Calling Gears of War: E-Day a Steam launch flop is not supported by the available player-count data: SteamDB recorded a peak of 31,517 concurrent players on October 7, 2026, the day after its public launch. That number measures people playing at the same time, not copies sold or revenue. And while PS5 players may want a port, Xbox’s launch materials list no PS5 version or announcement.
What do E-Day’s Steam launch numbers actually show?
SteamDB reported an all-time peak of 31,517 concurrent players on October 7, 2026. The figure is a meaningful sign of launch-day activity on Steam, but it cannot establish whether the game sold well: concurrent players are not sales, revenue, or the total audience across platforms. SteamDB’s charts are a third-party tracker, and its figures can change over time.

Those are time-sensitive review metrics, not a substitute for sales data or a universal measure of commercial success. No sales or revenue figure is established by the sources available here.
Why Steam alone can’t tell the whole story
E-Day launched worldwide on October 6, 2026, at 15:00 UTC. Early Access began October 1 at 15:00 UTC for Premium Edition players and qualifying Game Pass subscribers, so activity from October 1 belongs to the Early Access period rather than the general release. Windows Central reported around 20,000 concurrent Steam users during Early Access and said the game was Steam’s top-selling title in the United States ahead of public launch. That pre-launch report still does not disclose revenue or total sales.

Steam is only one way to play. Xbox lists the game for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam, and says it is included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Players accessing it through Game Pass are not necessarily represented by Steam’s player chart. Xbox’s game page and the October 1 Xbox Wire launch announcement give the official platform and access details.
Is a PS5 port announced?
No PS5 version or port appears in the official launch and platform materials cited above. Windows Central described the announced console lineup as Xbox-exclusive in a June 7, 2026 report, but that describes the lineup announced at that time; it does not prove that a future port can never happen. No confirmed PS5 plan, release window, or port strategy is established.

So “Get that PS5 port ready” is a request, not news of an impending release. A PS5 edition would broaden access for players who do not use Xbox or PC, but there is no announcement to support a claim that one is in development.

Developed by The Coalition and published by Xbox Game Studios, Gears of War: E-Day is an origin story set fourteen years before the original Gears of War, following Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust Horde emerges. Xbox describes a solo campaign, two-player split-screen, online co-op for up to four players, Horde Siege PvE, and Versus PvP. Those modes help explain the game’s broad audience, but they do not change what Steam concurrency can—and cannot—prove about sales.
