NVIDIA’s Windows 10 64-bit listing includes models from the GeForce 10, 900, 700, 600, 500, and 400 series, along with listed TITAN products. Examples include the GTX 1080 Ti, GTX 1080, GTX 1070, GTX 1060, GTX 1050 Ti, GTX 1050, GTX 980 Ti, GTX 970, GTX 780, GTX 750 Ti, GTX 680, GTX 580, GTX 560, GTX 480, and GTX 460. Listed TITAN models include TITAN Xp, TITAN X (Pascal), TITAN X, TITAN Black, TITAN Z, and the original GeForce GTX TITAN.
Check the complete NVIDIA model list rather than assuming that every desktop, mobile, or OEM variant in a product family is supported.

Desktop, notebook, and Quadro differences
- Desktop GeForce card: The standard GeForce package is generally the relevant download when the exact model appears on NVIDIA’s list.
- Notebook GPU: NVIDIA describes its notebook package as a reference driver. Check the laptop manufacturer first, especially if the system uses Optimus, display switching, custom power management, or unusual external-display hardware. See NVIDIA’s notebook driver guidance.
- Quadro or workstation GPU: Do not install the GeForce package simply because the number is similar. NVIDIA published a separate Quadro R381 U1 driver.
Should you install 381.65 today?

The advantage of 381.65 is historical compatibility. The cost is that it lacks fixes and optimizations released after April 2017 and may not support newer GPUs, Windows builds, or games. An old driver can also create compatibility and security concerns on an internet-connected system.
How to install GeForce 381.65
- Identify the GPU: Press Windows+X, open Device Manager, expand Display adapters, and record the exact model. You can also run
dxdiagand check the Display tab. - Check Windows architecture: Open Settings → System → About → System type. Alternatively, run
winverto identify the Windows release, then confirm whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit. - Download the matching NVIDIA package: Use the official links above. Confirm the product, operating system, language, and architecture on the result page.
- Prepare a recovery option: Save open work, close games and GPU utilities, and create a restore point or preserve the currently working driver. Notebook users should obtain the OEM driver first.
- Run the installer: Launch the downloaded NVIDIA executable, allow it to extract its files, accept the license, and follow the setup wizard. If Custom/Advanced installation is available, it provides more control. Use Perform a clean installation when resetting an existing driver is appropriate, but do not treat it as a guaranteed fix.
- Restart Windows: Reboot when setup finishes.
- Verify the result: Open Device Manager → Display adapters → your NVIDIA GPU → Properties → Driver. The installed version should identify the display driver as 381.65. You can also check NVIDIA Control Panel’s system information or the Display tab in
dxdiag.
The 2017 installer may not contain modern NVIDIA App options or current packaging components. The archive website’s present-day interface does not make the driver itself current.

Troubleshooting installation problems
“This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware”
Usually, the package does not match the system. Recheck the exact GPU model, Windows version, and 32-bit or 64-bit architecture. For a laptop or prebuilt computer, try the manufacturer’s driver. For a workstation card, use the Quadro or other professional package. NVIDIA’s Advanced Driver Search can narrow the result by product type, series, model, operating system, driver type, and language. Do not force-install an unrelated package just because it has the number 381.65.
The installer fails or an upgrade will not complete
Restart Windows, close overlays and GPU utilities, and retry with the standalone NVIDIA installer. A custom clean installation may help when an existing driver is damaged. A historical Reddit discussion reported upgrade problems involving GeForce Experience, but that is community evidence rather than confirmation of a universal NVIDIA defect.

Black screen or display problems
- Restart the computer.
- If Windows remains usable, open Device Manager and roll back or uninstall the display driver.
- If normal startup fails, use Windows Recovery Environment or Safe Mode.
- Restore the previous working driver or install the computer manufacturer’s package.
A reputable display-driver removal utility can be considered for difficult cases, but it is not required for every installation. Create a recovery option first and use forced or clean removal only when ordinary rollback does not resolve the problem.

File-size note
NVIDIA’s historical Windows 10 64-bit pages currently show different file-size figures for the same release: one reports 415.24 MB and another reports 435.41 MB. The Windows 7/8/8.1 listing also varies by localized page. Treat the size displayed on the official download page you actually use as authoritative rather than relying on a copied figure.
