GameSir G7 Review: Is This Wired Xbox Controller Worth It?

The original GameSir G7 brings tactile micro-switch buttons, two remappable rear controls and a swappable faceplate to Xbox and PC, but its wired design is a real trade-off.

The original GameSir G7 is a wired Xbox and PC controller aimed at players who want tactile face buttons, two remappable rear buttons and a customizable magnetic faceplate. Its main compromise is equally clear: it is wired, not wireless. Whether it is a good fit depends on how much those controls matter to you and whether a cable works in your setup.

What is the original GameSir G7?

The original G7 is a wired controller for Xbox and PC. Its distinguishing features are micro-switch face buttons, two remappable rear buttons and a magnetic faceplate that can be swapped for customization. It also has a 3.5 mm audio jack, and the manual search result lists a 3 m USB-C cable. The manual listing is hosted by Marvel.ru and was not directly fetched, so treat the cable detail as listed documentation rather than a fresh hands-on confirmation: GameSir G7 user manual.

Is the GameSir G7 wired?

Yes. The original G7 connects by cable; it is not a wireless controller. A wired connection avoids needing to keep a controller battery charged, but it limits how far you can sit from the console or PC and leaves a cable to manage. If you play across a room or strongly prefer freedom of movement, that trade-off may outweigh the G7’s extra controls.

Does the GameSir G7 have clicky buttons?

The original G7 uses micro-switch face buttons, which are intended to provide a more tactile, click-like action than conventional-feeling buttons. Windows Central’s reviewer preferred the original G7’s ABXY button feel to the more traditional action on the G7 SE; that is a reviewer preference, not a universal measure of which feel is better. If you value tactile feedback, this is one of the original model’s clearest attractions.

What do the rear buttons and faceplate add?

Two remappable rear buttons

The two rear buttons can be remapped, giving you extra inputs without moving your thumbs from the sticks and face buttons. They are most useful if you have specific actions you want to reach quickly; if you rarely use rear controls, they may not change your experience much.

Magnetic swappable faceplate

The magnetic faceplate lets you change the controller’s appearance. Windows Central reports that the G7 SE shares compatibility with the original G7’s faceplates. If buying an extra plate or replacement, confirm that it is explicitly compatible with your exact model: similar names do not guarantee that every accessory fits.

Headset connection

The manual search result lists a 3.5 mm audio jack. That can be useful for a wired headset, but check the manual or product documentation for your region and setup if headset compatibility is a deciding factor.

How does the original G7 compare with the G7 SE and G7 HE?

GameSir’s model names are easy to confuse. The G7 SE and G7 HE are distinct products, not alternate names for the original. In particular, do not assume the original G7 has Hall effect sticks or the newer models’ other revisions.

Model What the cited sources establish What to keep in mind
Original G7 Wired Xbox/PC controller; tactile micro-switch face buttons; two remappable rear buttons; magnetic swappable faceplate. The manual search result lists a 3 m USB-C cable and 3.5 mm audio jack. The cited material does not establish Hall effect sticks or rear-button locking for this model.
G7 SE Windows Central describes it as physically close to the original, with the same faceplate compatibility and general layout. The SE adds Hall effect sticks, locking rear-button switches and revised grip ergonomics. Windows Central says the SE replaces the original’s micro-switch face-button action with a more conventional feel; the reviewer preferred the original buttons.
G7 HE GameSir’s official listing describes the HE as a wired Xbox/PC controller with Hall effect sticks and triggers, micro-switch face buttons, four rumble motors, a detachable 3 m USB-C cable, two remappable rear buttons and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Those specifications belong to the G7 HE, not the original G7. GameSir’s cited listing shows $49.99 for the HE, not the original: official GameSir G7 HE listing.

Windows Central’s comparison says the SE’s grip was made more comfortable than the original’s. That is the reviewer’s assessment, so players should weigh shape and hand comfort personally rather than assuming the SE fits everyone better. For a fuller account of that comparison, see Windows Central’s GameSir G7 review.

Is the GameSir G7 a good Xbox controller for you?

The original G7 is a sensible fit if you want wired play, tactile face buttons, two remappable rear controls and a customizable faceplate. Its 3.5 mm jack may also suit a wired-headset setup. It is a less suitable choice if wireless convenience is essential, if the cable will not reach comfortably, or if grip comfort is your top priority and you prefer the SE’s revised ergonomics as described by Windows Central.

Choose by exact model rather than by the shared G7 name. If Hall effect sticks or triggers, locking rear-button switches, or a detachable cable are important, verify those specifications against the particular model listing; the cited evidence assigns Hall effect sticks to the SE and Hall effect sticks and triggers to the HE, not to the original G7.
