Lie of Caelum: Spirit is a forthcoming sci-fi mecha JRPG built with RPG Maker MZ, an engine more commonly associated with accessible, event-driven RPG creation. GamesRadar reports that the game features 3D mech exploration and combat, but the article does not explain the technical methods behind those scenes. The achievement is striking; the implementation remains a mystery.
What is Lie of Caelum: Spirit?
Lie of Caelum: Spirit is an upcoming single-player, turn-based sci-fi RPG from developer Classi5ed. GamesRadar describes it as drawing inspiration from the PSX era, Xenogears and Phantasy Star. Its premise combines travel on foot with piloting a mech, alongside story-focused play, side quests and minigames. The official Steam listing also describes timed-input combat, perfect guards, role-based strategy, equipment that can change playstyle, and Link Catalysts.

The game is the expanded follow-up to Lie of Caelum, a smaller free game released on Steam in 2022. GamesRadar reports that the original project’s reception helped encourage Classi5ed to make Spirit.
Why does RPG Maker MZ make the game surprising?
GamesRadar reports that Spirit was made in RPG Maker MZ, the 2020 release of the RPG Maker series. The engine is known for making RPG development accessible through tools such as maps, character stats and an eventing system. Steam’s standard description of that workflow, quoted by GamesRadar, says: “Making an RPG is as easy as putting in the stats for your heroes and villains, drawing up some maps, and using a simple eventing system to drive the story to its finale!”

That familiar 2D, event-oriented image is a sharp contrast with the 3D mech presentation shown for Spirit. In an older social post accompanying footage of exploration both on foot and in a mech, Classi5ed wrote: “I want to see your face when I tell you this was made in RPG Maker MZ.” A social-media reaction relayed by GamesRadar put the surprise more bluntly: “3D mech combat in RPG maker????? God’s strongest programmer.”
The point is not that RPG Maker MZ makes this kind of game impossible. Rather, the project appears to push well beyond what players may expect from the engine’s most familiar workflow. GamesRadar highlights the developer’s technical skill, but does not explain the plugins, custom code or other techniques used to create the 3D scenes and transitions. Those implementation details are not established by the available accounts.
What does the game show or promise?
GamesRadar describes exploration on foot and in a mech, with transitions between the two, as well as turn-based combat and side activities including racing, a card game and fishing. The Steam listing emphasizes timed inputs, perfect guards, role-based tactical choices, adaptable equipment, quests and minigames. These descriptions outline the intended variety, but they do not establish how much content will be in the finished release.
A September 2026 Steam Community post from Classi5ed said a demo was in development and would include the Zero Frame Racing minigame and a boss. That announcement is not confirmation that the demo is currently available.

- Small board footprint with quick-but-deep gameplay: Each game plays in under 2 hours and takes place on a single 17” x 22” board.
What do the Kickstarter numbers mean?
GamesRadar reports that the Kickstarter campaign sought $34,000 and raised more than $147,000. The campaign pitched “60+ hours of main campaign” and “20+ hours of meaningful side content.” These are campaign funding and scope claims, not measured playtime or proof of the amount of content ultimately delivered.
The campaign’s official FAQ, updated September 10, 2026, says the base game is funded regardless of stretch goals. Switch 2 and Xbox ports are different: those versions depend on their respective stretch goals and should be treated as contingent, not confirmed releases.
When can you play it?
The Steam store page labels Lie of Caelum: Spirit “Coming soon”; it does not provide a release date in the cited listing. The safest expectation is to treat the game as forthcoming and check the official Steam page for current availability. The developer’s September 2026 demo announcement describes plans, not a currently playable demo.
