If your immediate problem is a driver update, you can also search for and download a driver directly from NVIDIA.
First, identify what is failing
“GeForce Experience not working” can describe several different problems, and the right fix depends on which one you have. Is the app failing to open, unable to update drivers, failing during installation, or is a feature such as recording or the overlay affected? The official guidance does not establish one fix for all of these cases.
Before changing anything, note the exact error message, your Windows version, GPU model, GeForce Experience version, and whether the problem started after an update. These details help distinguish an app problem from a driver-installation or system-specific issue.
Should you switch from GeForce Experience to the NVIDIA app?
Yes, if you are still using GeForce Experience, NVIDIA directs remaining users to upgrade to the NVIDIA app. The company says some legacy versions cannot update automatically and that critical GeForce Experience web servers will be switched off “in the near future”; the notice does not specify when. Download the successor from NVIDIA’s upgrade page.

Moving to the NVIDIA app is the current NVIDIA-supported path, not a guaranteed fix for every underlying driver or Windows problem. If the same issue persists after upgrading, continue with the relevant steps below.
How to update a driver without GeForce Experience
- Open NVIDIA’s official driver search.
- Select your GPU and operating system carefully, then choose a compatible driver. Confirm the operating system and graphics hardware before downloading.
- Choose the driver track according to your main workload. Game Ready is aimed at gamers who prioritize support around game launches; Studio is aimed at reliability for creative workflows. NVIDIA says either track can run games and creative apps.
- Download the driver and run its installer. If installation fails, see NVIDIA’s installation-specific advice in the next section.

What to try if the driver installer fails
NVIDIA’s driver installation hints advise disabling download-accelerator utilities and not running antivirus software in the background during driver installation. Treat this as NVIDIA’s advice for this installation scenario, not a universal security recommendation or a guaranteed remedy. If your device is managed by an organization, follow its security policy before changing antivirus settings.
Can the NVIDIA app repair a driver?
The NVIDIA app can download and install drivers, switch between driver tracks, and reinstall a driver that was previously installed through the app. NVIDIA documents these features in its NVIDIA app overview. The reinstall control is specific to a driver installed through the app; do not assume it is available in legacy GeForce Experience.

For driver-level options, NVIDIA also points users to NVIDIA Control Panel’s Manage 3D Settings. Changing those settings is separate from repairing GeForce Experience itself.

If the current app path and applicable driver steps do not resolve the problem, use NVIDIA’s consumer support directory to find GeForce support, driver downloads, or community forums. Include the error message and the Windows, GPU, and app or driver details you recorded. That information makes it easier to narrow down a failure that does not have a single universal fix.
