If you want games with synthwave, retrowave, or electronic music, start with Furi for a clearly credited electronic-artist lineup, Hotline Miami for a multi-artist soundtrack, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon for an overtly retro 1980s feel, or Cyberpunk 2077 for a broader, more varied music world. These are different kinds of recommendations: “electronic,” “retro,” and “synthwave” overlap, but they are not interchangeable labels.
Which game fits the sound you want?
| Game | Best fit | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| Furi | Electronic music with a distinct artist roster | The Game Bakers’ Steam soundtrack listing credits 22 tracks and 93 minutes, with downloadable MP3 and FLAC files. It names artists including Carpenter Brut, Danger, The Toxic Avenger, Lorn, Scattle, Waveshaper, and Kn1ght. Steam soundtrack listing |
| Hotline Miami | A varied, multi-artist soundtrack | Steam describes the soundtrack as containing over 20 tracks from nine artists. The accessible listing does not establish additional artist or track details here. Steam listing |
| Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon | Retro 1980s atmosphere | Ubisoft discusses the game’s 1980s-feeling score by Power Glove in a composer interview. The interview is not a complete track guide. Ubisoft interview |
| Cyberpunk 2077 | A broad electronic and futuristic music mix | CD PROJEKT RED announced a wide group of contributors, including Run the Jewels, Refused, Grimes, Gazelle Twin, Richard Devine, and Nina Kraviz. Its music includes commissioned work, songs by the fictional band SAMURAI, and in-game radio programming. CD PROJEKT RED music announcement |
This is a set of entry points, not an objective ranking. Track counts and artist credits describe what a release contains; they do not measure which soundtrack is “best.”
Furi: a clearly credited electronic-artist ensemble
Furi is the most straightforward pick here if you want a soundtrack identified through a roster of electronic artists rather than a single composer credit. Its Steam soundtrack listing names Carpenter Brut, Danger, The Toxic Avenger, Lorn, Scattle, Waveshaper, and Kn1ght, among others. The separately listed soundtrack contains 22 tracks and runs 93 minutes, according to that 2016 Steam listing; it is additional content, not the base game, and includes MP3 and FLAC downloads. See the soundtrack listing on Steam.
Hotline Miami: a multi-artist soundtrack
If you would rather hear a collection of artists than one continuous composer-led score, Hotline Miami is another strong direction. Steam describes its soundtrack as having over 20 tracks from nine artists. Those figures come from the storefront description; they are not a measure of quality, and the available listing does not support a more detailed track-by-track guide. View the Steam listing.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon: retro 1980s scoring
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is the choice for a score framed around an unmistakable retro-1980s feel. Ubisoft’s composer interview discusses Power Glove’s music in that context. It is useful evidence for the score’s period styling, not a full inventory of its tracks or a claim that every piece fits a narrowly defined synthwave genre. Read Ubisoft’s interview.
Cyberpunk 2077: a wider electronic music world
Cyberpunk 2077 is broader than a synthwave recommendation. CD PROJEKT RED’s December 13, 2019 announcement named musicians recorded for the game, including Run the Jewels, Refused, Grimes, A$AP Rocky, Gazelle Twin, Ilan Rubin, Richard Devine, Nina Kraviz, Deadly Hunta, Rat Boy, and Tina Guo. The mix spans commissioned material, fictional-band songs, and radio selections rather than one narrowly defined style. See the publisher’s contributor announcement.

How to choose between synthwave, retro, and electronic
- Choose by genre directness. A retro or futuristic atmosphere does not automatically mean a game’s music is explicitly labeled synthwave. The available sources establish Blood Dragon’s 1980s framing and Cyberpunk 2077’s broad roster, but those are different kinds of evidence.
- Choose by format. Furi and Hotline Miami are presented through multiple credited artists. Cyberpunk 2077 combines commissioned tracks, fictional-band songs, and radio listening. These structures can matter as much as genre when deciding what you want to hear.
- Choose by listening context. Game music may be built to support changing play rather than to behave like a conventional album. In an Ubisoft interview about music for separate Far Cry 5 post-launch adventures, composer Andrew Gordon Macpherson explained, “Videogame music is loop-based, for the most part, so it can last for quite a long time if need be.” That is a useful general point about game scoring, not a claim that every soundtrack here works the same way.
- Choose by standalone access. The Furi soundtrack has a separate Steam product listing with MP3 and FLAC downloads. The Hotline Miami Steam result also identifies a soundtrack storefront item. Store availability and formats can change by time and region; these listings do not establish a physical record or CD edition.
Other possible leads
Ghostrunner 2 and Katana ZERO are worth checking if you are building a longer list, but the available evidence is thinner than for the games above. A recent roundup says Epic Games Store describes Ghostrunner 2’s music as “synthwave beats” and mentions both games among its picks; that secondary lead is not enough to treat either as fully documented here. See the roundup.
