Gears of War: Reloaded, a remaster of the original Gears of War, launched on PlayStation 5 on August 26, 2025. It is the first game modernized for current platforms—not a new mainline sequel—and it supports cross-play and cross-progression.
What is Gears of War: Reloaded?
Gears of War: Reloaded brings the original game to modern platforms as a remaster. Xbox describes it as including the full breadth of content from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, but that wording does not mean it is a new story chapter. Xbox’s announcement framed the release as an updated version of the first game.

When did it arrive on PlayStation, and what platforms have it?
The PS5 version launched on August 26, 2025. Xbox’s launch-day announcement listed Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Steam and PlayStation 5. Xbox confirmed the game was out on those platforms on launch day; the PlayStation listing also gives the PS5 release date.
Can PS5 players use cross-play and shared progress?
Yes. Xbox announced cross-play and cross-progression across platforms, and PlayStation says players can squad up across platforms. In practical terms, a PS5 owner can play with friends on supported other platforms, while cross-progression is intended to carry progress across platform versions. These announcements do not establish current matchmaking conditions, player counts or server health.

What does the PS5 version add for DualSense?
PlayStation’s listing names three DualSense features: haptic feedback, support for the controller speaker and adaptive triggers. These are game-specific controller integrations; the listing does not say that a new controller is required.
How much does it cost, and is it on Game Pass?
Xbox announced a $39.99 suggested retail price in May 2025. That was the launch SRP, not a current price quote; check the PlayStation Store or your local retailer for today’s price.

At launch, Xbox listed access through PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate. That is historical launch information, not confirmation that the game remains in either subscription catalog today. Check the current catalog for your region before relying on subscription access.
Was there a free upgrade for earlier owners?
A limited offer applied to people who purchased the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition before 16:00 UTC on May 5, 2025. The offer’s deadline has passed, and it was not a general free copy for all owners. Xbox’s launch-day article quotes Coalition studio head Mike Crump describing the offer.

Is there a PS5 disc edition?
The official Xbox and PlayStation pages cited here do not establish whether a physical PS5 edition is available. If you specifically want a disc, check a current regional PlayStation or retailer listing before buying.
