The available reporting does not establish whether every targeted item has since been removed.
What Facepunch announced
In a Steam announcement dated April 24, 2024, Facepunch said some Nintendo-related Workshop items had recently been removed and that “the takedowns came from Nintendo.” It characterized the cleanup as “an ongoing process” because the team had “20 years of uploads to go through.” Read Facepunch’s Steam announcement.
Facepunch asked users to remove Nintendo-related uploads of their own and not upload them again. It also wrote, “Honestly, this is fair enough. This is Nintendo’s content and what they allow and don’t allow is up to them.” The announcement described the scope as Nintendo-related content; it did not say that all Workshop content, or all items associated with other rights holders, would be removed.
Were the takedown requests really from Nintendo?
Facepunch attributed the requests to Nintendo in its announcement. On April 25, PC Gamer reported Garry Newman saying Valve legal had confirmed the reports with Nintendo: “Valve legal is adamant that they confirmed these reports as legit with Nintendo.” On April 26, Newman said, “I have been assured that the takedowns have been verified by Nintendo as legit, so this will now continue as planned. Sorry,” as reported by Nintendo Life.

That is the public account from Facepunch and Newman, not independent verification of the notice documents. TorrentFreak reported that the notices were not publicly shared, so outside observers could not examine their text directly. TorrentFreak’s report discusses that limitation.
Why did Nintendo act then?
Nintendo’s reason for making the requests is not established in the cited coverage. Newman did not know why the action happened at that time. PC Gamer reported that he speculated popular Mario videos might have “set off some alarms,” then qualified the idea with “Who knows.” That was a guess, not a confirmed explanation. How large was the cleanup?
Ars Technica reported that the Garry’s Mod Workshop contained more than 1.8 million add-ons in 2024. That figure gives a sense of the library Facepunch was dealing with; it is the total add-on count, not a count of Nintendo-related uploads or items subject to removal. Ars Technica’s coverage provides that scale context.

The cited statements establish that removals had begun and were ongoing in April 2024, but they do not establish that the process is complete. Nor do they identify every affected upload. It is therefore more accurate to say Facepunch announced an ongoing Nintendo-related takedown process than to claim that all Nintendo content has been removed.
