Gore Magala appears in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak as a blind wyvern associated with the Frenzy Virus. To counter the game’s Frenzy status, keep attacking monsters before the gauge fills; Capcom also identifies Shagaru Magala as Gore Magala’s adult form.
What is Gore Magala?
Capcom introduced Gore Magala as the main threat of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. The blind monster scatters pollen-like scales across the field, using them to heighten its senses and identify prey, as described in Capcom’s June 10, 2014 introduction.
Gore Magala returns in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. Capcom describes it as a six-limbed blind wyvern that scatters a black-and-purple mist associated with its signature Frenzy Virus. It was the flagship monster of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, according to Capcom’s June 13, 2022 Sunbreak recap.
How does Frenzy affect the hunter?
In Sunbreak, an infected hunter sees a gauge that gradually fills. If it reaches its limit, Frenzy removes the hunter’s natural ability to heal and makes attacks deal more damage. This is an in-game status effect, not a real-world biological description. Capcom’s Blights & Ailments manual explains the status and its counterplay.

- Journey to the West - In addition to the plethora of new hunts to complete, the immersive story will task Kamura’s valiant hunters with researching the secrets behind the puzzling anomalies plaguing the distant Kingdom. This pursuit will take players on a journey across the sea to a new base of operations called Elgado Outpost, where they will investigate powerful creatures known as the Three Lords, each inspired by staples of Western horror.

Hunters will also encounter numerous fan-favorite and returning species from previous Monster Hunter games including the voltaic Astalos.
- Combat Evolved - The “Wirebug” mechanic that allows for unparalleled freedom of movement and mobility returns! Hunters using the new facilities at Elgado Outpost will also be able to master all-new combat options and Wirebug techniques for all weapon types. More information on these new abilities will be shared in the future.
- New Locales - Featuring all-new maps with no loading times such as the newly revealed Citadel locale, the continuous gameplay ensures that players will remain on their quests as soon as the hunt begins, without transitions between areas.
- Hunting Options - Play solo, or join up to three other hunters in online co-op play on Nintendo Switch or PC. The Nintendo Switch system also allows for hunting anywhere, anytime and with anyone via a local connection!
Counter the gauge by attacking
Continue attacking monsters before the gauge fills completely. Overcoming Frenzy temporarily boosts affinity and prevents reinfection for a period. The manual does not specify a duration for either effect.
Are Shagaru Magala and Gore Magala related?
Yes. Capcom calls Shagaru Magala “the adult form of Gore Magala” in its June 28, 2022 Sunbreak preview. That establishes the relationship; the cited page does not detail the monster’s full lifecycle or reproductive biology.

What is special about Chaotic Gore Magala weapons?
Weapons made with Chaotic Gore Magala materials have both positive and negative affinity values. When the hunter overcomes Frenzy, the negative affinity changes to positive, increasing the chance of a critical hit, according to Capcom’s Weapons & Armor manual. This behavior is specific to weapons made with Chaotic Gore Magala materials; it should not be assumed to apply to all Gore Magala equipment.

The official sources cited above do not provide Gore Magala’s exact quest unlock conditions in Sunbreak, hit zones, weaknesses, or material drop rates. Capcom’s September 24, 2021 expansion announcement described Sunbreak as a premium expansion planned for Nintendo Switch and PC, but it does not establish current storefront availability.
