God of War Ragnarök’s version 06.02 20th Anniversary Update added the Dark Odyssey collection: a black-and-gold Kratos look, armor, weapon attachments and a shield rönd. It is available at no additional cost to game owners. The update launched on March 20, 2025, and is already available.
What the 20th Anniversary Update adds
The update’s centerpiece is the Dark Odyssey collection, which brings a black-and-gold appearance to Kratos alongside matching armor, weapon attachments and a shield rönd. Santa Monica Studio’s version 06.02 patch notes also say players can use Edit Appearance for the new weapon and shield components, letting them choose their look separately from their build functionality.
How to get the Dark Odyssey collection
The collection is included for owners of God of War Ragnarök; it is not a separate paid add-on. In the main game, open any Lost Items chest to receive it. In God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla, it is granted automatically, according to the official game page.
Why this is called a classic Kratos look
“Classic” here refers to Dark Odyssey’s black-and-gold theme, not a recreation of Kratos’s original appearance in every detail. Santa Monica Studio says the look draws on the working name of God of War (2005) and a skin that first appeared in God of War II as a reward for completing the game on God Mode difficulty. In the studio’s words, the theme was brought back “for the anniversary,” as described in the patch notes.
#1 Best Overall
- Incredibly detailed 7” scale figure based on PlayStation God of War video game
- Designed with Ultra Articulation with up to 22 moving parts for full range of posing
- Includes extra hands, leviathan axe, byfrost and base
- Included collectible art card with character art on the front, and character biography on the back
- Featured in God of War window packaging
There is a separate anniversary-related credit worth distinguishing: the studio’s retrospective credits Angela with leading the effort to sculpt Classic Kratos for Ragnarök: Valhalla. That credit concerns Classic Kratos and does not identify her as the designer of the Dark Odyssey collection. (Santa Monica Studio’s retrospective.)
Release date, platforms and cost
PlayStation announced the anniversary release on March 14, 2025, and said the update would arrive March 20. The version 06.02 patch notes confirm the anniversary update.
