Yes—GeForce NOW now has a native Linux desktop app, and NVIDIA says it officially left beta on August 13, 2026. The official Linux baseline is Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and later. Supported games can use cloud-rendered RTX features such as ray tracing and DLSS 4, so the Linux PC streams the game rather than needing a high-end GPU to render it locally.
What the Linux app does—and what it does not
GeForce NOW runs supported PC games on NVIDIA’s cloud servers and streams the video to your computer. Your Linux system still handles input and decodes that stream, but the game’s graphics are rendered remotely. NVIDIA introduced the native PC app in beta at CES 2026, then announced its graduation from beta on August 13, 2026. NVIDIA’s CES 2026 announcement described Linux access to cloud-delivered RTX features, including ray tracing and DLSS 4; the August 2026 launch update confirmed the app was out of beta.

Those features apply to supported games and are rendered in the cloud. They do not mean the local Linux GPU is running the game with ray tracing or DLSS. Your local hardware still needs to meet the video-decoding and driver requirements, and the network must sustain the selected stream.
Install the native app on Linux
NVIDIA’s official support baseline is Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and later. The company also provides a Flatpak installation route, but that packaging option does not establish official support for every Linux distribution. For the current installer and Flatpak instructions, use NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW download page; the exact commands and available files may change.

Use NVIDIA’s .bin installer
- Download the Linux
.bininstaller from NVIDIA’s download page. - In the file manager, open the file’s properties and allow it to run as a program, or use
chmod +x GeForceNOWSetup.binin a terminal. - Run the installer and follow its prompts.
Install through Flatpak
NVIDIA’s download page documents adding its official GeForce NOW Flatpak repository, installing com.nvidia.geforcenow, and launching that app ID. Follow the live page for the repository command and full sequence rather than relying on copied commands that may have become outdated.
The desktop Linux installer is separate from NVIDIA’s Steam Deck installation flow, which installs into Steam Library Gaming Mode. Use the path intended for your device.

Check hardware, drivers, membership and network requirements
NVIDIA’s Linux system requirements specify Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, a dual-core x86 or x64 CPU at 2.0 GHz or faster, 4 GB of system memory, and a modern GPU that supports Vulkan H.264 or H.265 video codecs. NVIDIA GPUs require driver 580.126.07 or later; NVIDIA says to reinstall the app after installing a new host driver. For Mesa-based Intel or AMD GPUs, NVIDIA recommends driver 24.2.8.
NVIDIA’s stated network thresholds vary with the selected stream mode. These are service requirements, not guarantees that a particular connection will deliver a stable result:

| Stream mode listed by NVIDIA | Recommended bandwidth |
|---|---|
| HD, up to 60 fps | 15 Mbps |
| FHD, 60 fps | 25 Mbps |
| QHD or UW QHD, 120 fps | 35 Mbps |
| 4K, 120 fps | 45 Mbps |
| QHD or FHD, 240 or 360 fps | 55 Mbps |
| 5K, 120 fps | 65 Mbps |
NVIDIA also specifies latency below 80 ms to a data center and recommends wired Ethernet or a 5 GHz Wi-Fi router. Its Linux support guidance says balanced mode needs wired Ethernet for 5K, 4K, UW QHD or QHD at 120 fps, and for any resolution at 240 or 360 fps. The app may lower streaming settings if its network test finds the connection cannot sustain the chosen display mode.
Understand the resolution and frame-rate ceilings
NVIDIA advertises up to 5K at 120 fps or 1080p at 360 fps for GeForce NOW. These are service ceilings, not universal Linux-app settings: the membership, GPU family, display and network all affect which modes are available. NVIDIA’s Linux support table separates supported modes by membership and client hardware, so check that matrix for your particular combination instead of assuming every Ubuntu PC can reach the headline maximum.

NVIDIA says a GeForce NOW Premium membership is required for features including 5K, 4K and UW streaming, NVIDIA RTX, and 120, 240 or 360 fps streaming on the native Linux PC app. The company’s requirements page and support matrix specify the relevant membership and GPU constraints; the advertised maximum alone does not establish eligibility.

NVIDIA’s current Linux support article lists these features as unavailable in the native app: HDR, AV1, Cloud G-Sync/VRR, surround sound, AI Scaling, video recording/Instant Replay, racing wheels, and flight controls/HOTAS. YUV444 support is limited to NVIDIA GPUs starting with Turing. These are time-sensitive product details; NVIDIA’s support page is the place to check for changes.

NVIDIA recommends a USB gaming mouse for use with the app. That is a practical accessory recommendation, not a requirement to install or run GeForce NOW, and NVIDIA does not identify a particular mouse model as certified.
Native app or browser?
The native Linux app has an official Ubuntu support baseline, dedicated installation routes, and a published Linux requirements and feature matrix. The available documentation cited here does not establish a complete current comparison with browser access, including browser resolution or frame-rate limits. Choose the native app if you want NVIDIA’s documented Linux desktop setup; do not assume browser capabilities match the app or its advertised ceilings.
