Back to the Dawn is the closest documented match for GTA 6’s combination of two playable leads, crime, consequential choices and multiple endings. Choose Empire of Sin if your priority is building a criminal organization, Mike & Tyler for a two-character detective mystery, and The Wolf Among Us 2 for branching noir without a confirmed dual-protagonist structure.
These games do not all imitate GTA 6’s large-scale console action format. Their similarities are more specific: paired or switchable leads, criminal investigations, underworld decision-making, route variation and consequences that change how a story unfolds.

What GTA 6 actually promises
Rockstar’s official Grand Theft Auto VI description centers on Jason and Lucia, a criminal partnership whose easy score goes wrong. The pair becomes caught in “the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida” and must rely on each other to survive. That establishes the dual-protagonist crime premise, but the official page does not confirm how much the campaign branches or whether it has multiple endings.
The same page currently lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with November 19, 2026 shown as the release date. Release information can change, so check the official listing near launch. GTA 6 is therefore the reference point for a two-lead criminal story in a large console action game, not a confirmed benchmark for branching narrative design.

Back to the Dawn: the strongest structural match
Back to the Dawn most closely answers the question “What should I play if I want two protagonists and a branching crime story?” Its publisher presents two selectable leads: Thomas, a reporter caught in a web of lies, and Bob, an undercover agent sent deep into the prison system. Their campaigns are separate rather than merely offering cosmetic character swaps.
Two campaigns with different viewpoints
Thomas is wrongfully convicted, while Bob enters the prison system undercover. That setup gives the same crime-ridden animal metropolis two investigative viewpoints: one character is trying to survive and expose the truth from inside, and the other is operating under an official mission. The publisher says each protagonist’s storyline delivers more than 20 hours. Treat that as a publisher estimate, not a guaranteed playtime for every player; exploration, difficulty and optional quests affect the total.
Routes, quests and endings
The game’s documented variation is unusually concrete. The official page lists more than 100 handcrafted quests, multiple escape routes with their own risks and rewards, and several possible endings. Those systems make choices matter at the route level: an escape plan is not just a different cutscene, and completing one character’s story does not simply duplicate the other’s.
The publisher also describes more than 500,000 words of narrative. That figure signals a text-heavy role-playing game built around dialogue, decisions and investigation rather than a driving-focused sandbox. If what you want from GTA 6 is a huge map and continuous action, Back to the Dawn is not a one-for-one substitute. If you want two criminally entangled lives, decisions that redirect progress and reasons to replay, it is the best fit in this group.

Setting and platforms
Back to the Dawn takes place in a gritty animal metropolis split by crime and corruption, with the prison acting as the central pressure cooker. The official page lists Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, including standard and limited package editions. A supported physical-product search phrase is “Back to the Dawn PS5”; retailer price and stock are not established here and can change.
Empire of Sin: choose a boss and run the underworld
Empire of Sin is the recommendation for readers who mean “crime sandbox” as an organization-building strategy game rather than a character-driven action adventure. Paradox describes it as a strategy game set in the ruthless criminal underworld of 1920s Prohibition-era Chicago.
What you control
You choose one of 14 fictional or historically inspired mob bosses, assemble a gang and compete for territory. The management layer covers speakeasies, supply chains, casinos and other businesses. That creates a web of strategic decisions: where to expand, which operations to protect, how to supply them and how to use your crew in turn-based confrontations.
Why it is only a partial GTA 6 match
Empire of Sin has criminal progression and branching strategic priorities, but it does not provide the documented two-protagonist structure found in GTA 6, Back to the Dawn or Mike & Tyler. You are directing an empire through a selected boss, not switching between two co-equal leads with separate personal storylines. Combat is turn-based, and the core loop is territory and business management rather than real-time traversal through a large action map.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Choose it when your ideal crime story is about the consequences of running an organization: rival factions, resource pressure, expansion and the survival of a criminal business network. Do not choose it expecting a paired-partner narrative or a confirmed set of cinematic multiple endings.
Mike & Tyler: a two-character detective mystery
Mike & Tyler directly satisfies the “switch between two investigators” part of the request. Dionous Games presents it as a Miami Vice-inspired point-and-click murder mystery. The case begins with a body, and the investigators analyze clues, deduce suspects and work through puzzles.
How the partnership works
You can switch between Mike and Tyler, then use both characters together for puzzles that require cooperation and timing. That is a functional two-character design rather than two unrelated campaigns: progress depends on deciding which investigator is useful in a situation and when their abilities or positions must be coordinated.

The available description does not establish a branching campaign, route-specific endings or an open-world structure. Its strength is investigation and partner cooperation, not a documented consequence system. The page lists a 2026 release and currently presents the game as a wishlist title, so availability and final launch details should be checked before purchase.

Pick Mike & Tyler if the phrase “two criminal or detective leads” matters more to you than free-roaming action. It is the cleanest match for clue analysis, suspect deduction and noir partnership play, while Back to the Dawn is the better choice for broad route variation.
The Wolf Among Us 2: branching noir without confirmed dual leads
The Wolf Among Us 2 belongs on a shortlist for players who value choices and consequences. Telltale’s official listing describes a dark neon-noir narrative thriller in which branching choices have lasting consequences.
However, the available description does not establish two playable protagonists. It should therefore be treated as a branching-noir companion to GTA 6, not as a direct answer to the dual-protagonist question. Its relevant feature is consequence-driven storytelling: decisions persist and can alter later situations. The game’s crime connection is tonal and investigative rather than the documented criminal partnership and Leonida-wide conspiracy used to define GTA 6.

Branching depth: what is confirmed and what is not
Confirmed route variation
Back to the Dawn provides the clearest evidence of structural branching: multiple escape routes, route-specific risks and rewards, and several possible endings. Its 100-plus handcrafted quests and two separate protagonist stories give those choices room to accumulate.

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Confirmed consequence systems
The Wolf Among Us 2 is explicitly described as having branching choices with lasting consequences. That confirms persistence of decisions, but not a specific number of endings or a dual-lead format.
Not yet confirmed for GTA 6
GTA 6’s official page confirms Jason, Lucia and the criminal conspiracy in Leonida. It does not document branching depth, a number of endings or the exact mechanics for switching between the protagonists. Avoid assuming those features simply because earlier crime games used them.
Platform and buying considerations
GTA 6’s listed platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Back to the Dawn’s official listing includes Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, with standard and limited package editions. Empire of Sin is listed for PC and consoles. Mike & Tyler is presented as a 2026 wishlist title, so a final platform list is not established in the available information.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For a physical-product search, “Back to the Dawn PS5” is the defensible wording because a PS5 package edition is documented. Do not infer a retailer’s current price, inventory or delivery date from the existence of that edition.
Bottom line for GTA 6 fans
Start with Back to the Dawn if your priority is the complete feature combination: two protagonists, crime, meaningful choices, multiple routes and several endings. Move to Empire of Sin for strategic criminal-empire management, Mike & Tyler for a cooperative detective investigation, and The Wolf Among Us 2 for branching noir where the lasting-consequence system matters more than having two leads. GTA 6 remains the reference for Jason and Lucia’s criminal partnership, but its official material does not yet confirm the branching structure many players are hoping to see.
