GamesBeat reported that nearly 30,000 people attended the 2024 Game Developers Conference, about 7% more than its reported 28,000 attendees in 2023. Those are rounded reported figures, not an exact audited count. GDC ran March 18–22 at Moscone Center in San Francisco.
How many people attended GDC 2024?
GamesBeat’s March 27, 2024 event report put attendance at nearly 30,000. It also reported more than 1,000 speakers, 325 exhibitors, and 730 lectures, summits, and roundtables. These figures describe the scale of the conference as reported by GamesBeat; they are not an audited attendance tally. Read the GamesBeat report.
Was GDC 2024 bigger than GDC 2023?
Yes. GamesBeat compared the nearly 30,000 attendees in 2024 with 28,000 reported for 2023, describing the increase as about 7%. Because both attendance totals are rounded, the change is best understood as an approximate year-over-year comparison rather than a precise calculation.
Where and when was the conference held?
GDC 2024 took place March 18–22 at Moscone Center in San Francisco. Before the conference, San Francisco Travel also said nearly 30,000 attendees were expected; that was a forecast, not a separate post-event confirmation of the final count. The organization estimated the event would generate $40.6 million in local economic impact, also a pre-event projection rather than a reported realized result. San Francisco Travel’s March 15 preview gives the event details and estimates.

Attendance is separate from GDC’s developer survey
GDC’s State of the Game Industry survey page says organizers surveyed more than 3,000 developers. Its highlights include ethical concerns about generative AI, worries about layoffs, game adaptations, and accessibility measures. The survey sample is not a measure of conference attendance, and its findings should not be read as a head count. See GDC’s survey page.
GDC event director Stephenie Hawkins told GamesBeat: “GDC exists to give developers a space to meet, network and learn. The need for that connection has never been more urgent.”
