Godrick’s Great Rune does not grant its bonus just because you defeat Godrick or carry the item. Restore it at the Divine Tower of Limgrave, equip it at a Site of Grace, then consume a Rune Arc. While active, it raises every attribute by five; the effect ends when you die.
What Godrick’s Great Rune does
When active, Godrick’s Great Rune adds five points to every attribute. That broad boost can help a character who benefits from several attributes or is close to an attribute requirement. It is not a guaranteed damage or survival increase for every build; the practical result depends on which attributes matter to your character.
Bandai Namco’s official Elden Ring site describes the Great Runes as shards claimed by Marika’s demigod offspring, whose new strength led to the Shattering. That is the lore behind the item; it does not describe how to activate its gameplay effect.
How to restore Godrick’s Great Rune
- Defeat Godrick the Grafted. His defeat yields Godrick’s Great Rune, but does not activate its bonus.
- Reach the Divine Tower of Limgrave. From Stormveil Castle, take the route east across the long bridge and continue along the tower path to its activation point.
- Restore the rune at the tower. Follow the path to the activation point and interact with it to restore Godrick’s Great Rune.
How to equip and activate it
- Rest at a Site of Grace. Open the Great Runes menu and equip Godrick’s Great Rune. Resting at a Grace alone does not equip or activate it.
- Use a Rune Arc. Consume one after equipping the rune to activate its effect. The +5 to all attributes applies while the effect is active.
If you can see Godrick’s Great Rune in your inventory but do not have its bonus, check the steps in order: it must be restored at the Divine Tower, equipped from the Great Runes menu at a Site of Grace, and activated with a Rune Arc.
