If GOG Galaxy reports that a game’s local data is corrupted, use Galaxy’s built-in repair workflow first: open the game, select the customization or More control beside Play, then choose Manage installation → Verify / Repair. Galaxy compares your installation with the files on GOG’s servers and redownloads any files that do not match.
What a corrupted-data message means
Galaxy’s message usually means that one or more files in the installed game differ from the version Galaxy expects. The cause can be a failed update, an interrupted write to disk, damaged data, or another installation mismatch. The practical result may be a game that will not launch, crashes during play, displays glitched graphics, or behaves incorrectly. GOG’s support guidance for Cyberpunk 2077, for example, lists crashes, graphical glitches, immortal enemies and an inability to launch among the possible effects of corrupted files.

File corruption is different from a damaged save or a general Galaxy-client failure. Verify / Repair checks the game installation; it does not prove that every problem is caused by those files. That distinction matters when several games are affected, when Galaxy itself cannot operate normally, or when the same symptom remains after a successful repair.

This is a troubleshooting order, not a claim that every symptom has the same cause. The narrower the problem is—one title after an update, for example—the more useful a game-level verification is. A failure that spans multiple games deserves attention to Galaxy, antivirus or firewall software, and support logs.

How to run Verify / Repair in GOG Galaxy
- Open GOG Galaxy. Wait for the client to finish loading before changing installation settings.
- Select the affected game in your library.
- Open the customization or More control beside Play. The control is attached to the game’s main action area.
- Choose Manage installation → Verify / Repair. Start the operation and leave Galaxy open while it checks the installation.
- Let the comparison finish. Galaxy compares the local files with the files hosted on GOG’s servers. If it finds discrepancies, it downloads replacement data and repairs the installation.
GOG describes the outcome this way: "If there are any discrepancies GOG GALAXY will redownload, and repair corrupted files." The process can therefore use additional download bandwidth and disk space while replacement files are received. Do not treat the initial discovery of mismatches as a final failure; the repair phase is the part that restores the files.
What Verify / Repair can and cannot fix
It can restore mismatched installation files
The check is designed for a local installation that no longer matches the server copy. A successful repair is strongest evidence that the files Galaxy could compare have been brought back into alignment. This is the appropriate response to a launch failure, crash, graphics glitch or other behavior that started after files were changed.
It may not resolve a non-file problem
If the same error remains after Galaxy completes Verify / Repair, the cause may be outside the compared game files: a blocked Galaxy process, a broader client problem, a save-state issue, or another fault that the verification step does not diagnose. At that point, reproduce the problem and provide Galaxy’s logs to GOG support rather than repeatedly running the same check.
Repair time depends on the damage
CD PROJEKT RED support notes that repair time varies with the number of corrupt files. A small mismatch may finish quickly; a larger set of replacements takes longer because Galaxy must download more data. No official general completion time or success percentage is published for this process.

Fixing the E1 corruption error
GOG’s E1 guidance adds a client-access check to the normal repair procedure. Restart Galaxy first, then run Verify / Repair for the affected game. If the error returns, antivirus or firewall software may be preventing Galaxy’s components from reading, writing or communicating normally.
- Close and restart GOG Galaxy.
- Run Manage installation → Verify / Repair on the affected game.
- If E1 persists, review your security software’s trusted or exception lists.
- Add these Galaxy executables when your security software requires explicit permission:
GalaxyClient.exe,GalaxyClientService.exeandGalaxyCommunication.exe. - Restart Galaxy again and retry the operation.
Exception names and controls differ between antivirus and firewall products, so use the entries for trusted applications or allowed processes in your security software. Only add the named Galaxy files when you are troubleshooting this client-access problem; the purpose is to allow Galaxy to perform its verification and communication tasks.
When the downloaded installer itself is corrupt
A corrupted browser-downloaded setup file is a different failure path from corrupted files in an already installed game. GOG recommends installing the latest Galaxy client and downloading the game through Galaxy when setup files obtained in a browser are damaged. In that situation, repeating the same broken installer is unlikely to help because the installer, not the installed game directory, is the object that must be replaced.

Game saves after corruption or a bad patch
Repairing installation files and recovering game progress are related but separate tasks. If the game begins crashing, showing broken graphics or behaving incorrectly after a patch, GOG’s guidance recommends loading a save created before the issue appeared whenever that is possible.
CD PROJEKT RED support explains why this situation can arise: "Occasionally, patching issues can occur when certain game files become corrupt." Verify / Repair addresses the file side of that problem. Choosing an earlier save addresses the point in the game’s state from which you continue. Keep those decisions distinct: first restore the installation, then choose the save that best predates the observed problem if the game still behaves incorrectly.
Troubleshooting by failure type
The game will not launch
For a single title that stopped launching, run Verify / Repair and allow the redownload to finish. Try launching again only after Galaxy reports that the operation is complete. If the launch failure remains, reproduce it once more and escalate with Galaxy logs; a completed comparison that does not change the symptom indicates that repeating the same file check is unlikely to add information.
The game crashes or shows graphical glitches
These are listed symptoms of corrupted files in GOG’s support material. Verify / Repair is the first corrective action. If the problem appeared after a patch and an earlier save is available, use that save after the repair. Record whether the crash or visual fault occurs at launch, in a particular location, or only with one save; that information helps support distinguish installation damage from a game-state problem.

Enemies, objects or other game behavior is abnormal
GOG’s example guidance includes immortal enemies among the effects that corrupted files can produce. Complete the repair before judging whether the behavior is fixed. If the same save remains affected, test the earlier save recommended in the save-handling guidance. Persistent abnormal behavior should be documented and sent with logs.
Galaxy shows E1 or cannot complete the operation
Use the E1 sequence: restart Galaxy, run Verify / Repair, then check the three named Galaxy executables in antivirus and firewall exception lists. Restart after changing those permissions. If Galaxy still cannot complete the check, collect logs for support rather than deleting files at random or repeatedly interrupting the repair.
Installation or update fails before the game is usable
Determine whether the failure concerns a browser-downloaded installer or an installed game. For a corrupt setup file, move to the latest Galaxy client and download through Galaxy. For a game that installed but later reports corruption, use Verify / Repair. This distinction prevents applying an installation-file remedy to a damaged installer download.
More than one game is affected
A problem across several games points away from a single title’s data and toward Galaxy or software that controls its access. Restart Galaxy and check whether antivirus or firewall rules are blocking the client executables. If the scope remains broad, reproduce the issue and send the client logs to GOG support so the client-level failure can be investigated.

Collecting logs for GOG support
When repair, the E1 checks and the installer path do not resolve the issue, reproduce the failure and submit Galaxy client logs to GOG support. The GOG developer FAQ lists these locations:

Include a clear description of what happened, the game affected, the step at which it fails, and whether Verify / Repair completed. If the issue began after an update, note that timing; if only one save is affected, note that as well. Those details connect the log files to a reproducible symptom without confusing a file mismatch with a client or save problem.
Limits and a sensible recovery order
There is no published official statistic showing how often Verify / Repair succeeds, and no universal repair duration. The reliable procedure is therefore outcome-based: run the check, allow any replacement download to finish, test the game, and escalate if the same reproducible fault remains.
