The right lineup depends on heroes’ actual skills, synergies, races, formation, and the fight, not a fixed class ratio.
What each hero role does
The publisher describes Gods & Demons as a turn-based team-building game in which hero stats, skills, synergies, race composition, and formations all matter. The role label is a starting point for understanding a hero, not a complete description of what that hero contributes.
Tank: absorb or reduce incoming harm
A Tank’s main job is to help the rest of the team survive by absorbing, redirecting, or mitigating enemy pressure. A secondary beginner guide describes Tanks as high-defense heroes who protect the front row; treat that positioning as the guide’s advice, not a universal official rule. Individual kits determine how protection works. Pocket Gamer, for example, describes King Grox as a durable Tank with taunt, but that is the outlet’s assessment rather than an official balance claim.
Attacker and Mage: deal damage in different ways
“Damage dealer” groups the two damage-oriented classes for convenience; it is not a fifth class in the game. The secondary beginner guide characterizes Assault as focused on single-target or area damage, while Magic deals rear-row area damage and may apply debuffs. Those are the guide’s descriptions, and the available official announcement does not establish them as universal class rules. Check the specific hero’s skill text to see who is hit and what additional effects apply.

Mages can also support allies. In a February 2025 update announcement, Com2uS presented Elena as a Demon Mage whose kit deals area magic damage while granting allies damage mitigation and ATK and HP buffs. She illustrates why a class badge should not be mistaken for a hero’s only job.
Support: sustain and improve allies
Support heroes can help the team through healing, buffs, cleansing, or resistance to crowd control when their particular kits provide those effects. Their contribution may be indirect: a heal can keep a key attacker active, while a buff or cleanse can help the team maintain its plan. Pocket Gamer describes Ostara as a healer with mitigation and ATK/Crit buffs, and Liana as a Support with heals, buffs, crowd-control resistance, and debuff dispel. These are that outlet’s hero descriptions, not controlled performance results.

How to choose heroes for your team
The launch announcement says players begin by selecting six heroes for an initial deck and can improve heroes by leveling, evolving, and equipping them. It does not prescribe a required number of Tanks, damage dealers, or Support heroes. Use the current problem in a fight to guide your choices instead of forcing a formula.
- Identify what is failing. If the team is being overwhelmed, look for protection or sustain. If enemies remain standing too long, consider more damage or a way to weaken them. If effects are disrupting your team, look for relevant buffs, cleansing, or control resistance in available kits.
- Read the skills, not just the class badge. Check targets, damage pattern, and secondary effects. A Mage may also protect allies, and a Support hero’s value depends on the effects its skills actually provide.
- Check team fit. Compare the heroes’ abilities, stats, race composition, and formation options. Com2uS’s launch announcement names five races—Human, Orc, Spirit, God, and Demon—and says race-based team composition can activate buffs.
- Adapt to the mode and opposing team. A lineup that handles one opponent may not solve a different threat. Reassess which part of the team needs protection, damage, or utility when the matchup changes.
What the role labels can—and cannot—tell you
The labels are useful shorthand for a hero’s main contribution, but they do not establish a universally best lineup or a reliable class-only rule for winning. The publisher’s description emphasizes combinations of stats, abilities, synergies, races, and formations. No independent role-performance study or win-rate comparison is established here, so there is no evidence-based optimal class ratio to recommend.

Hero rankings also need a date and availability context. Pocket Gamer’s tier-list page says it was updated October 5, 2026 for version 3.0.10, and reports that the game had been removed from the App Store and Play Store and that it would no longer update the list. That is the outlet’s report; it does not independently establish store status in every region or the live game version. Treat its rankings and hero examples as time-sensitive rather than timeless advice.
