Santa Monica Studio released the Dark Odyssey Collection as free in-game cosmetics for people who owned the game on PlayStation or PC. The update arrived on March 20, 2025, ahead of the franchise’s 20th anniversary on March 22.
What was free—and when did it arrive?
The free offer was a cosmetics collection included in a game update, not a free copy of God of War Ragnarök. Santa Monica Studio announced it on March 14, 2025, and scheduled the update for March 20. The studio described the collection as a gift to everyone who owned the game, at no additional cost. The anniversary it marked was March 22, 2025. PlayStation.Blog’s announcement and the studio’s version 06.02 patch notes confirm the update and its availability at no additional cost.

What does the Dark Odyssey Collection include?
The collection adds a black-and-gold appearance across several characters and weapons:
- A Dark Odyssey appearance and armor set for Kratos.
- A Dark Odyssey Vestment for Atreus.
- A Dark Odyssey Witch Frock for Freya.
- Weapon appearances and attachments.
The look draws on the original God of War’s working name, “Dark Odyssey,” and a skin awarded in God of War II for completing the game on God Mode difficulty, according to Santa Monica Studio’s anniversary announcement.

How to access the items
In the base game, look for a Lost Items chest to collect the cosmetics. If you are playing God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla, the items are provided automatically. The collection was part of the update for owners on PlayStation and PC; it was not described as a separate paid add-on. The official PlayStation game page also identifies the collection as available at no additional cost for owners.

Yes. The free collection is an in-game update for people who own God of War Ragnarök, not a standalone game or a way to claim the base game for free. If you already own the game, the announcement did not require a separate purchase for the collection. Current regional prices and availability are not established here, so check the relevant PlayStation or PC storefront for present-day purchase details.
