They run while the service finds a server or processes a queue, not during gameplay. NVIDIA’s FAQ describes the policy, which its U.S. marketplace still labels as ad-supported.
When did GeForce NOW add ads?
NVIDIA dates the start of ads on its Free membership to March 5, 2024. That makes “NVIDIA adds two-minute ads” misleading if presented as a newly announced 2026 change. The company’s current U.S. marketplace continues to identify the Free plan as “GFN Free (Ad-Supported),” confirming that the policy remains in effect there. See the GeForce NOW FAQ and U.S. marketplace.
NVIDIA says the ads help support the no-cost tier and that it expects them to reduce average wait times over time. That is the company’s stated rationale, not a guarantee that queues will be shorter for every player or region.
How the pre-session ads work
- Select a supported game and start a Free session.
- GeForce NOW searches for a server or places you in a queue; video sponsorship messages can play during this process.
- The ad block can last up to two minutes per Free session. “Up to” is a maximum, not a promise that every session shows a full two minutes.
- When the server is ready and the session starts, the ads do not interrupt gameplay, according to NVIDIA.
The ad duration is separate from the queue. A two-minute ad limit does not mean the game will launch within two minutes: Free members may still wait longer when servers are busy.

Who sees the ads?
The policy applies to Free memberships. NVIDIA presents its premium memberships as the ad-free upgrade route; those tiers also offer features such as faster access, higher resolutions and longer sessions, with exact benefits depending on plan and availability. Compare the premium membership features and check the terms for your country before subscribing.
GeForce NOW connects to supported game stores and subscriptions, including Steam, Epic Games, GOG, PC Game Pass and Ubisoft Connect. A Free membership does not mean every game is included: you generally need access to the game through a supported store or subscription. See NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW overview.

What if an ad screen is stuck?
A blocker may prevent the session from launching rather than simply hide the ad. NVIDIA’s support guidance says a detected ad blocker can stop play and recommends disabling it or allowing geforcenow.com. Extensions or software that block video or autoplay may also leave an ad-loading screen gray or prevent launch. Follow NVIDIA’s ad-blocker troubleshooting guidance.
- Allow
geforcenow.comin the blocker, or disable the blocker for the service. - Temporarily disable extensions that block video or autoplay, then try starting the session again.
- If the ad finishes but the game does not launch, allow for an ordinary queue or server delay. Also check that the game and store account are supported and that your connection is working.
These are the supported practical options: let the ad load on Free, adjust software that prevents playback, or move to a premium membership. The sources do not establish that the ads are skippable.

What advertising information does NVIDIA describe?
NVIDIA’s FAQ says its ad-serving technology may use ad-view details such as type and duration, screen orientation, platform and browser information, approximate location derived from an IP address, and hashed IP-related data. The company also says users can opt in or out of interest-based advertising through the NVIDIA Privacy Center. Opting out changes the ads to non-interest-based advertising; it does not necessarily remove ads. NVIDIA says users under 16 cannot opt in to personalized ads. Applicable settings and practices may vary by geography, account age and privacy terms; consult the FAQ for its current explanation.
