Cosmetic outfits and masks are not necessarily separate armor sets with their own stats.
All 12 base-game armor sets and how to get them
PowerPyx’s October 2025 guide documents these 12 base-game armor locations and says their passive effects can be improved by upgrading the armor. It also notes that the sets remain collectible in free roam after the story. Three are story rewards; the others come from optional tales, a bounty, an encounter with Taro, or the Hot Springs route.

Quest names and regional routes above follow PowerPyx’s October 2025 locations guide; the gameplay descriptions draw on its armor guide and GameSpot’s armor coverage. The sources distinguish chest armor, which carries stats and perks, from most helmets and masks, which are cosmetic.
Which armor should you use?
Pick a set for the effect you want rather than assuming a more recently found set is universally stronger. The base-game armor bonuses are aimed at different approaches: close combat and parry timing, ranged or thrown-weapon damage, stealth and assassination, or exploration. Upgrades improve a set’s passive effects, so a familiar build can remain useful as you progress.

- For exploration: Robes for Sitturaynu has exploration utility, while Fundoshi’s silent running and sprinting come with the loss of warmth.
Additional armor from New Game+ and post-launch content
The base-game total is not a current all-content count. New Game+ and later content added more armor, while some updates also introduced appearances that should not be counted as separate stat-bearing sets.
New Game+ armor
New Game+ arrived in the November 2025 update with Ghost Flowers, a vendor, more than 30 new cosmetics, and an additional upgrade tier for existing armor, according to TechRadar’s report on Sucker Punch Productions’ update. The “more than 30” figure refers to cosmetics, not armor sets. KeenGamer’s October 2026 guide documents these New Game+ routes:

Echoes of Sekigahara armor
PlayStation’s September 3, 2026 announcement says the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion adds armor sets and cosmetics in Ashoro Foothills. KeenGamer’s October 5 guide gives routes for two stat-bearing sets:
- Wolf’s Chosen Armour: Complete “The Wolf’s Chosen” Mythic Tale in Ashoro Foothills. Follow the Makami altars and defeat Heartless Tatari.
- Armour of the Western Army: Complete the “A Buried Promise” Revenge quest in Howling Waters, Ashoro Foothills.
Most Wanted armor and cosmetic appearances
KeenGamer’s October 5, 2026 guide says the Sakai Armor is unlocked by progressing through Most Wanted and unlocking Jin Sakai. Complete Edition pre-orders placed before September 30, 2026 received an early unlock; that offer has passed. The guide also describes the Takezo-themed set as Robes of the Unrivaled, obtained after Takezo’s challenge chain and purchased from Masujiro in New Game+.

Most Wanted also has appearances based on The Last of Us Clicker, Helldivers, Journey Traveler, Astro Bot, and Yōtei Six. These are cosmetic looks unlocked through Most Wanted progression and purchased with Boss Tokens, not separate stat builds, according to KeenGamer. PlayStation’s September 3 announcement says Most Wanted cosmetics carry into the main game.
Use one look with another set’s stats
PlayStation’s September 3, 2026 announcement says a new option lets players keep one armor set’s appearance while using another set’s stats. This helps separate the visual outfit you want from the perks you need. The announcement does not enumerate every set, cosmetic, dye, mask, or unlock condition, so the documented routes above should not be read as a complete catalog of every current appearance.

Update timing and availability
PlayStation announced patch v2.0 for October 1, 2026 globally and October 2 in some territories, including Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Routes and appearance availability can change with updates, and an official full item-by-item catalog is not established in the cited coverage.
