What the sales and chart figures show
These figures measure different things at different times, so they should not be combined into a single worldwide chart position.

The August 2026 lists are monthly, regional PlayStation Store rankings, not all-channel sales charts. Sony says the lists count store purchases and exclude upgrades and games bundled with hardware. A game’s position in one region cannot establish its position worldwide.
Did boycott calls change sales momentum?
The available numbers show that Ghost of Yōtei had a strong measured result in the United States in September 2025 and reached 3.3 million estimated worldwide sell-through units by November 2. Push Square reported that boycott calls were present online alongside the fourth-place US ranking. That ranking shows how the game performed in that market and month, but it cannot reveal what sales would have been without the calls.

There is no counterfactual in these figures: they do not isolate the effect of boycott activity from other factors that influence game sales. It is therefore fair to say the game sold strongly during the period covered; the evidence does not prove that the boycott had no effect or that it failed everywhere.

“Worldwide” blurs distinct measures. Sony’s 3.3 million figure is cumulative global sell-through as of a stated date, not a ranking. The fourth-place result is a September 2025 US physical-and-digital sales position. The August 2026 PlayStation Store lists rank downloads by region, with the game appearing in Asia’s top 20 but not in the displayed US/Canada or EU top 20.
