It is an exploration-focused adventure from Feral Cat Den, published by Fellow Traveller, with simple interactions and generative art. Its cosmic-noir premise is striking; whether its story and experimental pacing work for you depends on how much you enjoy interpreting images and ideas rather than following a plainly explained plot.
What kind of game is Genesis Noir?
Feral Cat Den describes Genesis Noir as “an adventure game with an emphasis on exploration, simple interactions, and generative art.” That description sets useful expectations: this is not primarily a test of reflexes or a demanding puzzle game. You explore unusual scenes, interact with objects and systems, and watch the game transform those interactions into surreal visual sequences. The design favors discovery and mood over elaborate controls.

The story follows No Man, a watch peddler caught in a cosmic love triangle. A jealous god fires a gunshot, and that shot is associated with the Big Bang. The game uses this premise to connect intimate drama with images of creation and the universe. It is a deliberately strange frame for an adventure, not a straightforward crime story despite its noir styling.
How does the gameplay and story feel?
Exploration and interaction
Expect simple, scene-specific interactions rather than a deep, consistently demanding puzzle system. The appeal is in trying things, noticing how a space responds, and seeing what visual idea comes next. That makes the game approachable for players who like exploratory adventures, but it may feel too slight if your priority is complex puzzle-solving or precise mechanical challenge.

Narrative clarity and pacing
Genesis Noir asks you to read its story through surreal imagery as much as direct explanation. The central love-triangle premise is identifiable, but its cosmic scale and abstract presentation can make character relationships or transitions feel elusive. That ambiguity can be part of the attraction if you enjoy making connections; if you want a tightly spelled-out plot, it is a meaningful caveat.
Visual and audio identity
The generative-art approach is central to the experience, not just a visual wrapper around conventional gameplay. Noir-inspired imagery and transformations give the game its distinctive character, while the soundtrack is also available as a separate digital extra. The experience is best approached as an audiovisual journey with interactive moments rather than as a traditional adventure whose main reward is solving a chain of intricate puzzles.

- Look and Feel - The game employs a unique hand-crafted art style, making use of line art, animation and a striking two-tone palette. The camera is a character in itself, sweeping over and zooming in and out of the environment to emphasize certain scenes and provide direction to the player. Meanwhile, Hauntii’s dynamic soundtrack sways and swells with the action on-screen, creating a captivating audiovisual experience.
- Haunt - As a ghost, use your haunting powers to command both creatures and the environment itself. Craft an array of solutions to puzzles, and devise various approaches to combat scenarios
- Explore & Collect - An expansive hand-crafted world, with tight yet open-ended environments. Whichever path you take, there'll always be something around the corner, waiting to be discovered. Build the Constellations and uncover the story of Hauntii's past life. Find the pieces you'll need by exploring, solving challenges, and trading with other ghosts.
- Relax - A twin-stick game like no other, Hauntii combines classic shooting action with a slower, more contemplative pace as you traverse the otherworldly landscapes of Eternity - all set to a richly textured soundtrack by Michael Kirby Ward.
- Languages – In-game text: English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese.
Is Genesis Noir worth playing?
It is a good fit for players drawn to experimental art direction, cosmic themes, and low-friction exploration. It is a less certain fit for anyone primarily seeking difficult puzzles, a transparent narrative, or action-heavy play. The key question is whether you enjoy the act of interpreting evocative scenes; the premise alone does not guarantee that the game’s abstract delivery will land for every player.
As a changing storefront snapshot, Steam showed 79% positive user reviews from 1,703 reviews when accessed October 8, 2026. That percentage is a moment-in-time user-review measure, not a permanent rating or a guarantee that the game will suit a particular player. Metacritic identifies PC, Xbox One, and Switch versions and gives March 26, 2021 as the initial release date; its PC metascore snapshot should not be treated as a current or cross-platform score.

What platforms can you play Genesis Noir on?
The official Genesis Noir website lists PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. Nintendo’s UK store lists the Switch version as download software, with a 4.8 GB download size and single-system play for one player. Availability and storefront details can vary by region, so check the relevant platform store for the version offered where you live.
What comes in Genesis Noir’s digital editions?
The base game is available digitally, with additional items listed separately on Steam. These include the original soundtrack, the interactive comic Moiré Noir, and the digital art book An Act of Creation. Steam describes the art book as containing production material such as concept art, storyboards, sheet music, screenshots, and creator reflections. Epic Games Store’s Cosmic Collection includes the game and all three digital extras: the soundtrack, art book, and interactive comic. These are digital materials, not printed collector items.
