Return all three to the control board by the sealed gate, defeat Klenova the Ascended, install the Sewer Lift Control Wheel and ride the lift to the surface.
What the quest is and when it starts
Down in the Dumps is the third part of the In the Dwelling of Life chain in Version 7.0. It follows Transplanted From Yesterday to Tomorrow, which leaves your character in the sewer. The walkthrough for this sequence says no separate conversation with an NPC is required to begin it: the objective continues from the sewer section automatically.

The in-game objective is to find a way out of the sewer and back to the surface. The apparent dead ends are deliberate. Each key changes which sewer mechanisms you can operate, and trying to force the final gate before collecting the keys will not complete the route.

The progression at a glance
- Blue Key: collect it in the control room and use it at the northwest device to open the first gate.
- White Key: use the Blue Key to operate the water-control devices, reach the drained section and retrieve the White Key.
- Red Key: place the White Key in the left device, retrieve and reinsert the Blue Key with Paimon’s help, then take the newly opened lower path to the platform beside Leshy.
- Exit: return all three keys to the control board, defeat Klenova the Ascended, attach the dropped lift wheel and ride the elevator out.
The order matters because the later gates depend on the earlier keys. If a route appears sealed, check that the preceding key is in the correct device rather than searching for an alternate entrance.

Find the Blue Key in the control room
Locate the control room
The Blue Key is in the control room, on the device beside the entrance door. It is the first key you can obtain in this puzzle sequence. Take it before attempting the deeper water section; the White Key route cannot be opened without it.
Open the first gate
Carry the Blue Key to the device at the northwest side of the room and use it there. This activates the first gate. A cube can hold the gate open while you move through the opening and retrieve or position the key. If the gate starts closing, place the cube so it keeps the mechanism engaged before you pass through.
The important distinction is between carrying the key and leaving it in a mechanism. The Blue Key is needed again later, so do not treat the first placement as permanent. Once the initial gate is open, continue into the water-control area and keep track of where the key is installed.
Use the Blue Key to reach the White Key
Operate the water devices in sequence
The White Key is in the area beyond the Blue-Key gate. The walkthrough describes an upper device followed by a lower device. Activate the upper control and then the lower control quickly, because the water rises again if you wait too long. The objective is to change the water level long enough to cross into the section containing the White Key.
Watch the room after each interaction rather than assuming the first change is permanent. If the water begins returning before you reach the next control, go back to the device and repeat the sequence. The timing requirement is environmental, not a combat check, so changing your route and moving directly between the two devices is more useful than looking for another key.
Collect the White Key
With the water level adjusted, enter the newly accessible area and pick up the White Key. It is not in the original control room and does not appear until the Blue-Key water puzzle has opened this section.
Return with the Grappling Gun
Near the return route is a grapple point. Use the Grappling Gun there to break through the wall and get back toward the control area. The grapple interaction is part of the intended exit from the White-Key chamber; a blocked wall at this point is not evidence that the quest has malfunctioned.
Once you are back, keep both keys available for the next mechanism. The White Key changes which device can be used, while the Blue Key must be retrieved and inserted again before the lower route opens.
Open the lower route and take the Red Key
Insert the White Key in the left device
Place the White Key into the left-hand device in the control area. This is the first half of the lower-route solution. If the device does not react, confirm that you are using the left mechanism and that the White Key is actually installed rather than merely carried nearby.
Retrieve and reinsert the Blue Key
After the White Key is in place, use Paimon’s interaction to retrieve the Blue Key and insert it again as required by the mechanism. This step is easy to miss because the game asks you to manipulate a key you already used earlier. The lower path remains closed until both earlier keys have been handled in this new arrangement.

Follow the new lower path
Once the mechanism responds, take the newly opened route below the control area. The Red Key is on a platform beside Leshy. Move onto the platform and collect it before leaving the chamber.

Defeat the awakened Leshy
Taking the Red Key awakens Leshy. Defeat Leshy in the chamber, then return to the key locations and recover the White and Blue keys so that all three are in your possession. The Red Key is therefore both a collection objective and the trigger for the encounter; do not assume that picking it up ends the room’s requirements.
If you leave the lower chamber without the other keys, the sealed-gate board will still be incomplete. Retrace the route after the fight and check your inventory and the devices before moving on.
Use all three keys at the sealed gate
Find the control board
Return to the sealed gate and locate its control board. Insert the Red, White and Blue keys into the board. This is the final lock in the sewer puzzle; the individual devices used earlier do not replace the board’s three-key requirement.
When the board accepts the keys, proceed into the next room. If the gate does not open, one of the keys is still in an earlier device or the board has not received all three. Return along the route and collect any key you left installed during the water or lower-path steps.

Defeat Klenova and operate the sewer lift
Wake the boss
In the room beyond the sealed gate, wake and defeat Klenova the Ascended. The fight is the combat portion that follows the environmental puzzle. Clear the encounter before looking for the exit mechanism.
Take the Sewer Lift Control Wheel
Klenova drops the Sewer Lift Control Wheel when defeated. Pick it up from where it falls. The lift cannot be operated without this item, so a door that remains inactive after the battle usually means the wheel has not yet been collected.
Install the wheel and leave
Fit the wheel to the rotary mechanism near the elevator gate. Use the mechanism to open the gate, then ride the lift to the surface. This completes the sewer escape objective and ends the key-and-lift portion of Down in the Dumps.

The first gate closes before you pass
Use the cube as a physical hold for the gate. Position it so the gate remains open, then move through. The cube is not a key substitute; it simply prevents the opening from shutting while you cross.

Repeat the upper-then-lower device sequence and move immediately between controls. The walkthrough specifically describes doing these interactions quickly. Do not wait in the flooded section for another event to trigger.

The wall near the White Key will not open
Look for the grapple point and use the Grappling Gun. That interaction breaks the wall and provides the intended return path.
The lower route remains sealed
Check the left device first: it must contain the White Key. Then use Paimon’s interaction to retrieve and reinsert the Blue Key. Carrying both keys without completing those device interactions does not open the lower route.
The sealed gate rejects the keys
Recover any key left in a previous mechanism. The board requires the Red, White and Blue keys together, so verify that all three are held before attempting the final gate again.

Collect the Sewer Lift Control Wheel from Klenova’s drop location and attach it to the rotary mechanism. The elevator gate opens only after the wheel is fitted.
Reported rewards and version qualification
The walkthrough lists these rewards for the quest: 50 Primogems, four Mystic Enhancement Ore, five Hero’s Wit and 34,000 Mora. These figures are guide-reported rather than independently verified against an official quest listing, so they should be treated as the rewards shown by that walkthrough for its Version 7.0 coverage.
The key sequence and boss names here come from walkthrough pages accessed on October 13, 2026; one page is marked updated August 13, 2026. A later game update could alter device behavior, locations or rewards. If your game client presents a different mechanism, use the active objective and current quest markers as the authority.
