Yes—Gengar can drop Herba Mystica in five-star Tera Raids in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. The cited reward tables list Gengar as a possible source of all five flavors: Bitter, Salty, Sour, Spicy, and Sweet. The reward is not guaranteed, and the same tables do not list Gengar among the six-star sources for those flavors.

Which Herba Mystica flavors can Gengar drop?

Gengar appears in the five-star Tera Raid reward lists for every Herba Mystica flavor. That means a five-star Gengar raid can be an eligible source of the herb shown below, but the listing describes a reward pool rather than a guaranteed result.

Herba Mystica Five-star Gengar listing Six-star Gengar listing What the listing establishes
Bitter Listed as a possible source Gengar is not shown in the cited six-star list A five-star Gengar raid may include Bitter Herba Mystica in its rewards
Salty Listed as a possible source Gengar is not shown in the cited six-star list Salty Herba Mystica is eligible in the five-star pool
Sour Listed as a possible source Gengar is not shown in the cited six-star list Sour Herba Mystica is eligible in the five-star pool
Spicy Listed as a possible source Gengar is not shown in the cited six-star list Spicy Herba Mystica is eligible in the five-star pool
Sweet Listed as a possible source Gengar is not shown in the cited six-star list Sweet Herba Mystica is eligible in the five-star pool

The records do not say that each raid produces one herb, that every flavor has the same chance, or that a single victory awards several flavors. They establish eligibility only. If a particular reward matters to you, treat the raid as an opportunity rather than a guaranteed farming route.

How to read a “possible source” listing

A reward-table entry answers a narrow question: can this raid encounter draw that item from its reward pool? For Gengar, the answer is yes at five stars for all five named flavors. It does not answer how often the item appears, whether another reward occupies the same slot, or whether a second victory will produce the same flavor.

That distinction matters when planning a farming session. Seeing Bitter, Salty, Sour, Spicy, and Sweet attached to Gengar is not a menu from which you select an herb. It is also not evidence that the flavors are equally likely. The flavor-by-flavor tables provide inclusion information, while the inspected records do not provide a general rate for ordinary five-star Gengar raids.

Why the star rating changes the answer

“Gengar drops Herba Mystica” is too broad without the raid tier. The documented connection is specifically between Gengar and the five-star Tera Raid reward pools. A Gengar encounter at another tier should not be assumed to use the same rewards.

In particular, the six-star lists checked for Bitter, Salty, Sour, Spicy, and Sweet Herba Mystica omit Gengar. That omission does not mean Gengar can never appear in a six-star raid for any other reward; it means the cited Herba Mystica tables do not identify Gengar as a six-star source for these flavors. For this question, select a five-star Gengar raid instead of relying on the Pokémon’s name alone.

How to hunt for a Gengar herb drop

  1. Use Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet. The reward information applies to the Nintendo Switch games, not to a generic Gengar battle or to a different Pokémon title.
  2. Locate a Gengar Tera Raid. Check the raid’s opponent and confirm that it is Gengar before committing your time or resources.
  3. Verify that the raid is five-star. The star level is the key condition. Do not treat an unstarred encounter, a lower-tier raid, or an unverified listing as the documented Herba Mystica source.
  4. Complete the raid and inspect the reward screen. Herba Mystica is a possible item in the eligible pool, so the absence of an herb after one victory is consistent with the published tables.
  5. Repeat only when the time cost makes sense for your target flavor. Because no general Gengar probability is provided, you cannot calculate a reliable number of attempts from the available records.

The practical check is simple: Pokémon, game, and tier all matter. A five-star Gengar raid satisfies the documented conditions; a Gengar raid with an unknown or different star rating does not provide the same evidence.

Is the drop guaranteed?

No. “Listed as a source” means that Herba Mystica is included among possible rewards, not that every five-star Gengar victory awards it. The available reward references do not publish a general five-star Gengar rate, a per-flavor rate, or a guaranteed-drop rule.

Do not read the flavor list as a sequence of rewards. Seeing all five flavors attached to Gengar does not establish that one raid pays out all five, that you can choose the flavor, or that Bitter is as common as Sweet. Those mechanics are not specified by the cited lists, so the safest expectation is a variable reward screen after each successful raid.

What the 2024 Gengar Spotlight event tells us

A historical event provides one concrete probability, but it must be kept separate from ordinary raid expectations. The official Pokémon Forums announcement said that Gengar would appear more frequently in five-star Tera Raids in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet from Sunday, October 27, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. PDT, through Thursday, October 31, 2024, at 4:59 p.m. PDT. The announcement described the event and its rewards but did not publish a Herba Mystica percentage.

