God of War Ragnarök released for Windows on September 19, 2024. It is available through both Steam and the Epic Games Store. The PC version was developed by Santa Monica Studio with Jetpack Interactive and published by PlayStation Publishing LLC.

What comes with the PC version?
Both the standard and Digital Deluxe editions include the complete main game and God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla at no additional cost. Neither edition requires a separate Valhalla purchase. If Valhalla is the only extra playable content you want, the standard edition is sufficient.
Standard Edition
The standard edition includes the full game and Valhalla. It is the straightforward choice for players who want the campaign and the included post-story mode without additional digital cosmetics.

For the cleanest troubleshooting process, first establish a stable baseline with current graphics drivers and sensible in-game settings. Then test upscaling and frame generation individually rather than assuming that enabling every performance option will improve the experience.
DualSense support has an important limitation
The PC version supports DualSense features, but full haptic feedback and adaptive triggers require a wired connection. A wireless connection may still work as a controller connection, but do not buy or configure a DualSense expecting the complete feature set over Bluetooth.
If that distinction matters to you, a DualSense wireless controller is the most relevant accessory upgrade—but plan to connect it by USB while playing.
Accessibility and gameplay options introduced on PC
Two options debuted with the PC version:
- Reduced puzzle hints: lowers how frequently companions provide puzzle hints, which is useful if you prefer to solve environmental puzzles without as much prompting.
- Cinematic audio description: narrates visual events during cinematics for players with low vision.
These are distinct from general difficulty settings: reduced puzzle hints changes companion prompting, while cinematic audio description adds narration to visual moments in cinematics.

The official minimum target is 1080p at 30 frames per second on Low settings. The recommended target is 1080p at 60 frames per second on Medium settings. The minimum specification should not be interpreted as a 60-fps target.

The official requirements specify Windows 10 20H1-era compatibility or later and DirectX 12. The game also needs 190 GB of SSD space, so check free space before beginning the download rather than relying on the drive having room for a typical game installation.
PlayStation’s fuller performance table includes higher-resolution targets such as 1440p/60 and 4K/60. Its higher settings span roughly the RTX 3070/RX 6800 class through the RTX 4070 Ti/RX 7900 XT class for Ultra-oriented targets. These are target categories, not guarantees. Two PCs with the same nominal GPU can perform differently because of the CPU, drivers, cooling, power limits, background software, and chosen upscaling settings.

Do you need a new gaming PC?
- If your system is around the minimum tier, plan for 1080p, Low settings, and a 30-fps target.
- If it matches the recommended tier, 1080p/60 at Medium is the official goal.
- If you want 1440p or 4K at 60 fps, look beyond the recommended specification and compare your complete system—not just the graphics card—with the higher-resolution targets.
- If you are below the minimum GPU, CPU, RAM, or operating-system requirements, do not assume DLSS, FSR, XeSS, or frame generation will make the game perform acceptably. Those features require compatible hardware and cannot replace the base requirements.
Storage: plan for the 190 GB installation
The listed requirement is 190 GB on an SSD. Leave additional free space for Windows, updates, shader or temporary files, and other installed games. A nearly full drive can also make general PC maintenance more difficult.

If you need more room, a 2TB SSD for gaming PC can be a practical category to investigate, but the correct choice depends on your computer. Confirm whether your system accepts a 2.5-inch SATA drive, an M.2 SATA drive, or an M.2 NVMe drive, and check motherboard slots, laptop serviceability, mounting hardware, and any manufacturer capacity limits before buying. An external drive may be useful for storage, but the game’s official requirement is specifically an SSD installation target, so do not assume every external setup will provide the same experience.
Is a PlayStation Network account required?
According to Santa Monica Studio’s later PC support guidance, PlayStation Network sign-in is optional on PC. The original launch announcement said a PSN account was required, but the support clarification published January 30, 2025 is the more current guidance and should take precedence for buyers checking the present requirements.
Signing in provides the following in-game bonuses:
- The Armor of the Black Bear set at the first Lost Items chest in the Realm Between Realms
- 500 Hacksilver
- 250 XP
Players who do not sign in can still obtain the armor during a New Game+ run as before. In practical terms, PSN sign-in is optional if you do not want the listed account-linked rewards.

Both Steam and the Epic Games Store list Windows versions of God of War Ragnarök, including the standard and Digital Deluxe editions and the same broad PC feature set. The core purchase decision is therefore usually about which launcher you prefer, where you keep your PC library, and which storefront account you already use.

Useful PC accessories—and what is actually optional
DualSense wireless controller
A DualSense is worthwhile for players who want a console-style controller and the PC port’s full haptics and adaptive triggers. Connect it by USB for those features. You do not need a DualSense to play: keyboard and mouse, DualShock 4, and other compatible gamepads are supported.

Gaming headset for spatial audio
The game supports spatial 3D audio with compatible audio equipment. A gaming headset for spatial audio can make directional effects easier to hear, but the official feature listing does not establish that any particular headset model has been tested or is required. Choose based on whether your PC supports the headset’s USB, analog, or other connection, and check how it handles Windows spatial-audio settings.

Support for 21:9 and 32:9 displays is useful if you already own a panoramic monitor or specifically want a wider presentation. An ultrawide gaming monitor is not necessary for the game, and buying one solely for Ragnarök is a major display investment. Check the monitor’s native resolution, refresh rate, HDR implementation, and the GPU performance needed to drive it before treating ultrawide support as a reason to upgrade.
Streaming the PC version
Santa Monica Studio’s PC launch material included streamer alerts for new followers, subscribers, donations, and gifted subscriptions. That provides a legitimate streaming angle for creators preparing coverage of the game.
If you plan to broadcast, prioritize a stable frame-time target over simply enabling the highest graphics preset. Capture software, browser sources, alerts, microphone processing, and the game will share CPU, GPU, memory, and storage resources. A streaming setup for PC games should therefore be planned around the actual game target you can sustain, rather than the maximum frame rate your system reaches when nothing else is running.
The availability and terms of third-party streaming services or monetized alert tools can change, so verify the current service, software compatibility, and account requirements before committing to one.

Do not assume that every historical launch issue has disappeared, but do not diagnose an old issue from launch coverage alone either. Start with this order:
- Update the game. Install the latest patch available through your storefront.
- Update your graphics driver. Use the current driver appropriate for your NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel GPU.
- Verify the installation. Steam and Epic both provide file-verification tools; use the launcher’s current verification option if you suspect corrupted files.
- Test input separately. If a controller fails during a quick-time event, try a wired connection, review Steam Input or launcher controller handling, and test another supported controller if available.
- Separate display problems from performance problems. For HDR or ultrawide issues, check Windows display settings and the monitor’s input mode before lowering graphics settings.
- Change one performance option at a time. Compare native resolution, upscaling, and frame generation independently so you can identify which setting changes the behavior.
- Use the official support hub for persistent faults. It is more reliable than assuming a general-purpose PC utility will correct a game-specific bug.
Patch 7, released November 15, 2024, added corrupted-file detection, fixes for window-position persistence, mouse-camera behavior, ultrawide fog, SteamInput, and Intel Arc performance. Patch 6 improved performance on AMD Zen 1 and Zen 2 processors in CPU-limited areas, fixed crashes, addressed mouse lock-on behavior, and corrected some frame-generation presentation issues. Patch 9 was the March 20, 2025 20th Anniversary update that added Dark Odyssey content.
