GeekerMag published a list titled “15 Best Girls Games to Play Online in 2022,” but the games on that list could not be confirmed for this guide, so none are named here. A 2022 roundup is also a poor guide to 2026: online games shut down, move to new platforms, change their pricing, or quietly drop support. The practical way to pick a game today is to check what it is, whether it still runs, and what it asks of the player, then decide.
What the 2022 list does and does not tell you
The original article is the only source for its 15 picks, and its contents could not be verified here. Treat any game it named as a starting point, not a recommendation. Before you spend time on one, confirm three things on the game’s current official store page or website: that it is still available, that its servers are still running, and that its last update is recent enough for the platform you use.
Check whether a game still runs online
Older online games are the most likely to be broken, so check these first.
- Store listing status. Look for a “last updated” date on the store page. If the most recent update is several years old, expect fewer fixes and possibly outdated compatibility with current operating systems or browsers.
- Official announcements. Search the developer’s website or social accounts for “end of service,” “shutdown,” or “server maintenance.” An end-of-service notice usually gives a date.
- Browser games. Confirm the game still loads in a current version of your browser. Plug-in-based games were phased out years ago and will not run without a workaround, which is not safe to install on a shared family computer.
- Mobile games. Check that the game is still listed in your device’s app store and that it supports your phone’s current operating system version.
Access models and what they cost in practice
“Free” does not always mean free to play in full. The access model decides how much you will pay and how often you will be asked to pay.

Check the account and social features
Many online games require an account, and some include chat or friend lists. For younger players, these features matter more than the gameplay itself.

- Find out whether the game requires an account, and if so, whether it can be created with a parent-managed email address or through a family account.
- Check whether text, voice, or friend requests are available. If they are, look for settings that limit who can contact the player, or that turn chat off entirely.
- On consoles, use the built-in family controls: Xbox Family Settings, the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app, or PlayStation Family Management. These can limit online communication, spending, and playtime, though exact options vary by platform and region.
- Confirm the game’s age rating on the ESRB or PEGI site, depending on your region, and read the content descriptors rather than relying on the rating alone.
A quick decision checklist
- The store page or official site shows an update within the last year, or the developer has confirmed servers are running.
- The access model fits your budget, and you know whether purchases are needed to progress.
- Chat and friend features are either absent or can be restricted from a parental account.
- The age rating and content notes match the player’s age.
- The game runs on the device you actually own, not just on the one it was tested on in an old article.
