Lower resolution and demanding effects when the GPU is overloaded; fix power, cooling, or dedicated-GPU selection when performance collapses over time; and investigate drivers, background software, storage, or corrupted resources when the problem is stuttering or freezing.
This guide focuses on PC first, then covers Android, iPhone/iPad, PlayStation, and Xbox. It also separates low FPS from frame-time stutter and network lag, because they require different fixes.

First, determine whether it is FPS, stutter, or ping
| What you notice | Most likely issue | What usually helps |
|---|---|---|
| The whole game looks slow and movement remains choppy even when standing still. | Low FPS from the GPU, CPU, power mode, resolution, or heat. | Reduce demanding graphics settings, use the correct GPU, improve cooling, and choose a sustainable frame-rate target. |
| The counter says 60 FPS, but motion still feels jerky or brief freezes occur while entering areas or starting combat. | Poor frame pacing, shader or asset streaming, background software, drivers, storage, or thermal fluctuations. | Test V-Sync, disable overlays, check temperatures and clocks, use an SSD where possible, and verify resources. |
| Characters rubber-band, enemies teleport, or actions register late while the image itself remains smooth. | Network latency, packet loss, unstable Wi-Fi, VPN/proxy routing, or server issues. | Test the connection, switch networks when appropriate, and disable VPN or proxy services for troubleshooting. |
Lowering graphics quality cannot fix high ping, and a faster internet connection cannot directly raise FPS. HoYoverse discusses graphical and connection troubleshooting separately in its graphical-glitch guidance.
Check whether your device meets the current requirements
HoYoverse lists these as official support thresholds, not guaranteed performance targets. A device meeting the minimum specification is not automatically capable of stable 60-FPS play at high settings.

Mobile and console thresholds
- Android: the listed minimum profile includes ARMv8-A 64-bit, a non-PowerVR GPU, Snapdragon 660/Helio G88/Mali-G52-class hardware or above, 4 GB RAM, Android 10 or newer, and 40 GB free space. The recommended profile includes Snapdragon 855, Dimensity 1000, or Kirin 980-class hardware or above, 6 GB RAM, Android 12 or newer, and 60 GB free space.
- iPhone and iPad: the supported profile includes iPhone 8 Plus/iPhone X, iPad mini 5, iPad Air 3, iPad 8, and later devices with iOS/iPadOS 14 or newer. HoYoverse lists the iPhone 12 series and iPad 9th generation or later as recommended, with 60 GB free space.
- Consoles: the current requirements page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with 150 GB free space. It does not list Xbox One on that page.
Record a baseline before changing anything
Write down your current resolution, FPS limit, graphics preset, V-Sync state, display mode, CPU and GPU models, RAM amount, and whether the game is on an HDD or SSD. On a laptop, also record whether it is plugged in and which power mode is active.
Test the same repeatable situations each time:
- An open-world location.
- A busy city or settlement.
- Combat involving several characters, particles, and elemental effects.
Record average FPS and, if possible, 1% lows or visible frame-time spikes. Also watch GPU utilization, CPU utilization by core, GPU and CPU temperature, VRAM and system RAM use, and clock speeds. Total CPU usage can look moderate while one heavily loaded core is limiting the game.
Change one or two settings at a time, test the same locations, and keep a note of the original values. This makes every adjustment reversible and shows which change actually helped.
The fastest in-game improvements
On PC and generally on other platforms, open Paimon Menu → Settings → Graphics. HoYoverse specifically recommends reducing Graphics Quality, Shadow Quality, and Special Effects when investigating performance problems.
1. Choose a sustainable FPS target
Use the highest target your device can hold consistently, not the highest number it reaches for a few seconds. A stable 30 FPS is usually more comfortable than a fluctuating 45–60 FPS.
- 30 FPS: a sensible starting point for older phones, integrated graphics, thermally limited laptops, or systems that cannot sustain 60.
- 60 FPS: the normal target for capable PCs and current mobile devices.
- Higher refresh-rate targets: use them only when the platform and current game client expose the option and the hardware can sustain it.
For graphical instability, HoYoverse specifically suggests lowering the FPS setting from 60 to 30. That is a stability measure, not a claim that 30 FPS is universally optimal.

