At the cited U.S. launch price of $69.99, the Complete Edition is the better buy for a new player. It contains the full Ghost of Yōtei game, Legends, every Digital Deluxe in-game item, the Charm of Hokkyokusei, and the two paid additions: the Echoes of Sekigahara narrative expansion and the Most Wanted single-player survival mode. Buy the standard edition when you find it substantially cheaper, only want the original campaign and Legends, or are deliberately avoiding the new story and survival content. If you already own the standard edition, the relevant comparison is the $14.99 Complete Edition Upgrade.
Ghost of Yōtei editions at a glance
Both editions start with the same core game. The difference is whether you receive the post-launch paid content and Digital Deluxe bonuses in the box or have to purchase them separately. Sony’s Complete Edition announcement and PlayStation Store listing put the Complete Edition at $69.99 in the United States, the same U.S. launch MSRP announced for the standard edition.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Think of Complete Edition as a bundle rather than a different version of the campaign. The main story, Legends, save data and basic gameplay systems are the same foundation. Complete adds the two paid experiences and a set of optional equipment and cosmetic bonuses. A standard owner who later buys the upgrade reaches the same paid-content package without rebuying the base game.

- Stunning graphics and gameplay, explore the wild and striking lands around Mount Yotei on foot or horseback. Travel picturesque parts of northern Japan through grasslands, snowy ridges, fields of wildflowers, and more.
- Discover renegade combat, engage in lawless katana combat and battles with adversaires. Train with various sensei as you find and learn to use each new weapon.
- An unconventional story and journey, take in the cultural beauty of Japan, bathe in an onsen, visit shrines to pray, try Sumi-e painting, and so much more.
- Choose your weapon, battle Atsu's opponents as you see fit, with levelled-up dual katanas, odachi, kusarigama and other new weapons.
What the Complete Edition includes
The complete campaign and Legends
The package includes the award-winning Ghost of Yōtei main game and Ghost of Yōtei Legends. The campaign is the single-player foundation, while Legends supplies the separate multiplayer-focused experience. Legends supports up to four online players, and online play requires PlayStation Plus. Owning Complete Edition does not remove that service requirement.
That distinction matters for households deciding whether the bundle replaces a multiplayer subscription. It does not: the game entitlement and the PlayStation Plus requirement are separate. You can play the campaign and Most Wanted without Plus, but online Legends sessions still require the subscription.
Echoes of Sekigahara
Echoes of Sekigahara is a new narrative expansion included with Complete Edition. It follows Atsu through present-day Ezo and flashbacks to the Battle of Sekigahara. The expansion adds a new valley, new enemies, heavy weapons, armor sets and dyes. Sony describes it as “our new narrative expansion,” distinguishing it from a cosmetic pack or a short bonus quest.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe setting gives the add-on a different scope from a simple challenge mode: Atsu moves between present-day Ezo and historical flashbacks, while the new valley and enemy roster provide a separate space to explore and fight in. Heavy weapons, armor sets and dyes also give returning players new equipment goals beyond the original campaign’s loadout.
The expansion is a paid addition even though delivery is through a game update. Standard-edition owners do not receive it from the free patch; they need the $14.99 Complete Edition Upgrade or another separately offered purchase route. Sony has not established a standalone price for Echoes of Sekigahara in the cited listings, so a buyer should not assume that purchasing it separately will cost less than the upgrade.
Most Wanted
Most Wanted is a new single-player combat survival mode. Sucker Punch describes it as “our spin on a roguelike.” A run begins with a bounty. Defeating enemies earns perks, and additional playable characters unlock as you progress. Because runs, perks and character unlocks form the mode’s central loop, Most Wanted is aimed at players who want repeatable combat challenges in addition to the authored campaign.
The run structure also explains why it can remain useful after you finish the story. Instead of following one fixed sequence of missions, you start a bounty, build power through earned perks and work toward more character unlocks. The announced details do not promise a particular run length, difficulty range or number of characters, so do not treat those as guaranteed features.

- Discover a bold, new story of a warrior in Japan who is on her own mission of vengeance.
- Set 300 years after the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei is a standalone experience set in 1600s rural Japan. The story follows a haunted, lone mercenary named Atsu. Thirsty for revenge, she travels through the beautiful, rugged landscapes of northern Japan, hunting those who killed her family many years earlier.
- Sixteen years after her family’s death, Atsu’s quest across Ezo brings her to unexplored lands in search of a gang of six outlaws, but she finds much more than vengeance. Throughout her journey, Atsu will discover unlikely allies, and greater bonds than she could have imagined.
Digital Deluxe content and Charm of Hokkyokusei
Complete Edition also includes all in-game content listed for the Digital Deluxe Edition and the Charm of Hokkyokusei. Sony’s Store listing identifies these items:
- An in-game mask
- The Charm of Hokkyokusei
- Snake Armor
- A Digital Deluxe armor dye
- A Digital Deluxe horse and saddle
- A sword kit
- Early unlocks for Traveler’s Maps
- Charm of Amaterasu
These are in-game items and bonuses rather than a second campaign. Their value is therefore most important to players who care about alternate looks, equipment options, early access to map tools or collectible-style extras. They do not replace the two substantial additions: Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted.
The wording “early unlocks” is important: Traveler’s Maps bonuses change when the maps become available, not the existence of the underlying map system. Likewise, armor dyes, the horse and saddle, mask and sword kit are presentation or equipment options; they are not advertised as separate missions. Charm items are included as listed in-game bonuses, while the story expansion and survival mode are the bundle’s major content additions.

