When did the beta run, and who could join?
The Coalition announced two cross-platform, cross-play beta weekends: June 13–15 and June 20–22, 2025. The first was scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. UTC on Friday, June 13, and end at 7 p.m. UTC on Sunday, June 15. The second was scheduled for the same hours the following weekend. The beta’s announced access routes were:
- A digital preorder of Gears of War: Reloaded on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam or PlayStation 5.
- An active Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass membership.
- A digital copy of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition purchased before May 5, 2025, at 16:00 UTC.
Because this was a scheduled, access-limited event, eligibility and account sign-in were relevant checks at the time. The published rules do not establish that an eligibility problem caused any particular connection complaint.
Why couldn’t some players connect?
The available official announcements do not give a root cause for the reported beta connection problems. They also do not provide an affected-player count, a platform-by-platform breakdown or evidence that every report described the same failure. “Massive” therefore should not be read as a verified measure of the issue’s scale.

Connection trouble can involve different parts of the process, but those are diagnostic categories, not confirmed explanations for this beta’s complaints:
- Access and sign-in: whether the account met the beta’s eligibility rules and could authenticate.
- Platform network: whether Xbox, Steam or PlayStation network services were available.
- Game online services: whether Gears services were reachable.
- Matchmaking: whether the game could find or connect players to a session.
The sources establish the eligibility routes and subsequent online-service changes, but do not assign the historical reports to any one of these categories.

Did the developers address the problems?
In an August 22, 2025 announcement, the official Gears of War Steam feed said launch improvements drew on “technical observations and community feedback” from the Multiplayer Beta. The listed changes included general stability and cross-platform improvements, more dedicated servers and scaled online services, and improvements to cross-platform squad matchmaking. That update shows that stability, online-service capacity and matchmaking were among the areas improved for launch. It does not say that one particular beta incident caused those changes, identify the precise failure behind a player’s inability to connect, or quantify how many people were affected.

Are Gears of War: Reloaded servers down now?
The beta has ended, so its June 2025 connection reports cannot be used to establish the game’s current service status. The live Gears of War status page displayed “Unknown” under Online Services and no last-updated value when checked. That is inconclusive: it neither confirms an outage nor proves the services are working normally.
If you are having a problem with the current game, check the relevant platform’s network status and the game’s official support or status channels. Without a current, specific service notice, the historical beta updates cannot diagnose today’s problem.

Is there a confirmed fix for the beta connection reports?
No specific hardware purchase or settings change is established as a fix for the beta reports. The official material describes later service and matchmaking improvements, not a player-side remedy. Since the beta is over, changing a router, buying a controller or headset, or installing a cleanup utility would not restore access to that event.