2. Lower resolution or render scale when the GPU is full
If GPU utilization is near 95–100%, reduce resolution or render scale first if the option is available. This often produces the largest direct GPU reduction, although the image becomes softer. Lowering several visual settings while retaining native resolution keeps the picture sharper but may deliver a smaller gain.
Do not expect a universal FPS percentage. The result depends on resolution, GPU, scene complexity, VRAM, driver state, and temperature.
3. Reduce shadows
Shadow quality is often a good compromise: reducing it can lower rendering work without making textures or characters look dramatically worse. It may have little effect when the real limit is a busy CPU scene.
4. Reduce special effects
Special effects matter most when combat includes many elemental particles and visual events. If exploration is smooth but battles cause drops, test this setting before lowering texture quality.
5. Reduce environmental detail
Open-world detail, foliage, draw distance, crowd density, and similar scene-complexity options can increase both GPU and CPU work. Test them in cities and dense outdoor areas, not only inside domains. A community discussion has suggested unusually large gains from environmental-detail changes, but that is anecdotal user evidence rather than a controlled benchmark; treat it as a lead to test on your own system, not a universal result.
6. Use the low-end-PC recommendations as a starting point
HoYoverse’s low-end-PC guidance recommends setting Global Illumination to Medium and Character Dynamic High Precision to Medium. Combine those settings with a lower FPS target, reduced shadows and effects, and—if the GPU is saturated—lower resolution or render scale. Device results vary, so test rather than assuming the same preset works everywhere.
7. Adjust textures later
Texture quality mainly affects visual detail and VRAM use. If VRAM is not full and rendering performance is poor, lowering textures may change little. If VRAM is exhausted or stutters occur while assets load, reducing textures can help.

8. Test V-Sync
HoYoverse recommends enabling V-Sync to stabilize frame delivery and reduce tearing. It is not an FPS booster for every system: V-Sync can add latency, create a lower refresh interval when the target cannot be sustained, or interact differently with variable-refresh-rate displays. Test it with your monitor and frame-rate target, then keep the configuration that feels smoothest.
Practical settings by hardware class
Low-end PC or integrated graphics
- Start at a 30-FPS target.
- Use lower resolution or render scale if GPU usage is high.
- Set Global Illumination and Character Dynamic High Precision to Medium as a starting point, following HoYoverse’s low-end guidance.
- Reduce shadows, special effects, environmental detail, and other scene-complexity settings.
- Lower textures if VRAM is full or asset loading causes hitching.
Mid-range gaming PC
- Try native resolution and a 60-FPS target.
- Reduce shadows, effects, and environmental detail before textures when GPU usage is the problem.
- Keep an eye on busy cities and combat, where the workload can differ from a quiet area.
- If FPS is high but motion feels uneven, investigate frame pacing instead of dropping every setting.
High-end PC
- Preserve image quality first and use a stable frame-rate cap.
- Check whether a CPU core, temperature, background capture tool, or storage delay is causing the dips.
- Do not assume a stronger GPU will fix a CPU- or engine-limited scene.
- Test V-Sync and variable refresh rate rather than relying only on an FPS overlay.
Laptop
- Connect the official charger while testing.
- Use the manufacturer’s performance or cooling mode rather than battery-saver or silent mode.
- Confirm that Genshin is using the dedicated GPU.
- Use a hard, flat surface and keep intake and exhaust vents clear.
- Compare performance at launch with performance after 10–30 minutes to identify sustained-load throttling.
Diagnose the bottleneck
| Observation | Likely limit | Next actions |
|---|---|---|
| GPU usage stays near 95–100%. | GPU-bound rendering. | Lower resolution/render scale, shadows, effects, global illumination, and environmental detail; check temperature and GPU clocks. |
| GPU usage is low while one CPU core is heavily loaded. | CPU-bound or engine-limited scene. | Reduce environmental detail and crowd/scene-complexity settings, close background programs, check CPU clocks, and use a stable cap. |
| FPS starts high and falls after 10–30 minutes. | Thermal throttling, power limits, or changing laptop performance mode. | Plug in, improve ventilation, use performance cooling mode, monitor temperature and clocks, and lower demanding settings or the FPS target. |
| Only combat causes drops. | Effects and rendering workload. | Reduce special effects, shadows, and global illumination; lower resolution if the GPU is saturated. |
| Only cities or dense open-world areas cause drops. | Scene complexity, environmental detail, CPU load, or draw distance. | Reduce environmental detail and equivalent scene-detail controls, then test shadows and crowd-related settings. |
| The FPS counter is stable but the game feels jerky. | Frame pacing, overlays, shader/asset streaming, drivers, storage, or VRR/V-Sync interaction. | Disable capture and overlays temporarily, test V-Sync, inspect frame times, check the SSD/HDD, and compare driver versions. |
Make sure Genshin uses the dedicated GPU
Hybrid-GPU laptops can launch a game on integrated graphics even when a discrete GPU is installed. In Windows, add the game executable under the per-app graphics settings and choose the High performance GPU where that option is available. In NVIDIA software, create a per-game profile and select the preferred high-performance processor. In AMD software, use the application profile or graphics settings.
Menu names change between Windows and driver versions. HoYoverse’s older PC FAQ documents NVIDIA Control Panel and AMD Radeon paths, but do not assume every current driver shows the same labels.
Update graphics drivers safely
Use the GPU manufacturer’s official source:
- NVIDIA driver downloads or the NVIDIA App.
- AMD driver support or AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.
- Intel’s official driver tools for Intel graphics.
NVIDIA describes Game Ready drivers as tested and tuned for games, while AMD Software provides driver updates, game profiles, performance statistics, and tuning controls. The newest driver is a sensible starting point, not a guarantee: if the problem began immediately after an update, test default driver settings and consider rolling back only when the previous version is known to behave better.
A clean installation is useful when a normal update does not resolve corruption or conflicts. It is not required for every driver update, and tools such as DDU are advanced options rather than first-line instructions.