What the standard edition includes
The base game and Legends
The standard edition is the base Ghost of Yōtei package. It provides the main campaign and Legends, giving a new owner the core single-player and multiplayer experiences. Sony announced the standard edition for retail and PlayStation Store release.
For Legends online play, the Store listing states support for up to four online players and requires PlayStation Plus. That requirement applies regardless of whether the game was bought as standard or Complete Edition.
Standard-edition pre-order bonuses
Sony’s standard-edition announcement listed a unique in-game mask and seven PSN avatars as pre-order bonuses, subject to the stated redemption requirements. These bonuses should not be confused with the Digital Deluxe items included in Complete Edition. Availability can depend on whether a specific retailer or digital listing still honors the pre-order offer.
A current retail listing may show the standard game without those bonuses, especially after the pre-order period. Check the product page and redemption language rather than assuming every standard disc includes the mask or avatars. Those pre-order items are also separate from the Complete Edition’s mask and other Digital Deluxe bonuses.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →What standard does not include
The standard edition does not include the Digital Deluxe bonuses, Charm of Hokkyokusei, Echoes of Sekigahara or Most Wanted. The free October 2026 patch features are a separate matter: those arrive for all owners, so their presence does not turn a standard copy into a Complete Edition.

- Battle against over 50 players simultaneously in a massive multiplayer playground.
- Compete in an all-out mass start race—collide, grind, and fight your way to the finish
- Customize your character to show off your style to your friends or show up the competition.
- Bike, ski, snowboard, or wingsuit through a seamless open world in Career mode or multiplayer events.
- Go wild on the heights of iconic US national parks like Yosemite, Zion, and Bryce Canyon.
Buying a listing described only as “base game,” “standard” or “launch edition” therefore should not be expected to grant the Complete-only content. If a retailer uses an abbreviated title, verify the edition field and included codes before paying a premium.
Free patch content versus Complete-only paid content
A major source of confusion is that both the free features and the paid additions arrive through the same version 2.0 update. Installing the update does not mean a standard owner has purchased the Complete Edition content.
| Content | Standard owner | Complete owner or upgrade purchaser |
|---|---|---|
| Beauty of Yōtei screensaver-like mode | Free | Free |
| Watanabe Mode tracks | Free | Free |
| Use one armor set’s appearance with another set’s stats | Free | Free |
| High-contrast accessibility option | Free | Free |
| Echoes of Sekigahara | Requires Complete Edition Upgrade or another paid route | Included |
| Most Wanted | Requires Complete Edition Upgrade or another paid route | Included |
Sony says these additions arrive in patch v2.0 on October 1, 2026 globally and October 2 in some territories. Downloading the paid content requires an internet connection and a PlayStation account. The patch timing is therefore relevant to access, but it does not change the ownership split between the editions.
The free appearance/stat option is particularly useful if you like a specific armor look but prefer another set’s abilities. It is a customization feature, not an additional armor set. Beauty of Yōtei is described as a screensaver-like mode, while Watanabe Mode adds tracks; neither is locked behind the Complete Edition price.
Prices, currencies and the upgrade calculation
| Purchase | Price stated in the announcements | What that figure means |
|---|---|---|
| Standard edition | $69.99 USD / £69.99 / €79.99 / ¥8,980 | Sony’s announced launch MSRP; local retail prices may differ |
| Complete Edition | $69.99 USD | Sony’s U.S. announcement and Store listing price |
| Complete Edition Upgrade | $14.99 USD | Add-on price for existing standard-edition owners in the U.S. listing |
The cited material gives the Complete Edition and upgrade prices in U.S. dollars but does not establish equivalent regional upgrade prices. Do not convert $14.99 into a guaranteed pound, euro or yen price; check the store for your account region.
At equal U.S. launch pricing, Complete Edition effectively bundles the two paid additions and the Digital Deluxe content without increasing the stated price over standard. The arithmetic changes if a physical standard copy is discounted. For example, a standard copy bought for $49.99 plus the $14.99 upgrade would total $64.98 before tax, less than the $69.99 Complete Edition price. A $59.99 standard copy plus upgrade would total $74.98, making Complete cheaper at the cited prices. Your actual result depends on the sale price, tax and regional upgrade cost.
There is no need to buy Complete again when you already own standard. The $14.99 upgrade is specifically the comparison for existing owners; purchasing a second full license would duplicate the base game entitlement.

