That date controls when the clues and ghosts become available; the festival being live from October 7 does not mean every puzzle is active on the first day.
Once the puzzle is active, the task is to search the festival grounds for 10 ghosts and photograph them with Disney Dreamlight Valley’s camera. The stated reward is a furniture item. The announcement does not provide an authoritative section-by-section map of ghost locations, so a reliable fix cannot promise a particular spawn point or a complete location list.

Why the clues may not be showing
You are checking before October 18
This is the most common explanation. A player entering the festival before the scheduled unlock should not expect the Ghost Hunt clues or ghosts to be present. No restart, reinstall, camera setting, or change of Valley location can activate a puzzle that is still locked by the event schedule. Wait until October 18, then re-enter the island so the event state can load.
You are in the Valley rather than the event island
Ghost Hunt takes place on the Haunted Floating Island’s festival grounds, not in an ordinary Valley biome. The documented access routes are the portal in the Plaza and the teleport option in the Event tab. If you remain in the Valley, you can miss the clues even though the event is active on your account.
The game client or event state has not refreshed
Live-service events can require a fresh session after an unlock window or a patch. A complete close and relaunch while connected to the internet is a practical troubleshooting step, but Gameloft has not documented it as a guaranteed Ghost Hunt-specific fix. Treat it as a refresh, not as proof that your account is damaged.

Fixes to try, in the right order
1. Confirm the date and event window
- Check the current date against October 18, 2026.
- If it is earlier, stop troubleshooting the missing clues; the puzzle is scheduled to remain unavailable.
- If it is October 18 or later, continue with the event-area and client checks below.
- Remember that the overall Haunted Floating Festival ends on October 31, 2026, so the event has a finite availability window.
The date check prevents you from treating normal scheduling as a technical failure. It is also the only fix that applies when the puzzle has not reached its unlock time.
2. Enter through the documented event routes
- Open the Plaza and use the portal to the Haunted Floating Island, or open the Event tab and choose its teleport option.
- Wait for the island to finish loading before searching.
- Go to the festival grounds on the island. Do not search only the Plaza or another Valley area.
- Open the Event tab again if you need to confirm that the festival activity is selected.
Using the documented route matters because it places you in the event space where the Ghost Hunt objective is defined. If the island does not load, leave the current area and try the same portal or Event-tab route again after restarting the game.

3. Install every available game update
Before deeper troubleshooting, check your platform for an available Disney Dreamlight Valley update and install it. Gameloft’s October 8, 2026 hotfix shows that the developer is shipping fixes for quest freezes, missing progression updates, and ghost-related problems. Running an older client can leave you without fixes that are already available for your platform.
The October 8 hotfix is not a blanket confirmation that every missing Ghost Hunt clue has been fixed. Update first, then test Ghost Hunt again after entering the island through the official route.
4. Fully close and relaunch while online
- Exit Disney Dreamlight Valley completely rather than leaving it suspended or minimized.
- Make sure the platform is connected to the internet.
- Launch the game again and wait for the main menu and event data to load.
- Open the Event tab, select the Haunted Floating Festival, and teleport to the island.
- Return to the festival grounds and check whether the clues and ghosts now appear.
This process refreshes the client session and the event view. It is reversible and low-risk, but it is a practical step rather than an officially guaranteed Ghost Hunt workaround.
5. Leave the island and re-enter it
If the clues remain absent after relaunching, return to the Valley with the Wishing Well or the map, then teleport back to the Haunted Floating Island through the Plaza portal or Event tab. Re-entering forces you to pass through the event’s normal access flow again. The event announcement documents that access flow, while the use of leave-and-return as a refresh is an inference rather than a Ghost Hunt-specific instruction from Gameloft.
6. Search every festival-ground section and photograph each ghost
- Walk through all accessible sections of the festival grounds rather than checking only the area near the portal.
- When a ghost is visible, use the in-game camera and take the required photograph.
- Continue until you have photographed all 10 ghosts required by the objective.
- If a ghost remains visible after a photograph, repeat the camera interaction instead of assuming the first shot registered.
- Recheck the Event tab after the final photograph to see whether the objective has updated.
The official requirement is 10 photographed ghosts, not merely seeing 10 apparitions. A ghost that remains on screen can indicate that the camera interaction did not count, so repeat the shot and verify the objective before leaving the island.