Close background applications and overlays
For testing, close browsers with many tabs, streaming and recording tools, Discord or other overlays, cloud-sync applications, clipping software, and hardware-monitoring overlays. HoYoverse specifically notes that browsers and streaming services can consume system resources.
Overlays can conflict with a game or affect frame pacing, but they do not reduce performance in every configuration. Disable them temporarily to compare results, then re-enable anything you actually need.

Control heat and sustained performance
Desktop PC
- Clean dust filters and fans.
- Confirm case fans operate correctly.
- Keep intake and exhaust vents unobstructed.
- Watch whether GPU or CPU clocks fall when FPS drops.
Laptop
- Play on a hard, flat surface, never bedding or fabric.
- Clean vents carefully and use the manufacturer’s cooling mode.
- Compare plugged-in and battery performance.
- Consider a cooling stand or pad only if it improves airflow for that particular chassis.
Phone or tablet
- Remove a thick case during testing.
- Avoid direct sunlight and hot rooms.
- Lower graphics quality or FPS when the device heats up.
- Charge while playing only if the device remains cool and is designed to manage that load.
Temperature limits differ by processor, GPU, laptop manufacturer, firmware, and power mode. Do not treat one temperature number as proof that every system will throttle.

Move the game to an SSD
An SSD can improve loading, area transitions, and some hitching caused by slow asset streaming. It cannot turn an underpowered GPU or CPU into a high-FPS system. Before buying one, confirm the computer’s M.2/NVMe or SATA compatibility, capacity needs, warranty, and available space. HoYoverse recommends an SSD and currently lists at least 110 GB of free PC storage, with the warning that future updates may require more.
Repair resources after updates, glitches, or freezes
Use the official integrity check when stuttering, crashes, corrupted visuals, or freezes begin after an update:
- On the login screen, click the wrench icon; or
- Open Paimon Menu → Settings → Resources → Check Resource Integrity.
Then fully close the game. HoYoverse advises waiting five minutes before restarting during troubleshooting. This is a low-cost reset for a transient state, not a guaranteed performance fix.