  • Embark on a new Pokémon adventure
  • Catch, battle, and train Pokémon in the Paldea Region, a vast land filled with lakes, towering peaks, wastelands, small towns, and sprawling cities.
  • Choose either Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly, to be your first partner Pokémon before setting off on your journey through Paldea.
  • Embark on an independent study called the Treasure Hunt to gain new experiences, meet new people, and find your very own treasure.

Serebii’s archived Gengar Spotlight reward table, dated October 28–31, 2024, records one Bitter Herba Mystica at a 3% chance. That figure belongs to the archived event table. It is not a universal Gengar rate, not a rate for every five-star raid, and not evidence that Salty, Sour, Spicy, or Sweet have the same probability.

The two date styles reflect the sources’ conventions: the official notice uses Pacific Daylight Time, while the archive labels the event by calendar dates. Both refer to the same limited-time 2024 Spotlight period. The event has ended, so its dates should not be treated as a promise that a Gengar boost is active now.

How to use the herb after you obtain it

Herba Mystica is an in-game ingredient used to make sandwiches during picnics in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. The five names in the raid tables are separate item flavors, so keep the flavor you receive in mind when planning a sandwich. The Gengar reward listing answers where a possible ingredient can come from; it does not change the sandwich system or guarantee a particular sandwich effect.

If you need a specific flavor, record which raids produced it rather than assuming that the historical 3% Bitter figure applies to your target. The published evidence does not provide a comparable rate for the other four flavors.

Common mistakes when farming Gengar raids

  • Assuming every Gengar raid drops an herb: the tables show possible rewards, not a guaranteed item.
  • Ignoring the star level: the documented source is five-star; the cited six-star lists do not include Gengar for the five flavors.
  • Using the 3% figure as a permanent rate: 3% refers to one Bitter Herba Mystica reward in the archived 2024 Spotlight event.
  • Assuming equal flavor odds: the records list all five flavors but do not establish equal probabilities.
  • Expecting multiple flavors from one victory: the tables do not say that one raid awards every listed flavor.
  • Treating an old event as current: the official Spotlight window was limited to October 27–31, 2024 in PDT terms.
  • Assuming a table never changes: raid reward data and event availability can change with game updates, so verify the current in-game listing before spending time on a farming plan.

Choosing whether Gengar is worth targeting

Gengar is a reasonable target when you specifically want a five-star raid opponent and are willing to accept an uncertain reward. The strongest documented advantage is breadth: Gengar is listed for all five Herba Mystica flavors. That breadth does not make it the fastest source for any one flavor, because no general Gengar rate or comparison with other Pokémon is established here.

Use the following decision framework:

Your situation Best interpretation
You have found a five-star Gengar raid and need any Herba Mystica Attempt it if the battle is practical; all five flavors are represented in the cited five-star pools.
You need Bitter Herba Mystica and are looking at the 2024 3% number Use 3% only as an event-specific historical reference, not as a current expectation.
You found a six-star Gengar raid Do not assume it is a listed Herba Mystica source; the cited six-star tables omit Gengar.
You need a guaranteed herb or a known number of attempts These records cannot provide that guarantee or calculation.
You are planning around a future update or event Recheck the current reward table and event notice because availability and pools can change.

What is known—and what remains unknown?

The firm conclusions are limited but useful. Serebii’s flavor tables place Gengar in the five-star source lists for Bitter, Salty, Sour, Spicy, and Sweet Herba Mystica. The corresponding six-star lists shown on those pages do not place Gengar among the sources. The official Pokémon Forums notice confirms that the October 2024 Spotlight used five-star Tera Raids in both games.

What remains unknown from those records is just as important: there is no ordinary five-star Gengar percentage, no verified equal weighting across flavors, no promise of one or multiple herbs per win, and no current event guarantee. The archived 3% entry applies only to one Bitter Herba Mystica reward in that dated Spotlight table.

Bottom line for Gengar raids

For Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, the precise answer is: yes, Gengar can drop Herba Mystica in five-star Tera Raids. The cited five-star lists include Bitter, Salty, Sour, Spicy, and Sweet Herba Mystica. A drop is not guaranteed, no ordinary five-star Gengar rate is established, and Gengar is not shown in the cited six-star Herba Mystica lists. The only specific percentage available is the archived 2024 Spotlight entry for one Bitter Herba Mystica at 3%, which should not be generalized beyond that event.
