No original article naming those six games, or defining what “reviewed higher” means, was found, so this piece does not offer a ranking. What can be established is the score context around Clair Obscur, which games sources do name as turn-based RPGs, and how to build a comparison that holds up.
What the headline claims, and what is missing
A ranking of games by review score only means something when it fixes a few variables. Without them, “reviewed higher” can describe almost any pair of numbers. The headline leaves out every one of the following:

- The six games. No list naming them was located.
- The outlet. Whether the scores come from one publication’s reviews or from an aggregate such as Metacritic’s Metascore is not stated.
- The platform and edition. Scores attach to a specific release, and a PC, PlayStation or Switch version can be reviewed separately.
- The date. Scores change as patches arrive and as aggregates add or drop reviews.
Until those are pinned down, the headline describes a comparison that cannot be checked.
What is established about Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s scores
Three sources give concrete information about the game. They differ in what they measure, which is the main point to keep in mind.

| Source | Date | Figure or finding | What it measures |
|---|---|---|---|
| GameSpot, “A New RPG Is A Contender For 2025’s Best Game, And It’s Not The One You Think” | 2025 | Metascore of 92, shared with Blue Prince at the time of the article | Metacritic’s aggregate score, as reported by GameSpot |
| GameSpot, “17 Outstanding Modern And Classic Turn-Based RPGs” | 2026 | Describes Clair Obscur as a 2025 game with a Metacritic score of 92, and as one of the best-reviewed new games of 2025 | Metacritic’s aggregate score, repeated in a genre guide |
| Metacritic, “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Reviews” | Date not stated | Critic review listing that includes a PlayStation 5 review page and critic excerpts | Individual critic reviews, grouped under the game’s listing |
Both GameSpot pieces repeat the same aggregate figure, and the 2026 guide is repeating a 2025 report rather than offering a new measurement. The 92 is therefore not one outlet’s review score, and it is a snapshot. Readers should treat it as the Metacritic figure as reported by GameSpot in those articles, not as a fixed property of the game.
Turn-based RPGs named in the sources
Sources name several titles in the turn-based genre, but naming a game in a list is not the same as ranking it against Clair Obscur.

How to build a defensible comparison
If you are comparing turn-based RPGs yourself, or evaluating a future list, these steps keep the result meaningful:
Rank #4
- Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a ground-breaking turn-based RPG with unique real-time mechanics, making battles more immersive and addictive than ever.
- Explore a fantasy world inspired by Belle Époque France in which you battle devastating enemies.
- Fix one outlet. Use scores from a single publication’s own review pages, so every number was produced under the same editorial standards.
- Fix one scale and one platform. Note whether the score is out of 10, out of 100, or stars, and which platform or edition was reviewed.
- Separate aggregates from individual reviews. A Metascore averages many critics; a single review reflects one writer’s reading. Do not place them in one ranking without labelling the difference.
- Date every score. Record when each figure was published, and whether later patches or re-reviews could have changed it.
- Compare like with like on play experience. Scores say little on their own. Compare combat approach, narrative focus, and the kind of session each game asks for.
Choosing a turn-based RPG without a score ranking
If the goal is a next game rather than a leaderboard, the useful questions are about play style and access:
- Do you want tactical, positioning-based combat, or party-based turn systems with a more traditional structure?
- Is the story the main draw, or is it the mechanics and build-making?
- Which platform do you own, and which edition is actually available to you?
Answering those points narrows the choice far more reliably than a single number, especially when the number comes from an aggregate, a date, and a platform that may not match your own.