Platform-specific advice
Android
- Lower graphics quality and FPS before the phone becomes hot.
- Close other apps and keep sufficient free storage available.
- Remove the case, avoid direct sunlight, and restart after major updates.
- If performance starts smoothly and declines as the phone heats, prioritize sustained stability over a higher peak FPS.
iPhone and iPad
- Confirm that the device is within HoYoverse’s supported profile.
- Lower graphics and FPS when the device becomes hot.
- Close background apps and avoid heat buildup while charging.
- Restart after an update or persistent graphical problem.
PlayStation and Xbox
- Use the available performance or FPS mode if the current game client exposes one.
- Keep adequate storage free and install system and game updates.
- Restart the game and console.
- Improve ventilation and consider reinstalling the game if persistent corruption is suspected.
Console controls are more limited than PC controls, and available modes can vary by platform and game version.

- Do not use unofficial FPS unlockers, injectors, modified clients, or executables that alter the game process. Their safety, compatibility, and account implications can change.
- Do not permanently disable antivirus or Windows security. At most, use a temporary, official-support-directed diagnostic test and restore protection immediately.
- Do not rely on registry hacks, RAM cleaners, or paid “game boosters.” They are not proven universal solutions.
- Do not set maximum performance globally without a reason. A per-game profile is safer for testing because global settings can increase heat, power use, and fan noise.
- Do not download drivers or MSI Afterburner from search-advertised mirrors. MSI warns about fake Afterburner sites; use the official MSI page or its recognized distribution source.
- Do not overclock or undervolt casually. Advanced tuning can create instability and is unnecessary for first-line troubleshooting.
When hardware is the real limit
If the GPU remains saturated at your desired resolution and settings, or one CPU core is consistently limiting dense scenes, software tweaks can only move the target downward. An SSD is most useful for loading and storage-related hitching; additional RAM matters mainly when 8 GB systems are paging or competing with many applications; cooling hardware matters only when sustained temperatures or clocks show a thermal problem.
Before buying anything, rule out wrong-GPU selection, battery power, overheating, corrupted resources, driver conflicts, and network latency. If the system is consistently GPU- or CPU-limited after those checks, a GPU, laptop, or complete-PC upgrade is the durable solution. Compare the target resolution, sustained cooling, RAM, SSD capacity, warranty, and total system power—not just a single component’s advertised peak specification.
A safe optimization order
- Identify whether the symptom is low FPS, stutter, or network lag.
- Record settings and measure repeatable scenes.
- Set a stable FPS target.
- Lower resolution/render scale, shadows, effects, and environmental detail according to the measured bottleneck.
- Plug in laptops, select performance mode, and confirm the dedicated GPU.
- Update drivers from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel; consider a clean installation only when warranted.
- Close background programs, overlays, recording tools, and cloud-sync tasks.
- Check ventilation, temperatures, clock speeds, and sustained performance.
- Use an SSD where possible and verify free space.
- Check resource integrity after corruption, updates, glitches, or freezes.
- Restart and retest the same scenes.
- Escalate to HoYoverse with the requested logs and system information if crashes or freezes continue.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does lowering graphics increase Genshin Impact FPS?
Usually, if the GPU is the bottleneck. Start with resolution or render scale, shadows, special effects, and environmental detail. The size of the improvement depends on the hardware, scene, resolution, temperatures, and driver state.
Will an SSD increase FPS in Genshin Impact?
Usually not directly. An SSD can improve loading, area transitions, and some storage-related asset-streaming hitching, but it will not solve a GPU- or CPU-limited frame rate.
Why does Genshin start smooth and become slow later?
A performance decline after 10–30 minutes commonly points to heat, power limits, or a laptop mode changing under sustained load. Check temperatures and clock speeds, improve ventilation, plug in the charger, and lower the sustained FPS target.
Can faster internet fix low FPS?
No. Internet quality affects ping, packet loss, and delayed actions. Rendering performance depends on the device, graphics settings, drivers, software, storage, power, and cooling.
The Bottom Line
Optimize Genshin Impact by targeting the real limit: reduce resolution and effects for a GPU bottleneck, reduce scene detail and background load for a CPU bottleneck, fix power and cooling for sustained drops, and verify drivers and resources for new or intermittent problems. Stable frame delivery is more valuable than a briefly higher FPS number.
