What to know before you start
Squad Busters is a mobile action game in which you move around a map, battle, collect coins and spend them to open chests. Each chest offers a choice from the Squaddies you have unlocked. Your squad grows through those choices, so the lineup is shaped during a match rather than selected all at once at the start. Supercell’s battle guide explains the basic loop.
There is an important date caveat: Supercell announced on October 30, 2025, that active development would end after a final update planned for December 2025. The company expected the game to remain playable for a period, with server closure planned for 2026, no earlier than midyear. Its FAQ described a target window between midyear and the end of 2026; that was a plan, not a confirmed closure date. The official information cited here does not establish whether servers are live today. See Supercell’s sunset announcement and its sunset FAQ for the company’s published guidance.
Supercell said in-app purchases became unavailable at 11:00 UTC on October 30, 2025. It also described a transfer process for purchases made in 2025, with a window ending at the close of that year; that is not an indication that transfers remain open. After official servers close, the company says the game will not be playable offline or through private servers, and player profiles and stats will no longer be accessible.

How a match works
Explore, collect coins and open chests
Move through the map and battle to earn coins. Use coins to open chests, then choose one of the Squaddies offered. Because the selection is drawn from characters you have unlocked, your available choices depend in part on your collection.
Choose duplicates to fuse
If a chest offers a Squaddie already in your squad, choosing it fuses the duplicates and improves that character’s stats. It strengthens an existing unit instead of adding another separate team member. When deciding between a duplicate and a new Squaddie, consider whether reinforcing the unit you already have is more useful than broadening your lineup.
Protect your Hero
The Hero is the unit you actively control and the most important survival priority under the rules introduced in the May 2025 overhaul. You trigger the Hero’s Power moves yourself; Squaddie abilities activate automatically as you collect and fuse units. Supercell says that if your Hero is busted, your whole squad is wiped out. Avoid risky engagements when they could leave the Hero exposed, even if the rest of your squad is strong. The Heroes update announcement describes the redesigned roles and powers.

Make choices for the situation, not a fixed “best” squad
There is no single lineup established by the official guidance as best for every match. Think about the role and ability of each offered Squaddie, whether it complements or reinforces your current team, and whether you can keep your Hero safe while using it. A new unit can add a useful ability; a duplicate can make a current unit stronger. The right pick depends on what your squad needs and the situation on the map.

Supercell’s support index has listed modes including Showdown, Gem Hunt, Duo Gem Hunt and Squad League; the final-update support article also says Auto Duel was added. These modes offer different kinds of play: solo survival, collecting gems, or competing with a teammate. Because the game is in its sunset period, verify which modes and events are actually available rather than assuming an older guide’s list is current.

World Journey, resources, chests, quests, achievements, modes and events all appear in Supercell’s support material, but their current availability or rewards should not be taken for granted. Supercell said that after the December 2025 final update, it would add no new content, though recurring events were planned during the remaining server period. It also said all in-game content became unlockable through Lucky Boxes. Those statements describe the sunset-era plan and do not guarantee that a particular event, unlock, reward or purchase is available now. Consult the support index and current in-game screens for what remains accessible.
Why the game is in sunset
Supercell’s explanation was that, despite multiple reworks, it saw no clear route to reaching its quality bar without another major pivot. The company also said the original game’s systems were incompatible with the later overhaul. That is Supercell’s account of its decision, rather than an independent assessment of the game.
