Yes—Gamma is a legitimate third-party PlayStation 1 emulator available through Apple’s iOS App Store. The official U.S. listing is Gamma – PS 1 Game Emulator, published by ZODTTD LLC. It is free to download, but the free version includes advertising and optional in-app purchases. Gamma does not include commercial games or proprietary PlayStation BIOS files, so you must import content you are authorized to use.
What Gamma actually emulates
Gamma is designed for the original Sony PlayStation, commonly called the PS1 or PSone. It is not a general PlayStation emulator: it does not emulate PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PSP or PlayStation Vita games.

How to download Gamma safely
- Open the official App Store listing.
- Confirm that the app name is Gamma – PS 1 Game Emulator.
- Verify that the seller is ZODTTD LLC and that the App Store identifier is
6499106870. - Tap Get and authenticate with Apple.
- Launch Gamma and import your own compatible game files.
Do not use websites offering “Gamma APK” files, random IPA downloads, ROM bundles or BIOS downloads. APK files are for Android, not iOS, and unofficial downloads may be unsafe, misleading or infringing. App Store availability may also differ by country, so search your local storefront and verify the developer rather than relying on an imitation app.
Does Gamma include PlayStation games?
No. Installing Gamma does not give you a library of commercial PlayStation games. Gamma’s terms also state that it does not supply proprietary PlayStation BIOS files. You are responsible for obtaining games, BIOS files, artwork and other content lawfully in your jurisdiction.
Emulation software and copyrighted game files are separate legal issues. Rules concerning personal backups, copying discs and BIOS extraction vary by location. Use only content you are authorized to possess and use, and do not treat the existence of an App Store emulator as permission to download copyrighted games from unauthorized sources.

How to import a PS1 game into Gamma
Using the Files app
Gamma’s official importing guide documents this route:
- Open Files on your iPhone or iPad.
- Locate the compatible game file.
- Touch and hold the file.
- Tap Share.
- Select Gamma from the share sheet.
The guide specifically lists .bin/.cue, .iso and .img examples. If Gamma does not appear in the share sheet, confirm that the file is accessible locally or through a supported Files location, then try opening the share sheet again.
Using Finder or iTunes
- Connect the iPhone or iPad to a Mac or PC.
- On macOS Catalina or later, open Finder. On older systems, use iTunes.
- Select the connected device.
- Open its Files section.
- Drag the game files into Gamma’s document folder.
Using cloud storage
You can upload an authorized game file to iCloud Drive or another supported cloud provider, open it in the Files app, and share it to Gamma. Gamma also advertises synchronization through Google Drive and Dropbox for selected emulator data, but cloud synchronization is optional.

The App Store description lists support for formats including:

The official importing guide documents BIN/CUE, ISO and IMG most directly. Format support can depend on the Gamma version, the particular file, whether the archive is compressed, and whether a feature is limited to Gamma Pro. The presence of a format in the App Store description is not a guarantee that every file using that extension will boot correctly.
Important BIN/CUE detail
Keep a BIN file and its matching CUE sheet together. The CUE file contains references to the associated track files; if filenames or locations do not match, Gamma may fail to identify the game or may show a black screen. Multidisc games should likewise retain all required disc images and be imported in a way Gamma can recognize.
Do you need a BIOS?
There is no universal yes-or-no answer. Gamma does not ship with proprietary PlayStation BIOS files. Some games or configurations may work without one, while others may require or benefit from a compatible BIOS. Gamma’s App Store notes indicate that fewer games need a BIOS in newer updates, while also mentioning BIOS synchronization.
A missing or incorrect BIOS can cause a game not to boot, display incorrectly or behave unpredictably. If you need one, obtain it through a lawful method applicable to your situation. Do not use unauthorized BIOS repositories or assume that one BIOS file works identically for every game, region or Gamma version.