7. Separate Ghost Hunt from other ghost-related issues
Ghost-themed problems in the October 8 hotfix are not all the same issue. That hotfix addressed ghosts remaining in Mickey’s House and Merlin’s Library after “The Oogie Boogie Contract.” It also addressed a reward-claim problem that could block “A Halloween Invasion.” Those notes do not explicitly promise a fix for missing Ghost Hunt clues or for a Ghost Hunt photograph that fails to register.
Use the hotfix as evidence that updating is worthwhile, not as confirmation that every ghost symptom has one cause. Identify the exact puzzle, location, and objective that is failing before reporting it.
8. Escalate if the objective still fails
After October 18, an updated client, a clean relaunch, a documented entry route, and a complete search, a persistent missing clue or uncounted photograph should be treated as a possible progression issue. Check Gameloft’s Known Issues page and issue tracker for an entry that matches your symptom. If no matching entry exists, contact support.
Include the following information so support can distinguish an unlock problem from an account-state problem:
- Your platform and the Disney Dreamlight Valley game version shown by that platform.
- The puzzle name and number: Ghost Hunt, Puzzle 9.
- The date and approximate time you tested it, noting whether it was on or after October 18, 2026.
- Whether you entered through the Plaza portal or the Event tab.
- Whether the clues are entirely absent, ghosts are absent, or photographs appear but the objective does not advance.
- The number of ghosts photographed and any ghost that remained visible afterward.
- A screenshot or short video showing the Event tab, the festival grounds, and the missing or stalled objective.

What to do when photographs do not complete the puzzle
A stalled completion message is different from clues never appearing. First establish that the hunt is active and that you are on the festival grounds. Then count the photographs that the Event tab recognizes, not simply the ghosts you remember seeing. The objective calls for 10 ghosts photographed with the camera.

If the counter stops below 10, return to each festival-ground section and look for a ghost that was visible but not successfully captured. Use the camera again when it appears, then check the objective. If the counter reaches 10 but the puzzle does not complete or the furniture reward cannot be claimed, capture a screenshot or video of the completed count and the stalled reward state. That evidence gives support a precise progression symptom instead of a general “ghosts missing” report.
How to interpret the October 8 hotfix
The hotfix is useful context because it confirms that Gameloft has been correcting live event and quest progression problems during the festival period. Its listed ghost fixes concern post-“The Oogie Boogie Contract” ghosts left in Mickey’s House and Merlin’s Library. Its reward-related fix concerns “A Halloween Invasion.” Neither note says that Ghost Hunt Puzzle 9’s unlock, clues, photographs, or furniture reward is universally fixed.
Therefore, install the hotfix and retest, but keep the distinction in your support report. Saying “the October 8 hotfix fixed Ghost Hunt” would overstate what the published notes establish.
Low-risk checks versus escalation
Reversible checks you can perform yourself
- Waiting until the scheduled October 18 unlock.
- Entering through the Plaza portal or Event-tab teleport.
- Installing an available update.
- Fully closing and relaunching while online.
- Returning to the Valley and re-entering the island.
- Repeating a camera interaction and checking the objective count.
These checks do not require deleting a save, abandoning the event, or changing unrelated Valley settings. Keep your troubleshooting focused on the event area and the objective that is failing.

If you are after October 18, on the current version, entering the correct island, and still seeing the same missing clue or stalled count after a clean relaunch and re-entry, repeating the same cycle is unlikely to add useful information. Move to the Known Issues page and support workflow, supplying the evidence listed above.