Choose Complete Edition. At the cited U.S. price, it includes everything in standard plus Echoes of Sekigahara, Most Wanted, the Digital Deluxe items and Charm of Hokkyokusei. There is no stated price advantage to choosing standard at launch, so standard would mean giving up content rather than saving money.

New player who finds a substantially cheaper standard copy
Choose standard when the discount is large enough to matter and you are comfortable treating the Complete content as optional. You still receive the campaign, Legends and every free patch feature. You can decide later whether the new narrative expansion, survival mode and bonuses justify the $14.99 upgrade price available to existing owners.
For instance, a $40 standard disc leaves a large price gap even after a $14.99 upgrade, while a $65 standard copy leaves almost no reason to skip Complete at $69.99. Keep the edition and platform details from the listing: a discounted standard physical copy does not automatically include Complete bonuses.
Existing standard-edition owner
Compare the $14.99 Complete Edition Upgrade with your interest in the two paid additions. The upgrade is the direct way to add Echoes of Sekigahara, Most Wanted, the Digital Deluxe in-game content and Charm of Hokkyokusei. You do not need to buy the full game again.
Do not buy the upgrade merely to obtain the October patch features. Beauty of Yōtei, Watanabe Mode tracks, armor-appearance/stat separation and the high-contrast option are free for all owners. The upgrade’s value comes from the paid additions and included bonuses.
Player who only wants the original campaign and Legends
Choose standard, particularly if it is discounted. Complete Edition’s extra cost is justified by content you intend to use; if a new story and a single-player survival mode do not interest you, the base package already supplies the campaign and Legends.
Collector or physical-media buyer
Sony’s standard announcement confirms retail availability. The cited Complete Edition listing is a digital PlayStation Store page, so physical Complete Edition availability is not established here and can vary by territory. Check the exact product label, included codes and region before purchasing a disc marketed as “Complete.” A physical standard disc may still be upgradeable, but the $14.99 upgrade requires the appropriate account, platform and edition entitlement.

Buying Complete Edition as a new player
- Confirm that the listing is Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition, not the standard edition or a Digital Deluxe listing.
- Check the price and currency shown for your PlayStation account region; $69.99 is the cited U.S. figure.
- Install the game and patch v2.0 when it becomes available in your territory.
- Sign in with a PlayStation account and maintain an internet connection so the Complete-only additions can download.
- Use PlayStation Plus if you plan to play Legends online; Complete Edition does not include a Plus subscription.
Upgrading an existing standard copy
- Use the PlayStation Store listing for the Complete Edition Upgrade associated with your owned standard edition.
- Verify that the displayed price is the one for your region; Sony’s cited U.S. price is $14.99.
- Install patch v2.0 and sign in with the account that owns the standard game and upgrade entitlement.
- Download the newly entitled Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted content when prompted or when it appears in the game’s content list.
If the upgrade is not recognized, first check that the disc or digital license and the Store account are from the same region. Also verify that you purchased the upgrade for the same platform and that patch v2.0 is installed. The available information does not provide a platform-specific troubleshooting sequence, so avoid assuming that reinstalling the base game will solve a licensing mismatch.
Important buying checks
- Edition name: “Complete Edition” is the package that includes Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted. A standard or Digital Deluxe label is not equivalent.
- Price basis: $69.99 is the cited U.S. price for Complete Edition and the standard launch MSRP, not a promise that every retailer or region will charge that amount.
- Ownership status: Existing standard owners should compare the $14.99 upgrade, not purchase the full game again.
- Patch versus entitlement: Free version 2.0 features are available to all owners; installing the patch alone does not grant the paid additions.
- Internet and account: Downloading the Complete-only content requires an internet connection and PlayStation account.
- Legends: Up to four-player online sessions require PlayStation Plus.
- Physical stock: Standard retail availability is confirmed; Complete physical availability depends on territory and should be verified locally.
- Pre-order language: A standard listing’s mask and seven PSN avatars were tied to pre-order redemption requirements and may not be active on later purchases.
- Regional pricing: The announced £69.99, €79.99 and ¥8,980 figures apply to standard launch MSRP; check your local Store for Complete and upgrade prices.
Bottom line: is Complete Edition worth it?
For a new U.S. buyer paying about $69.99, yes: Complete Edition is the clear value because it costs the same as the announced standard launch MSRP while adding the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion, Most Wanted, Digital Deluxe items and Charm of Hokkyokusei. Standard remains the right choice when a retail discount makes it meaningfully cheaper or when you only want the original campaign and Legends. Existing owners should spend $14.99 only if the new story, roguelike-style survival mode and bonus items are worth that price; every listed October 2026 quality-of-life and accessibility feature arrives free either way.
Best Value