Feature availability can vary by app version, device, game format and paid tier. For example, the App Store’s version history has associated some archive-import functionality, such as 7z support, with Gamma Pro. Enhancements are also optional: if a game glitches, disable high-resolution rendering, widescreen modes, shaders or geometry corrections before concluding that the game image itself is unusable.
Touch controls and physical controllers
Touch controls are adequate for menus, turn-based games and occasional play. A physical controller is usually preferable for platformers, racing games, fighting games and titles that depend on analog input.
Gamma advertises compatibility with console, PC Bluetooth and MFi controllers, as well as wired controllers and keyboards. Pair a controller in iOS Bluetooth settings before launching the game, then check Gamma’s mapping screen. Analog sticks may need to be assigned to a game’s analog controls. No emulator can guarantee perfect compatibility with every accessory or game.
How saves work
Gamma supports both original-style memory-card saves and emulator save states.
- Memory-card saves: Created through the game’s own save system and closest to the original console experience. They are generally the better choice for important, portable progress.
- Save states: Convenient snapshots that let you resume almost anywhere, but which can be more sensitive to emulator versions, changed settings and different game images.
- Cloud synchronization: Optional synchronization can move selected emulator data between devices through connected services such as Google Drive or Dropbox.
Back up important memory cards and save states before changing emulator settings, replacing a game image, moving to another device or deleting the app. Gamma’s privacy policy says game files, BIOS files, memory cards, save states and related data normally remain on the device unless you intentionally use a feature such as Gamma Sync, a community submission or an applicable support attachment.
Is Gamma free?
Gamma is free to download, but the U.S. App Store listing shows advertising and in-app purchases. A purchase listed as Gamma Pro – Remove Ads was shown at $4.99 in the U.S. storefront when checked in August 2026. The listing also showed voluntary supporter purchases at $0.99, $1.99, $4.99 and $9.99.

Those are U.S. price snapshots, not a permanent worldwide price. Apple may display different prices because of country, taxes or later changes. Gamma Pro should not be described as a subscription unless Apple’s current purchase sheet explicitly says it is one. Purchase duration, renewal, cancellation and refund conditions are governed by the offer Apple shows at checkout.

It is less important if you are only testing the emulator or your main concern is whether a particular game is compatible.
Privacy and cloud synchronization
Gamma’s privacy policy is more specific than a generic “no data” claim. Depending on the feature and region, the app may process app and device information, operating-system information, locale, pseudonymous installation or customer identifiers, diagnostics, purchase information and advertising-related information.
The free version may display advertising supplied through Appodeal and other mediation partners. Advertising partners may process information such as IP address, advertising or device identifiers, app interactions and ad interactions, subject to regional consent requirements and Apple’s App Tracking Transparency rules.
Playing a game does not by itself mean that your game files or BIOS files are automatically uploaded. However, connecting Google Drive or Dropbox means selected emulator data can be stored or retrieved through those services. Community downloads and submissions also introduce additional licensing, privacy and safety considerations.
Common problems and fixes
The game does not appear after import
- Confirm that the file was actually shared to Gamma.
- Extract unsupported archives before importing, unless your version supports that archive type.
- Keep a CUE sheet and all referenced BIN files together.
- For a multidisc title, verify that every disc image is present and correctly identified.
- Try a compatible format documented by Gamma if you have an authorized copy in another format.
- Reimport the file if Gamma’s library did not refresh.
The game shows a black screen or crashes
- Disable widescreen, shaders, high-resolution rendering and other optional enhancements.
- Try any available compatibility or legacy mode.
- Check whether the game needs a BIOS.
- Confirm that the image is complete and not damaged.
- Try the game without custom patches or compression.
- Update Gamma and iOS or iPadOS.
Gamma’s terms do not guarantee compatibility with every game or file. If the problem persists, use the app’s bug-report feature and include the game name and Gamma version. Diagnostics may include information such as version, game identifier, file type and whether a BIOS is present.

A save disappeared
Check whether you launched a different copy of the game, used a save state from another image, moved or overwrote the memory-card file, disconnected cloud synchronization or deleted the app before backing up. For important progress, rely on in-game memory-card saves, export or back up the card, and treat save states as a convenience rather than your only backup.
The controller does not work
- Pair it in iOS Bluetooth settings before opening the game.
- Reopen Gamma after pairing.
- Check the emulator’s controller mapping.
- Test touch controls to distinguish an accessory problem from a game problem.
- Update both Gamma and iOS or iPadOS.
- Try another supported controller if available.

Gamma is a sensible choice for an iPhone or iPad owner who wants a straightforward, no-jailbreak route to PlayStation 1 emulation.
