If GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE- (GGST) crashes on your PC, first work out whether only the game closes or Windows itself freezes, blue-screens, or restarts. Then try these eight low-risk checks in order. They are general troubleshooting steps—not guaranteed fixes—and the right next step depends on when the crash happens and what error appears.

1. Identify what is actually crashing

Note what happens and when: does GGST close on launch, crash during a particular mode, or display an error such as “fatal error”? Or does the whole computer freeze, show a blue screen, or restart? Record the exact wording and whether the same event happens again. A game-only exit and a system-level crash point to different kinds of problems.

2. Compare your PC with GGST’s system requirements

Steam lists these requirements for the PC version of GGST. Meeting them does not guarantee a stable game, but checking them can reveal whether the computer falls below the published baseline.

Specification Minimum Recommended
Operating system 64-bit Windows 8/10 Not stated in Steam’s listing
Processor AMD FX-4350 or Intel Core i5-3450 Intel Core i7-3770
Memory 4 GB RAM 8 GB RAM
Graphics Radeon HD 6870 or GeForce GTX 650 Ti GeForce GTX 660
DirectX Version 11 Version 11
Storage 26 GB available space 30 GB available space

These are the figures in Steam’s GGST listing; it does not state a separate publication date for the requirements. If your PC is below the minimum in one area, treat that as a possible constraint rather than proof of the crash’s cause.

3. Restart the PC and Steam

Save any other work, restart Windows, then reopen Steam and launch GGST again. Steam includes restarting both the computer and client in its file-verification guidance, making this a simple first check before changing files or settings.

4. Install available Windows updates

Steam’s general launch troubleshooting recommends updating Windows. Use Windows Update to check for and install applicable updates, then restart if prompted and see whether the symptom changes.

Keep one GGST-specific notice in its proper scope: Arc System Works said on September 30, 2025 that some players on Steam and Windows could encounter online connection errors from October 1, 2025 in Ranked Match and Online Match in Team of 3 if the latest Windows Update was missing. The notice recommends installing that update for those connection errors; it is not evidence that Windows updates generally fix game crashes. Read Arc System Works’ notice.

5. Update your computer’s drivers

Steam’s launch guidance recommends updating computer drivers. Check for applicable updates through Windows or the support utility for your PC or graphics hardware, and follow the provider’s installation instructions. No particular driver version is established as a GGST crash fix, so note what changed and whether the crash behavior is different afterward.

6. Verify GGST’s files in Steam

Steam recommends checking installed game files when content is missing or a game crashes. In the Steam client:

  1. Restart the PC and Steam if you have not already.
  2. Open Library and select GGST.
  3. Open the game’s Properties.
  4. Select Installed Files.
  5. Choose Verify integrity of game files and allow the check to finish; it may take several minutes.

Steam may report that some files failed verification. Its guidance says this can be normal because local configuration files are not replaced. See Steam’s verification instructions.

7. Temporarily close non-essential background software

Steam recommends disabling non-essential software when a game will not launch. Close only applications you recognize and can safely reopen, then try GGST again. If the game behaves differently, reopen the applications one at a time to help identify whether one is associated with the problem. The available guidance does not identify any specific application as a confirmed GGST conflict.

8. Escalate using the evidence you have

If the checks above do not change a game-only crash, keep the exact error text, when it occurs, and what troubleshooting you tried. Use that information when contacting Steam or game support rather than assuming a particular fix applies.

Optional: consider mods or configuration changes cautiously

Community posts include individual reports about mods, configuration or save data, and crash logs, but they do not establish universal fixes. If you choose to investigate these, first back up relevant saves and configuration files, change one thing at a time, and avoid deleting data unless you know what it contains. These reports are anecdotal, not official instructions.

If Windows itself crashes or restarts

A full-PC freeze, blue screen, or forced restart is different from GGST simply closing. Steam Support says those system-level crashes indicate a problem with the computer rather than Steam or the game. If common troubleshooting does not resolve them, contact your PC manufacturer or a qualified local technician. Steam’s guidance on computer crashes explains this distinction.

What to track after each step

  • Whether GGST closes on launch, during play, or in a particular mode.
  • Whether the error message or timing changes.
  • Whether only the game exits or Windows also freezes, blue-screens, or restarts.
  • Which single change you made before testing again.

Steam notes that launch problems can have different causes across hardware and software configurations. These checks are a way to narrow down the issue, not a ranked list of fixes with established success rates. Steam’s general launch troubleshooting covers the Windows, driver, file, software, and requirements checks described here.
