells to experiment with. As with the first game, the important distinction is that the system centers on combining elements during play, rather than on a traditional spellmaking service.
Spellmasons — customize spells for tactical play
Spellmasons is described on its Steam community page as a tactical roguelike with customizable spells. The page also notes solo and online multiplayer modes. It is a useful option if you want to think through spell combinations in a tactical setting rather than focus on action-oriented experimentation. Check the current store page for up-to-date release and availability details.

What about Tyranny and Divinity: Original Sin 2?
Tyranny is an RPG, but the detailed account of its modular-sigil spell creation in the sources available here comes from a community-maintained wiki, not an official manual. That makes it a less firmly supported recommendation than the six games above.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is officially described as a sandbox RPG where players wield magic, but Larian’s skill-creation documentation concerns modifying skills through the Divinity Engine. That is modding documentation, not evidence that ordinary players create spells within the released game, so it should not be presented as an in-game spellmaking system on that basis.
