GOG’s FreedomToBuy giveaway was real, but it is no longer active. The promotion ran for roughly 48 hours beginning August 1, 2025, offering 13 adult, violent, and otherwise controversial game entries to claim at no cost. The reported deadline was midnight Eastern Time on August 3, after which GOG extended the offer by several hours because of heavy traffic and access problems. (PC Gamer)
Users who claimed the titles during the window should still check their GOG libraries and download the available DRM-free installers. New users cannot claim the expired promotion.

What GOG offered
The giveaway formed part of FreedomToBuy, a GOG campaign arguing that legal, responsibly made games should remain available to adults and preserved rather than quietly disappearing from digital storefronts.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesGOG described the event as a temporary free-to-own offer. That means users paid nothing during the claim period and received the titles in their GOG accounts. It does not mean the games were permanently free for everyone, or that the promotion can still be claimed today.
#1 Best Overall
- Redeemable at US GameStop, EB Games, Babbage's, Electronic Boutique, EBX, Planet X, and Software Etc. stores. Also redeemable online at and GameStop.com and EBGames.com.
- Over 6,100 stores located throughout the United States.
- GameStop. Power to the Players.
- Redemption: Instore and Online
- No returns and no refunds on gift cards.
The campaign was also broader than the phrase “NSFW games” suggests. Most entries contained sexual or adult-oriented material, while Agony and POSTAL 2 are better known for extreme violence and controversy. The list therefore combined adult visual novels, dating and simulation games, and games associated with other forms of mature content.
The complete list of included titles
An archived GOG community post listed these 13 promotional entries:
- Leap of Love
- Being a DIK – Season 1
- Leap of Faith + Official Walkthrough
- House Party
- HuniePop
- Lust Theory – Season 1
- Treasure of Nadia
- Summer’s Gone – Season 1
- Fetish Locator: Week One
- Helping the Hotties
- Agony + Agony UNRATED
- Sapphire Safari
- POSTAL 2
The list comes from the archived GOG forum announcement. The “13 games” description needs one qualification: Agony + Agony UNRATED was presented as a combined entry containing two editions or versions, while Leap of Faith + Official Walkthrough included a companion walkthrough.

- GAME AD-ONS: Extend the experience of your favorite games with add-ons and in-game currency.
- MOVIES & TV SHOWS: Rent or buy new and popular movies and TV shows from a massive library.
- PERFECT GIFT: Great as a gift for a friend or yourself. Xbox Gift Cards are easy to use, never expire, and give the freedom to pick the gift they want. Enjoy more ways to play without a credit card attached to your Microsoft account.
Season and episode labels also matter. The giveaway did not automatically include later seasons of Being a DIK, Lust Theory, or Summer’s Gone, nor did “Week One” imply that the entire Fetish Locator series was included. Likewise, HuniePop should not be confused with the separate HuniePop 2: Double Date UNRATED product.
What “free to own” meant
Claimed games were added to users’ GOG libraries, and GOG’s distribution model emphasizes DRM-free downloads and offline play. Users who participated could use GOG Galaxy or download offline installers from their account.
For preservation, downloading the installers is more durable than relying only on a storefront library. A sensible backup process is:

- USE FOR GAMES & CONTENT — Redeem for thousands of digital XBOX games, from backward compatible classics to the latest new releases, plus DLC and in‑game currency.

- PRE‑ORDER & PRE‑INSTALL GAMES — Use your balance to pre‑order and pre‑download upcoming titles so you’re ready to play the moment they launch.
- NO FEES OR EXPIRATION — XBOX Gift Cards never expire and have no service fees, so your balance is ready whenever you are.
- Sign in to the GOG account used during the promotion.
- Open the game library and search for the claimed titles.
- Download the available offline installers and relevant bonus files.
- Store copies on a local drive, external SSD, USB drive, or other personal backup.
- Keep the account credentials and any required installation information secure.
DRM-free ownership still has practical limits. An old installer may need compatibility settings, a particular operating system, or additional troubleshooting. Future operating systems are not guaranteed to run every game perfectly, and owning a base game does not necessarily include every DLC item, patch, uncensored edition, or optional add-on.

Why GOG launched the promotion
FreedomToBuy connected the giveaway to three related ideas: creative freedom, digital preservation, and continued access to legal adult games. GOG argued that once a title disappears from a storefront, restoring access can become difficult for players and developers alike.
Rank #4
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
- Redemption: Online
The campaign also reflected a wider dispute over the influence of payment processors on storefront policies. GOG positioned the giveaway as a response to concerns that legal games could be removed or suppressed because of their content, even when the games were sold to adults and complied with applicable rules.
That does not establish that a particular payment network ordered GOG to remove these specific titles. Coverage of the controversy included a denial from Mastercard, which said it had not evaluated individual games or required restrictions on game-creator sites and platforms. The most accurate description is that GOG responded to a broader dispute over payment-processor influence on adult-content policies, not that Mastercard or Visa were proven to have directly banned every game in the bundle. How successful was the giveaway?
GOG said that more than one million people claimed the games within the first 24 hours. That is a company-reported participation figure, not an independently audited sales or user metric.

- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
The volume of traffic also caused platform-stability problems. GOG extended the claim window by several hours and advised users who had encountered errors to try again. The original offer nevertheless ended in August 2025.
Can you still claim the games?
No. The FreedomToBuy giveaway expired after its August 3, 2025 deadline and subsequent extension. The campaign website may still be available as an informational page, but its continued existence should not be mistaken for a live giveaway.
If you claimed one or more titles at the time, search your GOG library and download the installers while they remain available to your account. If you did not claim them during the promotion, do not use unofficial mirrors, key-reseller listings, or “free download” pages claiming to recreate the offer.

GOG’s event was both a short-lived free-game promotion and a statement about digital ownership. The immediate benefit was a no-cost addition to participating users’ libraries. The longer-term argument was that DRM-free installers and local backups give players more control when storefront availability changes.
That argument has boundaries: a GOG account, compatible hardware, working installers, and access to any required updates may still matter. But the promotion made GOG’s preservation position unusually visible by placing a large group of mature-content titles at the center of the debate.
