Best for ruling a realm: Crusader Kings III
Crusader Kings III is the closest fit if “playing as royalty” means governing, building influence, and keeping a family in power. Paradox describes a customizable ruler and noble house, with realm governance, titles, intrigue, and succession. PlayStation’s PS5 listing presents it as a strategy role-playing game about leading a medieval noble family: when a ruler dies, an heir takes over. That succession makes the dynasty—not just one character’s reign—the focus.
Paradox’s Royal Court expansion adds a throne room, royal audiences, and court life. It is an additional way to deepen the royal setting, not a requirement for the base game’s ruler-and-dynasty experience. Paradox lists the expansion for Steam, Microsoft, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5.

Nintendo describes the Switch package as including both Reigns and Reigns: Her Majesty. You sit on the throne and swipe royal decrees left or right to make decisions. Choose it if the appeal is reacting to choices as a monarch in a focused format; it is not presented as a deep realm-management simulator.
Best for playing a princess in an adventure: Princess Peach: Showtime!
In Princess Peach: Showtime!, Peach is the protagonist, visiting the Sparkle Theater and taking the spotlight to rescue the show. Nintendo’s official page highlights transformations including Ninja Peach. Pick it if you want to control a recognizable princess through an adventure, rather than make the decisions of a ruler.
