The GameSir X2s Type-C is a compact, wired phone controller with a retro 2DS-inspired look, Hall Effect sticks and triggers, and a movable USB-C connector. It works with the iPhone 15 series, but its small controls and the need to remove many phone cases are important trade-offs. Macworld listed it at $45.99 when reviewed in May 2024; that is historical context, not a current price.
What the GameSir X2s is—and which iPhones it supports
The X2s Type-C is a telescoping controller that grips a phone between two handles and connects through its built-in USB-C plug. GameSir unveiled it on March 10, 2024, and described its styling as inspired by the Nintendo 2DS. Its rubber-coated grips and movable connector are intended to accommodate different phone shapes, including foldables.
GameSir specifically lists the iPhone 15 series as supported. Its setup tutorial calls for iOS 14 or later; the FAQ also lists Android phones measuring 110–168 mm (4.3–6.6 inches), with Android 8.0 or later. The available compatibility information does not establish support for iPhone generations newer than the 15 series, so check GameSir’s current compatibility information before buying for a newer model.
How to connect and set it up
- Check that the phone runs iOS 14 or later, or Android 8.0 or later. Remove a case if it is thicker than 1 mm; even thinner cases may not fit every phone comfortably.
- Extend the controller, then position the phone in its cradle so the built-in Type-C connector meets the phone’s port.
- Release the controller gently to secure the phone. GameSir says the indicator should be white for iOS and blue for Android.
- If the controller is in the wrong mode, hold G + S to switch modes. Confirm that the game recognizes the controller before starting play.
The controller draws power from the connected phone, so it does not need its own charging. This is a wired connection, not Bluetooth: the USB-C plug carries the control connection and the phone powers the controller.

Controls, feel and customization
Hall Effect sticks and triggers
GameSir says the sticks use non-contact magnetic sensors intended to avoid the wear associated with traditional contact-based sensing. That design claim is not an independent durability test or a guarantee against drift. The analog Hall Effect triggers have a full response area; holding Capture + LT or Capture + RT for two seconds enables hair-trigger mode.
Button layout and bumpers
Capture + A switches between Xbox and Nintendo button layouts. The bumpers use micro-switches; GameSir rates them for a 3-million-click lifespan. That figure is the manufacturer’s rating, not an independently verified test result.

Android software
On Android, GameSir World can adjust stick and trigger dead zones, button layout, and analog or hair-trigger mode. The available information does not establish equivalent app customization on iOS, so do not assume that the same software controls are available there.
What it is like to play with
In his May 13, 2024 review, Macworld’s Petter Ahrnstedt tested the X2s with both an iPhone 15 Pro Max and a regular iPhone 15. He reports playing Halo Infinite through Xbox cloud gaming, War Robots and Asphalt, and describes the controller as easy to use, with analog controls and a clicky feel. He also notes that adapting to physical controls takes practice. These examples show use with those games and devices, not universal compatibility across every game or platform.

GameSir says the controller supports Android games, cloud gaming and emulators. Actual support depends on whether a specific game or service accepts a controller and, for streaming, on the platform’s requirements. The X2s supplies the physical controls; it does not itself provide games or a cloud-gaming subscription.
Fit, comfort and practical trade-offs
Case clearance
The setup tutorial gives a maximum case thickness of 1 mm, but fit can also depend on the phone and case shape. In its review, iMore found poor compatibility with many iPhone 15 Pro Max cases and said cases often had to be removed. If keeping a protective case on is essential, this is a meaningful drawback; verify the fit for your particular phone and case rather than relying on the adjustable connector alone.

Hand size and controls
iMore describes the controls as small and says the layout may suit smaller hands better. Its verdict calls the X2s a strong iPhone controller for smaller hands. Readers with large hands should be cautious: compact dimensions and clicky controls are part of the appeal, but may not be comfortable for everyone over long sessions.
Headphones and charging
The controller has no aux/headphone jack. iMore highlights passthrough charging as a feature, but the available information does not specify its exact charging behavior or limits. Do not treat passthrough charging as evidence that wired headphones can connect through the controller.

Is the X2s a budget buy?
Macworld listed a price of $45.99 when it reviewed the X2s in May 2024. That historical review price does not establish today’s price, which can vary by retailer and market. Its value proposition is clearest if you want compact retro styling, Hall Effect inputs and a wired controller without a separate controller battery; it is less compelling if you need generous controls, a headphone jack or reliable use with a case on.
