The problems widely reported in the sources available here came later, after the game launched on August 26—not during the June beta. Those launch reports covered Steam crashes, matchmaking, preorder-skin access and a complaint about split-screen co-op on PC.
When did the Gears of War: Reloaded beta take place?
The Coalition announced two cross-platform, cross-play beta weekends: June 13–15 and June 20–22, 2025. The announcement came from Mike Crump, studio head at The Coalition. Xbox Wire’s announcement described the beta as a multiplayer test, not a report of technical problems.
Access was announced for people who digitally preordered the game, Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass members, and eligible owners of a digital copy of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.
What was playable?
The first weekend featured Team Deathmatch on Gridlock, Raven Down and Gold Rush. The second weekend added King of the Hill on Canals, alongside Team Deathmatch on Courtyard and War Machine.

What problems were reported—and when?
Gears of War: Reloaded launched on August 26, 2025. In coverage published the following day, GameSpot reported Steam launch crashes, matchmaking problems, missing preorder skins and complaints about the absence of split-screen co-op on PC. The report said Microsoft was investigating crashes, matchmaking and skin access.
These are reports about the August launch period. They do not establish that the same problems affected the June beta, and the available reporting does not quantify how many players experienced them.

Steam crashes and preorder skins
An August 29 update note said Steam launch crashes had been addressed and access to the Adam Fenix and Anya Stroud preorder skins had been restored. The team also said it would continue monitoring Steam player feedback. SteamDB’s reproduction of the update note records those specific fixes.
Matchmaking and PC split-screen complaints
The August 27 report included matchmaking complaints and criticism of the lack of split-screen co-op on PC. The August 29 note does not confirm that every matchmaking problem was resolved, and it does not establish a fix for the split-screen complaint. These should not be treated as confirmed beta issues.

Is Gears of War: Reloaded matchmaking down right now?
The dated reports above cannot establish whether matchmaking is down now. They describe launch-period events in August 2025, not the game’s live server status on October 8, 2026. The sources available for this article do not provide a current official service-status report, so they cannot verify a present outage.
For a current answer, check the game’s official Xbox or Gears of War support channels and the platform you play on. A past matchmaking complaint is not evidence of a current outage.
