If you love Halo, no single game matches all of it. Titanfall 2 is the best starting point because it combines a science-fiction single-player campaign with online multiplayer. DOOM Eternal suits players who want fast, aggressive combat, although its demon-fighting tone is far from Halo’s military science fiction. Destiny 2 is a shared-world co-op option for players who want an ongoing game rather than a campaign they finish.
What to compare first
Halo is usually loved for several different things at once, and a game can match one of them while missing the others. Before you pick a shooter, decide which of these you miss most:
- Campaign: a story-driven, single-player experience you play through from start to finish.
- Multiplayer or co-op: competitive online play, or cooperative play with other people.
- Science-fiction setting: futuristic weapons, vehicles and a military-style tone, as opposed to fantasy, horror or a different kind of sci-fi.
- Combat pace: how quickly you move, aim and fight.
Halo’s science-fiction campaigns and competitive multiplayer are the core appeal that a GamesRadar+ roundup of games like Halo identifies, so those are the two axes this guide uses. That roundup is about four years old, so treat its game-level details as a starting point rather than current fact.
How the three picks compare
| Game | Campaign | Multiplayer or co-op | Setting and tone | Platforms | Closest Halo match |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Titanfall 2 | Single-player story about a Pilot and a Titan (listed on Xbox and Steam) | Online multiplayer with additional Titans, Pilot abilities and customization | Science fiction | Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S (per the Xbox store listing) | Sci-fi shooting in both solo and online modes |
| DOOM Eternal | Single-player campaign of demon-fighting combat | 2-versus-1 asymmetric BATTLEMODE | Demon-slaying, not military sci-fi | Not stated in the reviewed Xbox listing | Fast first-person combat and an action-heavy campaign |
| Destiny 2 | Story missions (per GamesRadar+) | Co-op raids and Strikes (per GamesRadar+) | Not stated in the cited roundup | Not stated in the cited roundup | Shared-world co-op with ongoing content |
The three picks in detail
Titanfall 2: the closest overall match
Respawn’s Titanfall 2 is the strongest all-round choice for a Halo fan. Its single-player story follows a Pilot and a Titan, and its multiplayer adds more Titans, Pilot abilities and customization options. Both the Xbox store page and the Steam listing describe a single-player campaign and multiplayer, so it is the one pick here that clearly offers science-fiction shooting both alone and online.

- A CLASSIC REIMAGINED — Experience the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign rebuilt with high‑definition visuals, updated cinematics, refined controls, and a brand‑new three‑mission adventure.
- ENHANCED AUDIO & VISUALS — Relive every mission with modernized animations, a remastered soundtrack, and fully rebuilt sound design for deeper immersion across the Halo universe.
- NEW STORY CONTENT — Play as the Master Chief alongside Sgt. Johnson in Operation: Meteorite, a standalone campaign featuring new environments, enemies, and gameplay challenges.
- ICONIC VEHICLES EVOLVED — Drive and hijack classic Halo vehicles with new gameplay possibilities, including piloting a fully controllable Wraith tank for the first time in Halo: CE.
- CO‑OP YOUR WAY — Play solo, in 2‑player split‑screen co‑op (console only), or up to 4‑player online co‑op with full crossplay and cross‑progression support.
The differences are mostly about feel. Titanfall 2 is built around mobility and mech-and-pilot combat rather than Halo’s ground-based military framing, so expect a faster and more vertical game. The Xbox listing gives a release date of October 28, 2016 and names Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as supported platforms. Store listings do not tell you how busy the multiplayer population is today, so check recent player activity before you rely on online matches.
DOOM Eternal: fast combat, a different tone
DOOM Eternal is the pick for players who care most about combat speed. Its campaign is built around fighting demons, and its BATTLEMODE is an asymmetric 2-versus-1 mode rather than a standard team deathmatch. The Xbox BATTLEMODE listing describes both parts. The standard edition listing covers the base game, but bundle contents can change, so check it before buying.

Halo fans should expect a clear change in setting. DOOM Eternal’s demon-slaying fantasy and its combat loop are not close to Halo’s military science fiction. It is a good match for a fast, action-heavy campaign, not for a similar story or atmosphere.
Destiny 2: shared-world co-op
GamesRadar+ includes Destiny 2 as a shared-world option, pointing to raids, Strikes and story missions. That makes it the most relevant pick for a Halo fan who mainly wants to play with others over a long period. Its content is organised around ongoing activities rather than a single campaign you complete, which is a different experience from either Titanfall 2 or DOOM Eternal.

A full list of ten games would need each title’s campaign structure, multiplayer modes, setting and platforms confirmed in current official sources. Those details are available for Titanfall 2 and DOOM Eternal, and only partly for Destiny 2, so this guide covers those three rather than padding the list with games it cannot describe accurately.
