Those dated reports do not show that GameStop’s system is currently down or establish the status of any individual order. What happened to GameStop’s online Switch 2 preorders?
On April 24, 2025, the Associated Press reported that GameStop’s online preorder listing appeared unavailable within minutes. GameStop Help said, “We’re seeing overwhelming demand for Switch 2, which is causing some site issues,” and the company later said online preorders had sold out while it continued removing bot and duplicate orders in an effort to reopen inventory. The AP reported that in-store preorders were still available that afternoon. These are launch-day events, not evidence of a current outage or current stock.

Shoppers reported long waits, error messages, empty carts and confirmation delays. The AP also described reports across retailer launches of apparent confirmation emails followed by cancellation notices; those broader reports should not be treated as proof that GameStop canceled every delayed order, or any particular reader’s order. The report did not establish how many GameStop customers were affected.
The AP put the U.S. baseline launch price at $449.99 in its 2025 coverage. That is historical launch context, not a current price or offer.

Is a delayed confirmation the same as a canceled order?
No. A checkout error, an empty cart, a delayed confirmation, a payment problem and a cancellation notice are different signals. The launch reporting describes customer experiences but cannot diagnose a specific order. Do not assume a reservation is secured—or canceled—based only on a checkout screen or a delay.
Check your own order record
- Sign in to the GameStop account used for the purchase and inspect order history for the Switch 2 preorder and its displayed status.
- Search the email account associated with the order, including spam and junk folders, for GameStop messages about confirmation, payment, delay or cancellation.
- If the account and email do not resolve the status, contact GameStop support with the order details and ask whether the order is active, delayed, canceled or awaiting payment action.
GameStop’s help center has general guidance titled “Why is My Order Delayed?” and “Buy Online Pickup In-Store Preorders – How They Work.” The delay guidance says preorders ship on or after the official release date and recommends checking GameStop email for payment issues. The reviewed pages were last updated April 23, 2026 and October 1, 2026, respectively. They explain processes; they are not an order lookup and cannot confirm a buyer’s live status.

Were Switch 2 preorders at stores forced into bundles?
That was a separate issue from online checkout and confirmation delays. On April 29, 2025, GameSpot reported customer allegations that staff at certain GameStop locations pressured shoppers to add games, accessories, warranties or a Pro membership to preorder a console. Its report covered a complaint about the Astoria, New York location, including a video and account posted by Twitch streamer Elea Tsentzelis. GameSpot said a GameStop support account was “actively investigating” the complaint and quoted it: “Any customer who was turned away at the Astoria location should reach out via DM so we can make it right.”
GameSpot also reported that some customers said they successfully ordered a console alone at other stores. The available reporting does not establish a chain-wide bundle requirement. A store-conduct complaint is not evidence that an online order is canceled or delayed; handle those as separate questions.

When should you contact GameStop?
Contact support if the order record is missing or ambiguous, you received conflicting confirmation and cancellation messages, or an email asks you to resolve a payment issue. Include the order details and describe the exact message or status you see. For an alleged in-store bundle requirement, describe the location and what happened separately; the launch-era report does not establish what remedy applies in a current case.
