Ghost of Yōtei is an open-world PS5 adventure in which you choose which member of the Yōtei Six to pursue first. This guide explains how to orient yourself, what the official sources establish about the story and structure, and where the available evidence stops: it does not provide verified mission routes, puzzle solutions, or tested combat builds.

What kind of walkthrough is this?

This is a spoiler-light orientation guide, not a mission-by-mission solution. Sony’s official materials confirm the central story, player-directed target order, and several activity types, but do not publish a complete route through missions or detailed puzzle and boss instructions. Use the in-game objectives and clues for those specifics rather than relying on an unverified sequence.

Where should you start in Ghost of Yōtei?

Start by following the opening story and the objectives the game gives Atsu. Once the open world lets you choose your direction, select a Yōtei Six target based on the activity you want to pursue—not because there is a confirmed “best” first target. Sucker Punch says players can decide which member of the group to hunt first, but does not identify a recommended order or claim that one order is easier.

Use the target hunt as your main thread

Atsu is searching for the people who killed her family. The Yōtei Six are the central targets of that pursuit. Keep the hunt as your main narrative thread, then branch into other activities when you want to explore or develop Atsu.

Ghost of Yōtei PS5
  • Stunning graphics and gameplay, explore the wild and striking lands around Mount Yotei on foot or horseback. Travel picturesque parts of northern Japan through grasslands, snowy ridges, fields of wildflowers, and more.
  • Discover renegade combat, engage in lawless katana combat and battles with adversaires. Train with various sensei as you find and learn to use each new weapon.
  • An unconventional story and journey, take in the cultural beauty of Japan, bathe in an onsen, visit shrines to pray, try Sumi-e painting, and so much more.
  • Choose your weapon, battle Atsu's opponents as you see fit, with levelled-up dual katanas, odachi, kusarigama and other new weapons.

Take optional work as it suits your play

Other dangerous targets offer bounty opportunities, and weapon sensei can teach skills. These are supported activities, not a prescribed progression tree: the available official guidance does not establish which bounty, sensei, weapon, or skill should come first.

Use campfires to pause in the open world

Sucker Punch says Atsu can build a campfire anywhere in the open world to rest. Treat it as a flexible pause point while exploring, rather than assuming it marks a mission route or a required checkpoint.

Ghost of Yotei (PS5)
  • Discover a bold, new story of a warrior in Japan who is on her own mission of vengeance.
  • Set 300 years after the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei is a standalone experience set in 1600s rural Japan. The story follows a haunted, lone mercenary named Atsu. Thirsty for revenge, she travels through the beautiful, rugged landscapes of northern Japan, hunting those who killed her family many years earlier.
  • Sixteen years after her family’s death, Atsu’s quest across Ezo brings her to unexplored lands in search of a gang of six outlaws, but she finds much more than vengeance. Throughout her journey, Atsu will discover unlikely allies, and greater bonds than she could have imagined.

Is Ghost of Yōtei a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima?

It is set in the same broad historical world, but it is not a direct story sequel. Ghost of Yōtei takes place in 1600s rural Japan, about 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima, and follows a new protagonist, Atsu. Jin Sakai does not feature. Sony describes Atsu as a lone mercenary pursuing the people who killed her family; the official Complete Edition listing frames the journey as one involving allies, bonds, healing, and redemption.

How long is Ghost of Yōtei?

Sucker Punch does not give an official number of hours for completing the game. Its FAQ says the length depends on the player and on how much of the world they explore, so a single completion-time figure would be an estimate rather than an official promise. Optional bounty targets and weapon sensei are among the activities that can add exploration beyond the central hunt.

What platform and edition do you need?

Ghost of Yōtei is a PS5 game, not a PS4 release, and the official FAQ says it supports PS5 Pro. The US PlayStation Store listing reviewed for this guide identifies the Complete Edition as a PS5 product released August 12, 2026. Edition availability, content, and prices can differ by region and change over time; check your local PlayStation Store or retailer before buying.

Current US Complete Edition listing

The US Store’s Complete Edition listing includes the base game, the Echoes of Sekigahara story expansion, the Most Wanted combat survival mode, and listed digital bonuses. The listing also describes Ghost of Yōtei Legends as a cooperative mode with Survival, Story, and Incursion modes. It requires a PlayStation account and internet access, and online multiplayer requires PlayStation Plus. The Store lists a Complete Edition Upgrade add-on at $14.99 in the US; that is a region-specific storefront price, not a universal price.

Sony’s US launch announcement gave historical MSRPs of $69.99, $79.99, and $249.99 respectively. Those are launch prices from 2025, not current prices. The Standard Edition was available at retail; confirm the current edition, format, price, and stock with the seller.

What the official sources do—and do not—establish

The verified guide-level structure is player choice among the Yōtei Six, optional bounty targets, weapon sensei, and open-world campfires. Those facts help you decide how to approach the adventure, but they do not establish a mission-by-mission order, the ideal first target, solutions to individual puzzles, boss tactics, collectible locations, or an optimal build. The game’s official FAQ gives the pronunciation of Yōtei as “Yo-tay.”
