Gears of War: Reloaded launched on August 26, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5 and Steam. The remaster brings back the 2006 third-person shooter with its post-launch campaign and multiplayer content, plus platform-specific features. Here’s what to know about access, co-op, cross-play and PC requirements.
Release date and platforms
Xbox confirmed that Gears of War: Reloaded was available on August 26, 2025. The game launched on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5 and Steam. Xbox’s launch-day announcement and its product page list the Xbox options, while the PlayStation and Steam listings confirm those versions.

What is Gears of War: Reloaded?
It is a remaster of the original Gears of War, which Xbox says first released in 2006. The story follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as they fight the Locust threat. Reloaded includes the original game’s post-launch content: a bonus campaign act, multiplayer maps and modes, classic characters and cosmetics. Xbox says controls have been modernized while retaining the classic feel. Xbox’s announcement describes the package and its additions.
Campaign co-op, Versus and cross-play
Campaign supports two-player co-op, including split-screen, and Versus supports up to eight players. Cross-play allows players on different platforms to play together. Xbox’s launch-day guidance says every member of a cross-platform Versus party must be signed into a Microsoft account. Microsoft-account sign-in is also needed for cross-progression and cross-platform party invitations. PlayStation’s product listing describes split-screen co-op and says online console multiplayer requires PlayStation Plus, sold separately.

Game Pass, purchase and historical launch pricing
At launch, Xbox listed the game with PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate. Xbox also announced a $39.99 suggested retail price for the August 2025 launch. Both are historical launch terms, not confirmation of today’s Game Pass catalog or current purchase price; check the relevant store before buying. Xbox’s current product page is the place to check current access details.
There was also a limited free-upgrade offer: Xbox said players who had purchased the digital Xbox version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition before 16:00 UTC on May 5, 2025, would receive Reloaded at no additional cost. That cutoff does not apply to later purchases or all owners.

Performance and platform features
Xbox announced 4K resolution, 60 frames per second in Campaign and 120 frames per second in multiplayer, alongside HDR, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, 7.1 spatial audio, variable refresh rate, remastered textures and 4K assets, improved post-processing, shadows and reflections, and no loading screens during Campaign. These are publisher-listed capabilities, not a guarantee that every platform, display or hardware configuration will deliver every feature. Xbox’s announcement gives the feature details.
On PS5, the PlayStation listing highlights DualSense haptic feedback, controller speaker support and adaptive triggers; the PlayStation Store page also mentions PS5 Pro enhancements. Steam lists ultrawide support, benchmark mode, variable refresh rate, mouse-and-keyboard support, FSR 3.1, DLSS 3.5 Super Resolution and controller remapping.
