E-Day is set fourteen years before the first Gears of War. It follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago during the first Locust Horde assault, framing the game as the event that establishes the series’ central conflict rather than as another chapter in an already familiar war. The tone is deliberately dark and immediate. The Emergence Day setting puts civilians, soldiers and familiar locations under sudden pressure, so the campaign’s appeal comes from close-quarters danger, cover decisions and the relationship between the two protagonists. If you want a shooter that tells you where to go and why the next fight matters, E-Day is the more decisive opening choice.
How the shooting and movement work
The Coalition built E-Day in Unreal Engine 5 and describes a modernized movement system with jumping, vaulting, sliding and flanking. Those additions sit on top of the series’ cover-shooter foundation: positioning behind cover, exposing yourself for a controlled burst, moving to a better angle and coordinating with teammates. Compatible displays are targeted at 4K resolution and up to 60 frames per second; the exact result depends on the Xbox or PC hardware and display settings you use.
This is a game for players who enjoy making decisions during fights rather than simply pointing and firing. A strong first session comes from learning when to hold cover, when to vault forward and when a flank is safer than a direct push. You can play the campaign alone, in two-player console split-screen or with up to four players online. Solo play keeps the story under your control. Split-screen is the unusual advantage for an Xbox household that wants to play in the same room without buying a second console. Online groups can bring more friends into the campaign, making the missions a shared progression rather than a one-player experience with occasional assistance.
Choose the format before you start if your group has a fixed schedule. A solo run is easiest to continue at your own pace; a co-op run is more satisfying when everyone agrees on a regular session, because the campaign’s tension depends on moving through encounters together.
Why E-Day can last beyond the campaign
E-Day’s multiplayer is not limited to repeating story missions. Horde Siege is a 12-player player-versus-environment mode in which three squads defend Kalona. Versus adds four-versus-four player-versus-player matches on new maps. That mode provides a different reason to keep playing after the campaign: learning sightlines, improving movement and building a preferred competitive setup. Between campaign replay, Horde Siege and Versus customization and ranks, E-Day has a substantial post-campaign package, but its identity remains combat-first rather than open-ended exploration.

What kind of game is Forza Horizon 6?
Japan as an open-world playground
Forza Horizon 6 starts you as a tourist in Japan and gradually turns you into a Horizon competitor. Playground Games describes the map as the largest in the Horizon series yet, combining rural and urban areas, multiple biomes, seasonal changes and significant verticality. Tokyo City is described as five times larger than Forza Horizon 5’s Guanajuato, giving the urban portion enough scale to feel like a destination rather than a short showcase route.
The map is the main reason to choose Forza first. You can follow events, ignore them and explore, use roads as a test track for a new tune, or change direction whenever a different landscape catches your attention. Seasons and elevation alter how routes feel, so the same car can produce a different experience depending on the surface, weather and part of Japan you are visiting.
Progression from tourist to Horizon Legend
The campaign begins with Horizon Qualifiers and Wristbands. Earning the Gold Wristband unlocks access to Legend Island, giving progression a clear long-term destination while preserving the freedom to choose activities along the way. You are not forced into a single race discipline: the progression framework sits over road racing, off-road driving, exploration and social events.
This makes Forza Horizon 6 easy to play in short or long sessions. A 20-minute visit can mean one event or a quick drive through Tokyo; a longer session can involve improving a build, completing several championships and meeting friends for shared activities. The game’s structure rewards curiosity more than strict mission order.
Cars, tuning and driving detail
At launch, the roster contains more than 550 cars. Those details matter most if you enjoy making a car feel like your own. You can keep a favorite model close to its original character, build it for a particular surface or tune it around a preferred driving style. The large roster also changes the rhythm of progression: unlocking a car is an invitation to test another approach, not merely a higher number on a garage screen.
Social activities and creative tools
Forza Horizon 6’s multiplayer is designed for groups that may not all want the same challenge. Convoys let friends travel together, while Car Meets provide a low-pressure place to show vehicles. Solo players: which game is the better first commitment?
Choose E-Day for a beginning-to-end objective
E-Day is the better solo starting point if you want a campaign that establishes its premise quickly and keeps the next objective visible. The Marcus-and-Dom origin story, cover combat and escalating Locust threat give each session narrative purpose. You can stop after a mission and return knowing what kind of experience you are continuing.
Its limitation for a solo player is also its strength: it does not try to be an everything-at-once sandbox. If you want to wander, collect and optimize without a defined endpoint, another game will fit better.

Choose Forza for self-directed sessions
Forza Horizon 6 is the better solo starting point when your ideal session changes from day to day. You can race, explore, tune, collect, build an EventLab activity or simply drive through a different biome. The game supplies goals through Wristbands and Horizon Qualifiers, but it does not require you to treat every activity as a checklist.
The trade-off is that a player seeking a strong authored plot may find the open structure less urgent. Forza’s satisfaction comes from accumulating experiences and improving your garage rather than reaching a single dramatic conclusion.
Playing with friends: combat team or driving group?
When E-Day is the right co-op choice
Pick E-Day for friends who want communication to affect survival. Campaign co-op asks players to move through the same dangerous spaces, Horde Siege divides defense across three squads, and Versus rewards teams that understand angles and timing. The game suits a group that prefers a shared objective, clear roles and the excitement of coordinated firefights.
Its split-screen support also makes it the practical choice for a local Xbox gathering. Two people can play on one console, while larger groups can use online play.
When Forza is the right social choice
Pick Forza Horizon 6 when your group wants to socialize without requiring everyone to perform at the same intensity. A convoy can become a road trip, a Car Meet can focus on presentation, and shared events can provide competition without locking the whole session into one campaign mission. EventLab and Horizon CoLab are especially strong for groups that enjoy making their own challenges.
Forza’s documented feature set is centered on online and shared-world play; it is not presented as a local split-screen game. If everyone will be on separate consoles or PCs, that distinction is less important. If you need same-screen play, E-Day has the explicit advantage.

Forza driving hardware
Forza Horizon 6 is the better match for an Xbox-compatible racing wheel, shifter or cockpit. The documented steering support, cockpit awareness and broad driving activity list give dedicated hardware a clear use case. A wheel is not necessary—controller play remains the standard entry point—but it can make long driving sessions and technical events more immersive.
Choose hardware based on your space and habits. A full cockpit is appropriate only if you can leave it assembled; a wheel that clamps to a desk is easier to store. There is no need to buy an accessory before deciding whether Forza’s driving loop holds your attention.
