It was a specific 2024 in-game reward—not a choice of every 5-star character, including limited-event characters—and the official notices reviewed here do not establish that it can still be claimed.
What was the free 5-star anniversary reward?
HoYoverse said players could “invite a 5-star character from the Standard Wish lineup to their team for free.” The wording matters: the invitation covered the Standard Wish lineup, not all 5-star characters in Genshin Impact. HoYoverse’s August 16, 2024 Version 5.0 announcement described the offer as part of the game’s fourth-anniversary rewards.
When was the offer available?
The reward was tied to Version 5.0, which HoYoverse announced would arrive on August 28, 2024. The official Version 5.0 Benefits Overview identifies the anniversary context. These notices document a historical offer; they do not confirm a current claim window or provide a present-day way to collect it.
Was the free character the only anniversary reward?
No. HoYoverse also published a separate thank-you letter offering Primogems that could be claimed before Version 5.0 ended. That was a distinct reward, not part of the Standard Wish character invitation. See the official Version 5.0 Benefits Overview and A Letter of Thanks for the anniversary notices.
