Preordering God of War Laufey does not mean you can use every bonus item as soon as the game begins. PlayStation says the preorder items unlock through story progression, but its current official listings do not identify the chapter or moment when each becomes available.
What the preorder bonus includes—and when it unlocks
PlayStation lists three preorder rewards for any edition: the Last Wish Armor Set, Phranque’s Golden Leaves Appearance, and an in-game resource pack. The official notice adds the condition: “Unlock in-game items via story progression.” PlayStation’s September 28, 2026 announcement and the official US game page do not say exactly when each reward becomes usable.

That is a distinction between qualifying for the bonus and reaching the point in the game where its contents unlock. The published restriction is not described as a requirement to buy a particular edition or preorder by a separate cutoff; the official page says the bonus applies to any edition.
Physical Standard Edition buyers
For the physical Standard Edition, the official announcement says the bonus is delivered by download code. Redeeming it requires an internet connection and a PlayStation account. The code grants the digital bonus; it does not make the items available before the game’s story unlocks them.

Why a story gate may be a good thing
A progression gate can give the game room to introduce its equipment and resource systems before bonus gear or resources become available. That could help preserve the opening’s intended pace and progression curve. This is a reasonable interpretation of the restriction, not a stated explanation from Santa Monica Studio: the official materials do not give the developers’ rationale or say that the preorder rewards would otherwise disrupt balance.
The announcement describes Faye’s Serpent Bow as having full-aim and half-aim modes, multiple arrow types, and customizable Serpent Scales. Those details show that some equipment choices can involve both appearance and playstyle, but the source does not specify that the preorder armor or resource pack changes combat balance.

PlayStation currently lists God of War Laufey for PS5, with a scheduled release date of February 16, 2027. Release dates and store listings can change, so check the official page for the latest status.
