Some U.S. players reported delayed or incorrectly distributed codes during the September 2024 Genshin Impact × McDonald’s promotion. A contemporaneous community post reproduced a notice attributed to HoYoverse acknowledging those problems, but the available record does not establish how many customers were affected or what caused the failures. The promotion has ended, and its code deadline—October 29, 2024—has passed.
What happened with the McDonald’s Genshin Impact codes?
The U.S. promotion ran from September 17 through September 29, 2024. Customers who ordered the collaboration apple pie or Deluxe McCrispy meal through the McDonald’s app were supposed to receive a redemption code by email at the address associated with their app account. The official Genshin Impact announcement video described the offer and its redemption process.
On September 19, a community post reproduced a notice attributed to HoYoverse: “We have noticed that some Travelers may be experiencing issues related to delayed redemption code delivery or incorrect code distribution after purchasing the Genshin Impact × McDonald’s collaboration products.” The reproduced notice also said the team was working to resend codes. This is a secondary record of an acknowledgement, not a primary incident-report page. It confirms that problems were reported, but does not quantify them or identify a verified cause. The announced rewards differed by purchase: the pie code included Primogems and recipe materials, while the meal code included a glider and namecard. The video set the code expiry at October 29, 2024, 23:59:59 UTC−9. That deadline has passed; the original offer is not available to purchase or redeem now.

Was the code missing, or did it arrive but fail?
The next step depended on where the problem occurred. A missing email concerned code delivery through the McDonald’s app account; a code that arrived but was rejected concerned validation through Genshin Impact’s redemption process.

What to do if the code email never arrived
- Check the correct account email. The 2024 announcement said the code would go to the email associated with the McDonald’s app account. McDonald’s U.S. account guidance says the email address associated with an app account cannot be changed and that opted-in email is used for app and promotion communications. - Search other inbox folders. Look in spam or junk and promotions folders, not just the main inbox.
- Gather order details and contact McDonald’s. Keep the purchase confirmation and the email address tied to the app account available. Current McDonald’s guidance for a separate U.K. 2026 game-code promotion advises checking the app confirmation screen and confirmation email, then contacting customer service if the code is still missing. The available information does not establish whether an individual 2024 claim was resolved, or whether support can reissue an expired code. Do not assume a missing code can still be claimed under the old offer.

What to check if a code was invalid or already used
HoYoverse’s current help article recommends these checks for a rejected redemption code:
- Server region: Confirm that the code matches the account’s server—Asia, Europe, Americas, or TW/HK/MO.
- Expiry: Check that the code has not expired. The codes for this McDonald’s event were announced to expire on October 29, 2024 at 23:59:59 UTC−9.
- Exact entry: Enter the code carefully, respecting letter case and distinguishing similar-looking characters.
- Prior use: Check whether the code has already been redeemed.
If a code that should be valid still fails, HoYoverse advises contacting support with the specific code and a screenshot or video of the error.
